Chapter 409: Anger Of The World
Clouds covered the land, their extent couldn’t be seen. Within the clouds themselves, many different colors could be seen, streaking back and forth. While the lightning targeted Tezcatlipoca who was still stuck in the hole, it still struck at random as well. Because of this, several of the solders and the armored vehicles got struck as well, causing death and destruction. While Tezcatlipoca wouldn’t be killed by the lightning, the same couldn’t be said about the regular humans as well.
Now, normally the will of the world’s anger would be directed at the person challenging it. But when it couldn’t reach them, it would just vent it’s fury towards whatever and whoever was around. On a normal day, that didn’t include regular humans since they weren’t in opposition to the will. The difference here was that since those normal beings were in a close approximation to Laz, they were considered a part of this plot to hide Laz and therefore shown no mercy, even if they weren’t being directly targeted.
Tezcatlipoca, on the other hand, had to endure strike after strike of lightning mixed with other elements. Fire, Ice, compressed air and even lightning propelling small chunks of rock. Compared to the lightning itself, the things within it were of no consequence. But to Tezcatlipoca, it was painful to be hit over and over again when his body was still in it’s weakened state. What’s more, Tezcatlipoca had yet to free himself from the ground, making his ability to dodge far less that it would have been normally.
The worst part about this was that when the bolts hit, they were weakened as they coursed through Tezcatlipoca’s body so that when they finally met their target, they posed almost no threat to Laz. In fact, after being filtered through a god’s body, the amount of help they gave Laz was far more effective than it would have been otherwise and there was barely an ounce of their destructive powers left.
Laz quickly sat down in the kayak and channeled his Infinity technique, allowing the pure energy of the heavens to wash over him, tempering his body, strengthening it and filling in the depleted energy of his system. Within his inner world, the land around the palace had grown more lush and vibrant as the energy was quickly absorbed and dissipated. Taking his que from his earlier endeavors, Laz used the energy to only strengthen his world and not try to expand it. Once that energy began to circulate, it quickly change the energy in Laz’s body from one of poor, normal quality to one that began to reflect the strength of the heavens. While the quantity of his energy didn’t change, the quality rose several levels.
As Laz felt it working, he also noticed his bloodline roaring with the influx. His bloodline strength of an Asura was surely special, but like a high performance car, he needed a high performance gasoline to allow it to perform it’s best. And it was only now that he was getting that.
Outside, the bolts of lightning striking Tezcatlipoca hand more than tripled as the energy battered his already weakened body. While getting hit with a foam bat wouldn’t hurt, getting hit over and over again with a foam bat would start to make one uncomfortable.
Just as Tezcatlipoca was about to just let his body take the blows and remove the stakes despite the damage, the lightning from the clouds stopped.
Tezcatlipoca looked up, sensing something that made even his hair stand on end. The several colors of lightning had disappeared, replaced with a strong force that Tezcatlipoca had not seen before. While still resembling lightning, the bolts were now a jet black color, making them blend in with the clouds and almost impossible to see.
Off to the side, the remains of the army that had marched on the order’s home ground were desperately trying to escape, leaving their dead and wounded behind as they called for backup. Three of the four helicopters had crashed from the lightning blasts while the last one was able to land safely but could no longer be used for flying.
"I repeat, I need magical back up. Repeat, MAGICAL BACK UP. I’M FACING A GOD DAMNED GIANT WHO CAN CONTROL THE WEATHER YOU FUCKERS. NOW SEND ME SOME TROOPS THAT CAN ACTUALLY HELP!!!" The captain yelled, his face a mess of blood and dirt. All around him, he heard the screaming of his men and their cries of pain as he tried his best to get help and get himself and anyone else alive the fuck out of their. He didn’t care if he was brought up on a court marshal for abandoning the mission. This wasn’t something his team could survive, let alone handle.
"FUCKING INFECTED!!!!" The captain called out as a group of people approached the survivors.
"Please. We need help. We’ve been held here against our will. PLEASE HELP US!"
The men who had been held prisoners had escaped in the ensuing destruction and made their way towards the only safe place they could see within this nightmare, the armed military troops. While they had come in with guns blazing and moral high to kill this creature, the only thing they had to show for it was their own deaths as they had been set upon by nature itself.
Considering the circumstances, the men should have never tried to approach the scared and badly injured troops as before the Captain even had a chance to address them, gunfire rang out all around as those who were still able to hold a gun opened fire on the crazy looking men who had charged at them. With the booming thunder and howls of pain and anger from Tezcatlipoca sounding all over the place, there was no way for the troops to have heard what those men had been saying.
As the captain silently watched on, all of the prisoners who had charged the decimated convoy had been killed. The captain then just turned his head back to the radio and kept yelling for help.
A ways away, on the other side of the compound, Celes, Nora, Joan and Gia were ripping apart the gated entrance way in an effort to clear enough room for the vans and buses to go by. With all the action happening around them, there was no electricity with which to deactivate the locks on the gate.
"That should be enough, let’s go..." Celes cried out, getting everyone’s attention.
"This road is a one way street along twisted and rocky terrain. Assuming we go this way, there is almost no place to turn around," Joan reminded Celes as they boarded the van.
"We don’t have a choice. Since you dragged me away anyway, I’m going to make damn sure all of you live long enough to help me with my revenge," Celes shot back at her, a hint of crazy in her eyes.
Joan just shook her head helplessly and closed the door.
Or she tried to.
Gia stopped her and got out, her eyes perched on the road ahead.
"FUCK!" She yelled, getting everyone’s attention.
"What?" Joan asked, trying to see for herself.
It was Celes who answered, her eyes as black as the void as she studied the road ahead.
"It’s already been blocked off. I don’t know it it’s from the same convoy that came in through the other gate, but if we go this way, they will surely attack the buses and knock us off the road. Then we will just be sitting ducks for them to target at will," Celes said, her voice now dripping with malice. It was bad enough that she was pulled away from Laz, but now she was even being denied a way to survive with her sister’s so that she might seek her revenge.
"So what do we do?" Asked Gia, who turned to look at Celes.
"We retreat into the forest, as deep as we can. We hide the vehicles and make a break on foot if we have to. Either way, we will survive. UNDERSTOOD?" Celes last words were an order as opposed to a suggested. Everyone standing around just nodded their heads and began moving again, getting the busses and van turned around to head into the dense forests as far as they could go.
No matter what, they would survive.
As Tezcatlipoca looked on, the first bolt of black lightning blasted away from the clouds and came right at him. Moving his arms to block it, Tezcatlipoca took the attack head on, allowing the strange lightning to hit him in his folded up arms. The blasts was hundreds of times more powerful than the ones that had come before and even with the body of a god, Tezcatlipoca was sent flying backwards, his body yanked from the ground as his arms were fractured from the impact.
"FUCK!" Tezcatlipoca cursed, using the human word that felt most appropriate for the situation.
Another beam shot out at Tezcatlipoca who had barely managed to sit up. He had just enough time to again bring his broken arms up as he was again hit, this time causing his fractured arms to break fully until they were bent in funny angles.
Several drops of blood seeped out of his mouth as he stared up at the sky, trying to figure out if the attack was over yet.
The sky seemed to be calm for a moment, causing Tezcatlipoca to relax slightly before it rumbled once more, this time shaking the earth in a way that Tezcatlipoca couldn’t have done even if he was at full strength.
"NO. NO!" Tezcatlipoca yelled and in a moment of panic, he actually caused himself to gag and spit out Laz who was thrown violently from the kayak he had been meditating in along with several gallons of gastric juices.
Just as Laz was about to cheer about being free, he looked up as the bolt of black lightning condensed above him.
"YOU WORTHLESS SON OF A BITCH!!!" Laz screamed at Tezcatlipoca who was crawling away on the ground.
