Chapter 183: The Soul Inside The Soul

What you seek is seeking you.

But Zane for sure wasn’t seeking Leon Bronzers.

So his question to everyone else made sense.

If Zane wasn’t looking for that gilded trash then...

"Why is Leon Bronzers looking for me?"

He asked everyone. But most of all, he was asking himself.

"Maybe he is working with the Emberlord?" Draxus suggested.

Zane said nothing.

"Yes." Tesla nodded. "That could be. Maybe the Emberlord asked Leon’s help to find you and stop you from finding the relic."

Zane said nothing.

"It’s safe to say that the Emberlord and Leon are working together." Jammy chimed in.

Zane looked at Xavier.

"What do you think?"

Xavier flinched.

He wasn’t expecting Zane to ask him directly.

But now that he was asked, he won’t stay quiet.

"The Emberlord couldn’t find you so he must have asked Leon for help. I can only think this is the case."

Zane nodded.

"That might be it. But I don’t think Leon will help without any gain. He must be getting something out of this. Or he could simply be doing this because he doesn’t like me. Hatred can do wonders."

No one said anything.

Zane continued.

"Now we have to be careful of two forces all the while looking for the relic. What a pain."

He shook his head and everyone else felt the pressure of their work.

But seeing Zane tensing, all of them clenched their fists.

"Don’t worry. We will do our best."

"Yes. We only need to find Horum."

"Leave it to us."

Everyone assured Zane that they could do it and the gutterborn watched them with his mouth slightly open.

He forgot words.

He never heard the promises from someone saying they would work hard for him, or support him.

Seeing their determined faces, Zane could only smile.

"Thank you. Let’s get to the work then."

Zane looked at the crystal on his hand.

"How does this work?" He asked Jammy.

"It’s something to do with resonance." Jammy gave a vague answer mostly because he didn’t know that much as well.

"How did you contact Leon?" Zane asked.

Jammy shrugged. "It glowed in some color and the next thing I know, he was already speaking from behind it."

Zane slightly nodded and looked at Hena.

"Don’t look at me. I am also not familiar with them. Not everyone has it."

Hena also didn’t know.

Zane sighed.

"I should try it then."

He closed his eyes.

"I just have to use my Resonance on it, right?" He asked.

"That’s what I did." Jammy said.

"If I do that, what will happen?" Zane asked before doing it.

Jammy shrugged once more. "I am not sure. Maybe you will contact someone else. Like an Enforcer or something."

"Alright. I can give it a try."

Zane closed his eyes.

He focused hard.

He went deep inside his mind but the next second, his eyes shot open.

Everyone gulped.

"What happened?" Xavier asked.

Zane jerked his head at him.

"I... I.." He stuttered.

Everyone paid attention and Zane revealed:

"I don’t know how to use my Resonance on something."

"Motherfuc—"

Xavier punched the wall.

Zane laughed.

Xavier glared at him.

"Have you not learned anything?"

Zane frowned. "I just awakened my Skills two days ago. How can I learn something this fast?"

Xavier pinched the bridge of his nose.

"The skills have nothing to do with using Resonance."

"I don’t know." Zane gave an honest answer.

Xavier inhaled.

"I am not good at explaining but I will try."

Zane nodded.

Xavier began.

"Everyone is born with a resonance in their soul. Think of it like a quality of your soul. Each soul has a different resonance and it floats around your body and it never dies. And people can use it if they focus on it. You know, like you can move it left and right and other things. Even little Milo has it. So move your resonance on the crystal and it will work."

"But if I put it on the crystal wouldn’t it become less? What if I put too much? What if I empty myself?"

Xavier let out a tired sigh.

"Just put a tiny amount. It is easier to control. And you won’t become empty of it. It replenishes itself instantly. Each soul has a certain amount of resonance inside them and the soul always makes sure the original amount remains inside the body even if you spend it on something."

"Oh. So if I have a hundred resonance and use fifty, then it will return to hundred right away. Is that it?"

"Yes. But not right away. Some souls regenerate faster and some take time. I don’t know about yours. So no promises."

Zane nodded. "I think I get it now. You explain well, Xavier. Don’t underestimate yourself."

Xavier rolled his eyes.

"Just do the shit."

Zane laughed and got on with it.

He held the crystal in his right palm and closed his eyes.

He looked inside himself.

But before his soul, he went inside his mind.

There were now three red threads in total.

One for Xavier, one for Hena and one for Jammy.

All of them had four knots on them.

Wait. Not here.

Zane switched places and focused inside his chest.

He imagined an astral body inside his body, and surely, in no time, he saw his soul.

It was transparent. And its color was...

Every color.

Zane couldn’t name the color at all.

Some shades of purple, some shades of red, some of black and some of gold.

All the colors created a different color as a result Zane couldn’t see the color of his soul.

But he believed the soul must have no color.

Nevertheless, forgetting about the color, he realized the colorful coating on his soul must be his resonance.

So he focused on making a small part of it move.

Since the crystal was on his right palm, he focused on the resonance of his right hand.

But he went for his little finger and forced it to move.

He did his best and that effort only managed to move a tiny bit.

However, that seemed to be enough as the crystal turned green.

"You did it!" Xavier shouted.

He was on the verge of tears like a proud teacher seeing his student becoming a Riftguard.

But since Xavier had shouted after the crystal turned green, it meant...

"Did what?"

The other side heard it too.
