Chapter 1144: Chapter 598: Extra: The Letter She Left Him 1

"Hmm."

Claud Laurence supported Alice Robinson to the door of Chester Robinson’s hospital room.

Everyone in the room seemed to have a mutual understanding and quietly left the room.

Claud Laurence supported Alice Robinson as they walked into the room. He didn’t stay long—after helping her sit down, he left the room and closed the door.

In the large ICU room, only Alice and Chester Robinson were present.

Chester’s head was wrapped in layers of gauze. He was sleeping peacefully, his brow smooth, his breathing even, looking as if he were merely asleep.

Her face held a serene smile, her hand gently caressing Chester’s handsome face.

She watched Chester for a long time, continuously thanking the heavens in her heart.

After a long while, Alice left the room.

Rebecca Quentin and Christine Quinn smiled at her.

Alice approached Rebecca Quentin, her voice strained, saying, "Thank you for staying by my brother’s side at such a crucial moment, even though I know it wasn’t quite appropriate for you."

Rebecca Quentin took Alice’s hand, "If I told you that everything I said to Chester in the operating room was about the pieces of your life and Chester’s, would you believe it?"

"It doesn’t matter what you said to him; as long as you’re by his side, I know he can pull through."

"Alice..."

Rebecca wanted to say more, but Alice interrupted her, "Regardless, thank you... thank you all."

Howard Geoffrey said, "We can’t be sure when Chester will wake up yet, but don’t worry. Director Turner said Chester will definitely wake up in three days at the latest."

"Thank you, Howard," Alice sincerely replied.

"Alice, you seem really tired... why don’t you go home and rest for a while? We’ll all stay by Doctor Robinson’s side, and with us taking care of him, you can rest easy!"

Alice nodded, "Rachel is alone at home, I’ll go check on her."

"Alice, let me take you home!" Claud Laurence offered by the elevator.

"No need, Claud, I’m fine... Let Keith Antony take me home; you should rest too."

"Alright then, I’ll wait for you at the hospital."

"Hmm."

Claud Laurence instructed Keith Antony, "Take good care of her."

Keith Antony nodded and helped Alice into the elevator.

Claud Laurence watched the elevator doors close slowly until her figure vanished. At this moment, she might just want some peace and quiet.

In the car, Keith Antony said, "Miss Alice, you can lean back and sleep for a while. I’ll wake you up when we get home."

Alice was indeed exhausted and leaned back in the seat, soon falling asleep.

Keith Antony watched Alice’s sleepy face in the rearview mirror with a heavy sigh.

"Mommy..."

Upon arriving home, Rachel ran over, hugging Alice’s legs.

Alice picked up the little sweetheart who had thrown herself into her arms and kissed her, "Little darling."

Rachel said, "Mommy, is uncle alright?"

Yes, yesterday morning, Rachel saw Chester being put into the ambulance...

Alice smiled, "He’s fine... Uncle is in the hospital, doing well, and he’ll be home in two days."

"Oh... Mommy, can I go see Uncle?"

"You can, Mommy will take you when I go to the hospital."

"Hmm."

"Mommy is a bit tired, I’m going to take a shower, and then I’ll keep you company."

"Alright."

After showering, Alice came down looking refreshed.

Keith Antony was playing with Rachel. Upon seeing Alice, he quickly got up from the sofa.

"Miss Alice."

Alice said, "Assistant Antony, I’ve packed some of my brother’s clothes. When you go to the hospital later, please bring them."

"Alright." Seeing Alice looking refreshed and seemingly all right, Keith Antony finally breathed out, "Miss Alice, you need to rest well too. There are enough people at the hospital, so don’t worry."

"Hmm..."

"Then I’ll head out."

"Go ahead!"

After Keith Antony left, Rachel said, "Mommy, why don’t we go see Uncle now?"

Alice sat on the sofa holding Rachel, "What’s wrong, sweetheart?"

"I miss Uncle..."

"Sweetheart..."

"Hmm?"

"Mommy knows you love Uncle very much, but Mommy brought you to Uncle’s only for a vacation. In a few days, Mommy will take you back to France."

Rachel’s eyes widened with innocent surprise, "We’re going to leave Uncle?"

"Hmm."

"Why?"

"Because we can’t live with Uncle... Uncle has his own life, and we have ours."

"But isn’t Mommy and Uncle always supposed to be together?" The wimpy kid’s lips began to pout.

Alice shook her head, "Mommy knows you’re reluctant, but Uncle has his own life to live."

Rachel’s mouth pouted, "Then will Uncle come to France to see us?"

Alice’s gaze gradually became distant, and after a long while, she finally responded, "He won’t come to France in the future..."

"Why? Doesn’t Uncle want to see me?"

Alice sniffed and took a deep breath, "Be good, Uncle isn’t not coming to see you, it’s just that he has things to attend to here. Of course, if he has time, he will come and see you."

Rachel pouted and began to sob, "But I can’t bear to be without Uncle..."

Alice hugged Rachel and gave her a kiss, "Be good."

Hospital.

In the depth of night, Alice sat quietly on the edge of the bed.

Rachel had already fallen asleep on the family’s accompanying bed beside her.

Chester still hadn’t woken up, but the color in his face was much better than it was in the morning.

Alice held Chester’s hand, not speaking, her eyes unblinkingly watching him.

Knock, knock――

A knock came at the door.

"Come in."

The visitor was Claud Laurence.

Alice smiled slightly at Claud Laurence, "See, he’ll definitely recover well; he looks much better than he did this morning."

"The doctor examined Chester in the afternoon and said his condition is good."

"I believe he’ll wake up in a day or two."

Claud Laurence nodded, "They’ve all gone to rest, you should rest too. There’s an empty bed in the next room."

"I took a nap this afternoon, I’m not sleepy now... you go sleep in the next room, I want to keep him company."

Claud knew he couldn’t persuade Alice, so finally, he could only nod, "Alright, I’ll be resting next door, call me if you need anything."

"Mm."

The ward returned to silence.

Alice held Chester’s hand, gently placing it on her face, "Brother..."

Chester didn’t respond.

"Can you hear me?"

Chester continued to sleep peacefully.

Alice still smiled foolishly, "Do you know how happy I am that you’re safe now?" Alice’s voice choked, "Do you know how afraid I was that the surgery would fail and you’d leave me..."

"Brother, tomorrow I’ll be taking Rachel and leaving T City. Please forgive me for not being by your side, watching you wake up..."

Alice slowly leaned against Chester’s chest, listening to his regular heartbeat, hoarsely whispering, "Thank you for giving me these wonderful days, even though I know they may not be beautiful to you... No matter what, I’ll never regret meeting you..."

"Brother... goodbye."

In the middle of the night, Claud Laurence, worried, got up to check on Alice in the next room, but she wasn’t in the ward.

Claud Laurence searched all around, alerting Howard Geoffrey and others resting in the hospital, but still couldn’t find Alice.

Just as Claud Laurence was about to call Alice, he discovered there was a text message on his phone.

"Claud, don’t worry about me. I’m just on the plane back to France with Rachel... Please apologize to everyone for me."

Claud Laurence showed the text message to everyone.

Everyone fell silent, and Keith Antony said incomprehensibly, "Why did Miss Alice return to France at this time? Why didn’t she wait for the boss to wake up?"

Claud Laurence turned and rushed to the elevator.

On the plane, the lights were dim.

Alice leaned back in her seat, tears silently streaming.

A teardrop fell onto Rachel’s face as she lay in her lap...

Rachel whimpered, waking from her sleep, "Mommy..."

Alice snapped back to her senses, hastily wiping away the tears around her eyes, "Hmm? Honey, you’re awake?"

Rachel looked around, confused, and asked, "Mommy, where are we?"

Alice answered truthfully, "We’re on a plane now."

"A plane?"

"Mm, we’re on a plane back to France."

Rachel sat up from Alice’s lap, "Mommy, are we going back to France now?"

Alice nodded, "I’m sorry, honey... I was planning to go back in a couple of days, but the weather forecast said there would be thunderstorms then, not suitable for flying."

Rachel lowered her head, mumbling, "But we didn’t even get to say goodbye to Uncle!"

"It’s okay, your Uncle knows we’re going back."

"But Mommy... I don’t want to be apart from Uncle." Rachel was already choking back tears, about to cry.

Alice quickly comforted her, "When we get to France, I’ll let you call Uncle, okay?" She had no choice but to deceive her child at that moment.

Rachel’s head lowered even more, pouting as she reluctantly agreed, "Okay."

Alice’s heart ached as she held Rachel tightly to her chest, "I’m sorry, it’s all Mommy’s fault..."

Hospital.

In the afternoon, a breeze blew by, sunlight filtering through the leaves.

Chester reclined on a chair, the bandages on his head not yet fully removed.

From afar, a graceful figure approached.

Keith Antony politely greeted, "Miss Quentin."

Rebecca Quentin handed the homemade soup to Keith Antony with a smile, then walked over to Chester, "Doctor Robinson, you look good today."

The sunlight seemed blinding, Chester squinted slightly, "You’re late today."

Rebecca Quentin knelt down to look at Chester serenely, "I was packing clothes... Howard Geoffrey said the plane is in the afternoon, I’ve come to say goodbye to you."

Chester’s deep eyes darkened slightly. "Leaving today?"

Rebecca Quentin nodded, "We’ve been here for more than a week, and Geoffrey still has many things to handle back at ’Geoffrey.’ The merger of ’Skytop’ and ’Oversky’ is now collectively known as ’Geoffrey’ Group."
