Chapter 2408: Chapter 2416: Needless Worry
"If you’re not happy, wait until later, after we’ve had dinner and I’m back at the hotel, then give me a call, and I’ll cheer you up." Jane Sampson’s voice was so gentle it was almost dripping with affection.
Having such a precious daughter-in-law, even the few traces of gloom in James Black’s heart dissipated in her gentle, soothing words.
"How do you plan to cheer me up?" James was quite interested in hearing how Jane planned to cheer him up over the phone.
"I’m here, you’re there, over the phone, I can’t kiss you or hold you, I can only sing a song for you." Jane said this and then laughed herself.
"Over the mountain, across the sea, there’s a little Jane?" Jane had sung this song in front of James before, so he remembered Jane’s adapted lyrics clearly.
"Uh..." Jane scratched her head with the hand not holding the mobile phone.
James’s guess was right.
This was indeed her plan.
"Alright, call me when you get back to the hotel to rest this evening. Now that you’re holding the phone, talking might distract you, so that’s it for now."
After James finished speaking, he hung up the call first.
He was worried that Jane might fall behind while chatting and walking simultaneously and also worried she might be bumped into by someone else.
Inside the house, Peter Gingery’s laughter filled the air as he teased the Great General.
James reached into his pocket for a cigarette box, but after taking out the lighter, he didn’t light a cigarette; instead, he clicked it twice and put both items back.
Jane didn’t like him smoking.
James stood in the courtyard until Aunt called him in to eat. By the time he went in, Old Master Black was already sitting at the dinner table with two children, while the Great General’s family was playing at Peter Gingery’s feet.
After James sat down beside him, Peter casually asked, "Were you just making a call with little Jane in the courtyard?"
"Yeah," James responded blandly.
"Did you contact little Jane about this matter?" Old Master Black’s first concern was whether his decision would make James angry at Jane. "This was my decision alone and has nothing to do with your wife."
"Old Sir, you’re worrying too much, to put it bluntly, you’re overthinking." Peter added a chopstick of green vegetables to the Old Master’s bowl. "Judging by how my brother dotes on little Jane, would he willingly scold her? Not to mention this, if little Jane really caused the sky to fall, my brother would still praise her for being amazing, then happily go to fix the sky for her."
"Can’t you keep your mouth shut while eating?" James shot a dark look at Peter, who then gestured to zip his lips and lowered his head to eat his meal.
The two children sat quietly as Aunt added food to their plates; they said a shy thank you and continued to eat their meal quietly.
If Aunt didn’t serve them, they just kept their heads down, eating only the white rice in their bowls, not daring to reach for any dishes on the table, not even the ones right in front of them.
Anyone with a discerning eye could tell that the two children felt very constrained while surrounded by a group of adults.
After eating, Old Master Black asked Aunt to pack some sweets for the two children and instructed Richard Zane to take them away, settling them in a luxury hotel not far from the old mansion, and requested Richard to stay at the hotel to look after the two children.
Once Uncle Zane drove away, the Old Master called James to the study for a conversation.
