Chapter 211: Chapter 211
Nicholas’s POV
Darkness.
Absolute, suffocating darkness.
I floated in an endless, terrifying void. I had absolutely no idea where I was. I had no idea how much time had passed. Time didn’t seem to exist in this empty, pitch-black space. There was no sky. There was no ground. There was just me, trapped in a chaotic sea of nothingness.
And the pain.
The pure, agonizing, indescribable pain.
It completely consumed me. Every single inch of my body screamed in absolute agony. I felt like I had been violently crushed underneath a massive, falling mountain. My heavy bones felt like jagged, broken glass. My muscles felt like they were actively burning in a raging fire. My chest was so impossibly tight, every heartbeat was pure torture.
I desperately tried to move.
I tried to force my brain to send a simple command to my hand. Just twitch a finger. Just make a fist.
Nothing happened.
I was completely paralyzed. My heavy body absolutely refused to respond. I was a helpless prisoner trapped inside my own ruined flesh. I couldn’t move my arms. I couldn’t shift my heavy legs. I couldn’t even flutter my completely swollen eyelids open.
I tried to take a deep breath, but a sharp, violent pain completely ripped through my ribs. I choked. The thick, metallic taste of warm blood completely filled my dry mouth. It pooled in the back of my throat, making me violently gag. But I couldn’t even cough. I couldn’t even turn my heavy head to spit it out.
I am the Alpha King.
I am supposed to be completely invincible. I am supposed to be the strongest wolf in the entire kingdom. But right now, I was absolutely powerless.
Then, I heard it.
Through the heavy, suffocating chaos of my mind, a sound vibrated.
Voices.
They were incredibly far away. They were completely muffled, like I was listening to them from the absolute bottom of a deep, dark ocean. They echoed strangely in my heavy mind.
"Grab..." a rough, distant voice muttered.
"...heavy..." another voice complained.
I completely strained my broken mind. I forcefully pushed past the dizzying, nauseating waves of pure pain. I desperately needed to listen. I needed to understand what was happening outside of my broken body.
Who were they?
Were they my royal warriors? Did Roman finally find me? Did Andrei track my bloody scent through the freezing snow? Were they carrying me home?
Or was it them?
Were these Kossarov’s filthy, disgusting mercenaries? The rogues who ambushed us. The monsters who completely ripped my royal guards apart. Were they dragging my broken, bleeding body into the dark woods to completely finish the absolute slaughter?
"Blood... too much..." a voice echoed, distorted and completely unclear.
"...doesn’t matter... move..." another harsh sound vibrated against my ears.
I desperately wanted to roar. I wanted to forcefully shift into my massive wolf form and violently tear their throats completely out. I forcefully called out to my inner wolf. I begged him to wake up. I begged him to lend me his violent, ancient strength.
But my inner wolf was completely silent. He was buried too deep beneath the agonizing trauma and the massive blood loss. He was completely unresponsive.
Panic suddenly violently clawed at my chest.
It wasn’t panic for myself. I didn’t care if I died. I didn’t care if I bled out in the freezing dirt.
My panic was for her.
Irina.
My beautiful, brave mate. My fragile, pregnant Luna.
Her sweet, pale face violently flashed in my dark mind. Her warm, beautiful eyes. Her soft, pink lips. The gentle, loving way she always touched her growing stomach.
A fresh wave of pure, absolute desperation completely crashed over me. It was infinitely worse than the agonizing physical pain. It completely shattered my heart into a million pieces.
Where was she?
Was she safe? Was she running? Did my royal warriors successfully protect her from the massive rogue attack? Or did Kossarov’s filthy men get to her? Did they touch her?
Just the horrifying thought of anyone hurting my Irina made my blood boil with pure, helpless rage.
I forcefully reached deep inside my ruined chest. I blindly searched the absolute darkness for our mate bond. The pure, magical, golden thread that directly connected my heavy soul to hers. It was my only lifeline. It was my only absolute truth.
I found it, but it was incredibly weak.
It was dangerously thin. It was completely cold. It wasn’t humming with her soft, warm heartbeat like it usually did. It felt completely frayed, like it was about to violently snap at any given second.
I pushed every single ounce of my remaining energy directly into the weak bond. I completely tore my heavy soul open.
*Irina!* I screamed violently inside my mind. *Irina!*
Silence.
A heavy, terrifying, absolute silence answered me.
*Irina, please!* I roared desperately. *My beautiful mate! Can you hear me? Are you safe?*
Nothing.
There was absolutely no warm vibration. There was no soft, comforting whisper of her sweet voice. There was just an empty, terrifying echo in the dark void.
*I love you!* I cried out in pure, agonizing desperation. *Irina! I am so completely sorry! I am so sorry I failed you! Do not cry for me! Please do not cry!*
I waited. I desperately held onto my fading consciousness. I aggressively prayed to the Moon Goddess for just one single whisper from my mate. Just one tiny spark of her absolute warmth to tell me she was alive. To tell me she was completely okay.
But nobody answered me.
My agonizing screams just violently bounced around the endless, chaotic darkness of my broken mind. Nobody heard me. I was completely alone.
The agonizing pain suddenly spiked with terrifying intensity.
It was completely overwhelming. My heavy mind started to violently slip. I couldn’t hold onto the thoughts anymore. They were aggressively slipping through my fingers like cold water.
The dark void violently pulled me down. It was aggressively swallowing me completely whole. I was drowning in the cold, black chaos.
I was absolutely fading away.
I stopped fighting. I was so incredibly tired. The pain was just too much. I couldn’t hold on anymore.
I am so sorry, Irina, I thought weakly. I love you completely.
My heavy consciousness blurred into a chaotic, terrifying gray mist. I completely let go. I allowed the heavy darkness to completely pull me under the deep surface.
Then, exactly at the absolute edge of death, everything suddenly stopped.
The agonizing pain completely vanished. The terrifying cold completely disappeared.
A sudden, brilliant light directly pierced the heavy, suffocating darkness. It was completely blinding. It was pure, warm, and absolutely beautiful.
A voice echoed from the high heavens.
It was a soft, gentle female voice. It wasn’t a voice from the physical world. It sounded absolutely divine. It sounded completely ancient and full of pure, magical power. It instantly wrapped around my broken, fading soul like a warm, comforting blanket.
"The noble white wolf bloodline will save you from this dire peril," the ethereal voice softly whispered from above. "The white wolf bloodline will save the werewolf world."
