Chapter 402: Chapter 401: The Great War Begins
The threat in Shen Haoran’s voice, however, made the leaders of these factions uneasy. ’After all, we’re the heads of our own factions,’ they thought. ’To be threatened by a mere boy... If word of this got out, how could we show our faces?’
"Boy, are you threatening us?" an old man stepped forward, his gaze hostile.
"Don’t think we’re afraid of you just because you have a Spirit Emperor Powerhouse backing you up," the others chimed in. "There are so many of us here. I refuse to believe you have what it takes to kill every last one of us!"
However, Shen Haoran was completely unfazed by their animosity. His indifferent expression made some of the faction leaders uncertain, unable to fathom the true extent of the power behind him.
"The Celestial Martial Auction House will not be involved in this matter," Luo Xiaowen said calmly from the side, just as the crowd was united against a common enemy. She then led the members of the Celestial Martial Auction House away from the conflict.
"Oh, right. Just a friendly reminder," Luo Xiaowen said as she was leaving, offering the crowd a faint smile. "This young man is backed by an Alchemist. As for that Alchemist’s level... all I can say is that the Fourth Grade Calm Spirit Pill with a Pill Pattern we auctioned off a while ago was his handiwork. I don’t need to spell out the rest, do I?"
At her words, the once-rowdy crowd fell silent. They stared at Shen Haoran in mid-air, too shocked to process what they had just heard.
’That Fourth Grade Calm Spirit Pill was actually made by this boy’s teacher!’ The crowd exchanged stunned glances, each seeing the shock reflected in the others’ eyes. A Pill Pattern... Even Martial Artists who didn’t practice Alchemy knew what that signified. An Alchemist capable of creating a Pill Pattern was an absolute Master Level existence in the Alchemy Realm. An Alchemist of that caliber would be revered like a lord in any Major Sect or great clan. Their status was unbelievably noble!
Moreover, an Alchemist of that level possessed terrifying influence. Who wouldn’t want to have their painstakingly gathered Spirit Medicines refined into more effective Elixirs? Who wouldn’t want to be on good terms with such an Alchemist? A connection like that could save your life one day! In short, if an Alchemist like that so much as asked, countless Martial Artists would flock to serve him. Even recruiting a Spirit Emperor Powerhouse would probably be easy!
At this thought, a chill ran down the spines of the faction leaders. They instantly regretted their words. ’This kid has such a badass teacher,’ they realized. ’Forget killing us, his teacher could probably just say the word, summon a few Spirit Emperor Powerhouses, and wipe our headquarters off the map with ease. Offending an Alchemist like that is a fate worse than offending Fallen Valley!’
"Er... young brother, I’ve just remembered some urgent business back at the Sect that needs my attention. I won’t impose any longer. I’ll be taking my leave!" A moment later, one of the old men stood up. He offered Shen Haoran a cupped-fist salute, spoke quietly, and then left without a backward glance.
Seeing one person leave, the other faction leaders quickly followed suit, scrambling for all sorts of reasons and excuses. Someone even used the ridiculous lie that his family’s old hen had died and he needed to go back for the funeral. Shen Haoran paid them no mind and didn’t try to stop them. A moment later, the once-bustling area in front of the Hehuan Sect’s main hall was completely empty.
"A bunch of gutless cowards!" Chen Hutian cursed under his breath as he watched the faction leaders leave one after another.
In mid-air, Shen Haoran watched the various faction leaders depart and let out a heavy sigh of relief. ’Thank goodness I fabricated a non-existent teacher. Otherwise, it would have been difficult to get rid of them. After all, those factions were based in Divine Martial City and had some ties to the Hehuan Sect. If the Hehuan Sect had asked for their help, they could have caused me some unexpected trouble.’
’Fortunately, I used my fictional teacher to scare them away. Now, the Hehuan Sect is isolated and without allies. If everything goes according to plan, I will eradicate the Hehuan Sect today!’
With that thought, Shen Haoran beat the wings on his back and descended from the sky, his eyes locking onto Chen Hutian.
"Hmph! Don’t think you can run wild in my Hehuan Sect just because you have a Spirit Emperor Powerhouse on your side. My Hehuan Sect’s hundreds of disciples and six Elders are not to be trifled with!" Chen Hutian sneered at Shen Haoran.
"Oh, is that so?" Shen Haoran gave Chen Hutian a slight smile and spoke softly. "I wonder if Master Chen has ever heard of an Elixir called the Transformation Pill?"
Shen Haoran’s voice was quiet, but to Chen Hutian’s ears, it was a thunderclap. His body trembled. He shot Shen Haoran a venomous glare before leaping into the air to look out over the square in front of the main hall.
In the square, hundreds of disciples were gathered. They had all come for the Grand Elder’s wedding and should have been full of life. But now, they looked like wilted plants, every one of them with their head hung low as the flow of Spiritual Power within their bodies grew fainter and fainter.
This was the power of the Transformation Pill. A single Elixir would affect anyone below the Spirit Aspect Tier, causing the Spiritual Power in their bodies to drain away uncontrollably. As a result, the strength of the Hehuan Sect disciples had already been drastically reduced.
"You... You’re despicable!" Veins bulged on Chen Hutian’s forehead as he saw his listless disciples. He glared at Shen Haoran with such venomous hatred he looked as if he wanted to eat him alive.
"Heh heh. When it comes to being despicable, how could I possibly compare to your Hehuan Sect?" Shen Haoran said coolly. "This is a mercy, considering who you are."
"Don’t think you can take down our Hehuan Sect just because you’ve weakened our disciples! Elders, attack together! Seize this brat for me!" Chen Hutian could no longer contain his rage and barked the order at the Elders behind him.
’Can’t hold it in any longer?’ Shen Haoran sneered as he watched the six Elders charge toward him. He shot backward in a burst of speed, and at the same time, pulled a Signal Flare from his robes and fired it.
"Xue Ling, Master Chen is all yours!" Shen Haoran called out, then charged deeper into the Hehuan Sect.
"Where do you think you’re going!" Seeing Shen Haoran try to flee, Chen Hutian flickered and was about to give chase. But in the next instant, Xue Ling appeared before him, blocking his path.
"Do you truly insist on making an enemy of my Hehuan Sect?" Chen Hutian said gravely, staring at the bewitching Xue Ling before him.
"It’s merely a transaction," Xue Ling said nonchalantly. "If you can offer a price that tempts me, I’ll kill him for you instead."
"Good! I don’t know what that boy offered you, but the Hehuan Sect is willing to pay double!" Chen Hutian declared boldly.
"He gave me my life," Xue Ling said, her beautiful eyes sweeping over Chen Hutian with a cold glance. "Can you offer that?..."
