Chapter 325: Chapter 323:Dire.

A heavy silence fell upon the entire clearing as everyone finally righted themselves.

Not bothering with any form of decorum, I sat cross legged on the floor, Malachi following suit with Leo crouching right beside us.

Our undivided attention locked on to the old man.

I felt his indifferent gaze locked unto us.

He wasn’t doing anything. Yet it felt like he was seeing far more than any of us had any idea of.

"Heh! Damn old man." I sneered in my head. Making sure to have that technique up if I didn’t want my ass flamed.

"Hmm?" He seemed to have picked up on it as he raised a brow, his stare pausing briefly on my face.

"Shit." I broke into an unconscious sweat as I waited for him to look away, and thankfully, he did.

"Hoo..." a breath of relief escaped me before I could stop it.

"Alright. Let’s get this over with. I didn’t think there was going to be another one but it doesn’t matter either way." The old man began, voice not shifting from that plain tone of his.

"The dean has told me that all preparations are ready and you will soon be leaving for the abyss to commence the examinations."

That had me raising an eyebrow.

"Umm.. old man.. I only see three of us here, shouldn’t you be telling the other candidates this as well?"I asked.

Don’t get me wrong. I had no problem with favoritism but it just seemed weird.

"Hmm? Why would I do such a thankless task?" He asked.

"Uhh... becuase you’re an instructor here?"

"Let their teachers do their jobs and I’ll do mine." He waved off my concerns.

I shrugged. If he wasn’t bothered, then I shouldn’t be either.

"Now! You two. This will be your first time in the abyss so I thought it right to tell you a few things first. They’re mostly things you’ll figure out yourself once there, but having an idea before hand never hurt anyone." The old man continued, yet before he could go further.

"Two?" I asked. Doing a headcount with my eyes, I confirmed that I wasn’t seeing things.

"There’s three of us though. If you don’t count this fur ball that is."

"Oyyy!! I don’t even want to be here!!"

"Pipe down. Fur ball."

"Arrrrgggggghh!!!!"

Ignoring the disgruntled fur ball, I turned to the old man.

"So, old man. What’d you mean two?"

"Heh! Fool." Leo scoffed.

"Oyy! Chicken-cat. I dare you to say that again."

"Fool."

"Fuck! That’s it! I’m whooping your ass!" I stood.

"Enough!"

Then sat right back down at the sound of the old man’s chastisement.

"Heh. Wimp."

BANG!

A solid fist connected with the Chicken-cat’s head.

"I thought I said enough?" The old man spoke up, his body having not moved an inch, yet the rising bump on Leo’s head said differently..

"So.. sorry father."

"Heh! Wimp."

"Haaaa...." I could hear the old man sigh in almost weary exhaustion.

"Let’s just get this over with." He waved his hand.

"Dante." He called out.

"Yes?"

"The reason I said you two, was becuase I was referring to you and young Malachi over there. Leo has already been to the abyss before."

"Eyy? This guy? And he survived? Aren’t there like scary infernals or whatever there? Their menus don’t involve chicken-cats?"

"Dante! You fucking bastard!"

"Haa.. yes. Leo has already completed one Abyss expedition. This won’t be his first. Now remain quiet and let me finish."

I shrugged. Ignoring the death glare I was receiving from Leo.

The old man continued smoothly.

"Normally neither of you should be qualified considering you’re still outer court students, but your personal prowess and the way you handled the mutated dungeon break incident made you an exception."

One could really never tell if the old man was giving him a compliment or acknowledging effort. With that expressionless face of his, it gets confusing. But, for the sake of my own peace, I just assumed it was a compliment, so..

"Thanks old man. I try." I huffed proudly.

Ignoring me, he continued.

"As for Leo here. He’s going to the abyss for the other reason I told you about."

"Wait. You guys are actually committing to this Wilde goose chase?" I asked, surprised that they were actually willing to put in effort.

"No matter how slim the chances, we still have to check. Besides the academy loses nothing but stands to gain a lot if we do find it."

"I guess that makes sense. So the chicken-cat is just collateral. Heh! How fitting."

"Dante.. I swear to god.."

....

"Now for information about the abyss itself. There are a few things you’ll need to know, others I’ll let you figure out yourselves."

We nodded. Attention locked into whatever words were about to escape his lips.

"Let me start by saying this. If you treat the abyss as casual as any other realm. Or pocket dimension. Or dungeon. Or anything. You. Will. Die."

Nobody reacted to those words.

Not because they weren’t effective. But because we’ve been hearing about our capacity to die from the old man for too long to start reacting at every turn.

Well, none except...

"Eeeiiiiiiii!!! What?? Die?? Who? Me? Nope the fur not! Absolute!! Take me back! Take me back! Take me back!!" The tiny fur ball immediately lost it.

His tantrums falling onto deaf ears as we all continued like nothing happened..

"Oyy!! Don’t ignore me!! Oyy!! Absolute!! You bastard!!!"

.......

.......

"Now, If you understand that, let me brief you on what to expect."

"Dante. You’re probably the one to be affected more than others."

"Me?"

"Yes."

"Why?"

"Because of everyone here, myself included. I dare say you’re the one suffering the most from Terra’s suppression. So the moment you step into the abyss. A space where her influence doesn’t reach. Be ready, do not lose control of your own strength because if you do, the consequences will be dire."

...

...

"Damn. Well, that was a lot to take in."

I muttered quietly as we made our towards my academy manor.

"Heh! What? Worried about what instructor valen said?" Malachi laughed.

"Me? Worried? Hah! If anything, I’m more curious to experience just what he was talking about."

"Of course you are, crazy bastard."

"Oy!!! Absolute! You bastard! Let me go!" The tiny fur ball appeared right in front of me. Tiny wings keeping him afloat.

"I’m not holding you though?"

"Arrrggghhhh!!! You brought me to this god forsaken central continent. And now you refuse to take me back??"

"Heh! You can go back if you want. I’m not taking you anywhere."

"Really?"

"Really."

"Well then, sayonara you fucker. Ahahaha!!" Laughing wildly, the tiny creature pulled out a stone from nowhere, crushed it.

The moment he did, I could feel the surrounding space contract and twist. A portal wanting to form rigth there.

"Heh!" With a single thought. The space solidified immediately, causing the portal’s creation to fail.

"What! What happened?"

"Who knows. Maybe your stone is a dud." I shrugged.

"Absolute! You bastard! What did you do?"

"I didn’t do anything."

"Then how the fuck did you know that the stone was doing something?"

"Uhhh... Fuck."

"ABSOLUTEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!"

SWAT!

"Damn. Dante. Where did you get this pipsqueak from? He’s too loud." Leo swatted the angry chipmunk away.

"YOU FUCKING CHICKEN-CAT!! I’LL TURN TOU INTO CHICKEN SOUP!!!"

ROOOOOOOOOOOARRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!

The entire place rumbled as a gigantic colossus appeared.

"Oyyy!! What did you just call me???"

"DIE YOU BASTARD!!!!"

ROOOARRRR!!!!!!!

A deafening roar was all Leo received in reply as the wind detonated, a massive claw shadowing the skies above us.

"This little fucker!"

SCREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!

Spreading his wings wide. Leo flew straight into the oncoming attack.

BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOMMMMMMMMMMMMMM!!!!

The runes of the academy lit up as they tried to prevent the collapse of mutiple structures.

"Hahahahahhaahaha!! Fight! Fight!! Fight!!!" I laughed, and then..

BOOM!!

Jumped into the fray.

You thought I was going to see a fight and not get involved? I’ll be damned.

BOOOOOOOOOOMMMMMMMMMM!!!!

The academy trembled.

Buildings shook and collapsed.

The runes proving futile as another four way battle royal began.

The abyss might be calling us.

Tomorrow we’d descend into hell.

But for today. Leo was still getting punched.

"HAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!!!!"

************

Tr33_Notes: These guys seem incapable of going a few minutes without fighting. Damn. The three were chaotic enough already. Why does it fell like this chipmunk has anger issues more than all of them.

Anyways..
