Chapter 136: Chapter 136: Witchcraft

"Summer!" The moment Kenneth Yates saw Summer Lancaster, he felt his breath catch in his throat. He froze on the spot. The woman lying there was completely devoid of life, her face deathly pale, looking more like a doll at the mercy of others.

Kenneth Yates frantically ran over and grabbed Summer Lancaster’s hand, only to snatch it back in pain. The spot where he’d touched her had instantly turned black, as if burned. ’What’s going on? Why is she so hot?’ Kenneth was still reeling from this change when Summer’s white skirt began to sway gently. On the other side of the bed, Asher slowly rose. Because he was dressed in black and Kenneth’s attention was completely focused on Summer, Kenneth hadn’t noticed him at all.

Seeing the bloodthirsty look in Asher’s eyes, Kenneth hastily pulled Summer into his arms and away from him. No matter what, he couldn’t let Summer have any more contact with Asher. Now that he had found her, he would never let her be harmed again.

"What did you do to Summer?" Kenneth kept a safe distance from him, his dark pupils filled with nothing but hatred, reflecting a vision of pure, black desire.

This was destined to be a pitch-black nightmare!

The color had returned to Asher’s face, and the injuries he’d sustained earlier were already bandaged. He showed no sign of fatigue or pain.

"I merely gave her what she wanted. As for her choice to seal herself away, that was her decision. Perhaps she no longer wanted to struggle on the edge of the cliff—the cliff between you and Thea Shaw!" Asher’s lips curled into a cold smirk as he looked at them.

Kenneth glanced nervously at Summer. "What do you know?"

"So what if I know a few things about you two!" Asher’s gaze was sharp, fixed unblinkingly on Kenneth’s profile. He never thought the once-stoic man could become so contorted for another person. ’This is the real him,’ Asher thought. ’Unscrupulous, stopping at nothing to achieve his goals, even deception.’

"It was you. You’re the one who made her like this. Are you happy now, Kenneth Yates?!" Asher laughed theatrically, his eyes glowing with a red light that was especially glaring in the darkness.

"Asher, what is it you really want?" Kenneth, composed and calm, lifted his gaze to meet Asher’s with a cold stare. ’Heart’s Desire is just a front. His real goal is probably something more.’

"What do I want? Hah!" Asher reached out and toyed with the ring on Summer’s finger. "How about you trade places with her?" 𝗳𝚛𝚎𝚎𝘄𝕖𝕓𝕟𝕠𝚟𝚎𝕝.𝗰𝕠𝐦

Kenneth thought long and hard. ’Summer is in this state... I don’t know what Asher did to her, or why she won’t wake up. Did he use witchcraft on her? The only way now is to play along with Asher, get him to let his guard down.’

"Fine! Wake Summer up, and I’ll stay!" Kenneth threw the gun in his hand to Asher’s feet as a show of his sincerity.

Asher kicked Kenneth’s pistol over the edge, a satisfied smile spreading across his face. ’Yes, this is what I wanted. To have *him*.’ Asher raised his right hand and snapped his fingers. Summer’s lowered eyelids fluttered slightly. Gradually, her pupils reflected Kenneth’s anxious face.

"Summer! Summer!" Kenneth frantically helped Summer sit up, shaking her. But Summer didn’t respond at all. Her eyes were hollow, as if she couldn’t hear his words. Kenneth looked into her eyes, but her gaze wasn’t on him; it was fixed on some distant world.
