Chapter 2406: Chapter 2414: Still Not the Same

Old Master Black got up and went upstairs, leaving James Black alone to sit there and think it through himself.

Upstairs, Clarke Miller crouched on the ground playing happily with the Great General’s son; his sister stood by his side, just standing there watching, not participating in the interaction with the puppy in the game.

"Old Sir." Aunt called out to Old Master Black once she saw him come upstairs.

Amelia Miller tugged at her brother’s clothes, then turned around, looking at Old Master Black, a bit at a loss.

"Should I go downstairs and pour a cup of tea for Mr. Black?" Aunt asked tentatively.

Old Master Black waved his hand, "Let him figure it out on his own downstairs."

"Old Sir, you should understand Mr. Black. In the past, when the young miss had her accident, Mr. Black was still a child. You lost your daughter, he lost his mother. The pain is the same for both of you, but, Old Master Black, you and Mr. Black are not the same."

Aunt had watched James Black grow up, so her heart ached a little more for him.

"In the past, you were already an adult. You had the ability to regulate your emotions when you encountered issues, but Mr. Black was still young. He didn’t have that ability. Ever since Mr. Black returned to the Black Family, he has always been silent and reserved. His personality is such that he never shares his innermost thoughts with others, keeping everything to himself. He was still so young, without the ability we adults have to self-regulate and process emotions, so perhaps none of us could truly understand what kind of hatred exists in his heart."

Aunt let out a long sigh, "It’s just like the issues little Jane faced in the Sampson Family back in the day. We saw it clearly, we were there with her, but still couldn’t replace her in experiencing the harm that the Sampson Family inflicted on her later. I think maybe little Jane can comprehend that kind of feeling, so she never tries to persuade Mr. Black and rather silently stands by him, supporting any decision he makes without a word. In this regard, Old Sir, you’ve not done as well as little Jane."

After Aunt finished speaking, she went downstairs. This time, it was Old Master Black’s turn to quietly stand there watching the two young siblings before him, who looked at him anxiously.

Since last night, for the first time, Old Master Black had a question in his heart.

Was bringing these two children back right or wrong?

Downstairs, the Great General noticed James Black sitting there seeming quite low and walked over to him, wagging his tail, nudging James Black’s palm with his face, and then barked a few times.

Seeing the Great General no longer standing in the corner, Peter Gingery glanced upstairs and then grinned, following behind the Great General’s rear towards James Black.

"Old man grows sentimental seeing the kids as he gets older," Peter Gingery said, sprawling in all directions on the sofa, "Brother, I’m on your side as is little Jane. If you don’t like those two kids, tonight I’ll secretly have someone send them back. Whether they live or die, it’s their fate, and we’re not responsible for any of it."

So from the start, Peter Gingery told the kids he wasn’t exactly a good person.

In this world, there’s no one who can be a truly pure good person.

The human heart doesn’t grow according to a textbook but develops bit by bit through various experiences over time.

Peter Gingery had seen James Black standing alone in the night on his mother’s memorial day, just standing there the whole night.

No one could substitute for James Black in experiencing that innate chill and sorrow.

So, since childhood, Brooke Black favored Jane Sampson and James Black, and Peter Gingery wasn’t bothered by it at all.
