Chapter 125: Chapter 125: Bonds of a Past Life

The moment the door closed, an unsettling smile touched Asher’s lips. He turned to look out the window. ’I’ve been waiting for this day for a long time...’

He had met Kenneth Yates while they were studying abroad. They were both top students in the design department, but Kenneth had never actually designed anything himself. Instead, he simply used theory to guide everyone else.

Asher had designed plenty of jewelry, but whenever he presented his work to Kenneth, Kenneth would simply shake his head and walk away nonchalantly, never once acknowledging his skill. This piece, Heart’s Desire, was the very first piece of jewelry Kenneth had ever designed and produced. ’And I will have it, no matter the cost.’

"Spit it out!" Kenneth’s expression betrayed his displeasure. ’Our relationship used to be decent,’ he thought. ’Why is he so determined to be my enemy now?’

A breeze stirred the man’s silver hair, sweeping it over his right eye. When he turned back around, his features were clearly tinged with a hint of melancholy.

"Kenneth, I told you I would obtain the first thing you ever designed. Do you still not understand?" Asher stepped forward until he was right in front of him, staring into his eyes.

"And you think you can?" Kenneth leaned close to his ear, a victorious smile on his lips. ’Impossible. A man as unyielding as me would never hand over Heart’s Desire so easily, especially when it’s a testament to my love.’

Asher didn’t speak, his gaze tinged with sorrow. A gentle breeze swept his hair aside, revealing that his covered right eye had turned a pure, unadulterated blood-red. Startled, he quickly shielded his eye, but not before Kenneth had seen its crimson hue.

"You’re... you’re from the Brown Family?" Kenneth was stunned. Legend said the Brown Family had been wiped out. So why did Asher have red eyes? The members of the Brown Family were said to die from their own possessiveness, generation after generation. Whatever they desired, they would inevitably obtain. Their eyes turning red was the sign that they had locked onto their prey.

"Asher Brown. That’s my full name." Asher lowered his right hand; his eye had already returned to its tranquil, jade-green color. He had once been ashamed of his Brown Family blood, never wanting to be an outcast. He’d even grown his hair long on purpose just to hide his right eye. Because of it, more people than he could count had mocked and cursed him, calling him a monster.

But now, he felt incredibly honored to be a descendant of the Brown Family. He could understand his ancestors’ feelings, that all-consuming desire to possess something. Even if it led to an early grave, that period of glorious pursuit would be a badge of honor in a short life—a life without regrets.

Kenneth sneered. ’To think we were classmates for all those years, and I never once realized such a dangerous person was right by my side.’ 𝐟𝐫𝕖𝗲𝘄𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝕧𝐞𝚕.𝕔𝕠𝐦

"Even if you are a descendant of the Brown Family, my answer isn’t going to change. You think I’m afraid of some so-called curse? Please." With a defiant look, Kenneth swept Asher’s hair back, staring intently at his right eye. Asher’s eye abruptly turned pitch-black, and his expression became bone-chilling. But Kenneth only sneered, let the lock of hair fall, and strode out of the conference room.

Back in the room, Asher’s right eye remained a demonic black. It took him a long while to calm his state of mind. The one thing members of the Brown Family feared most was being unable to control their emotions. The moment they lost control, their eyes would shift color with their mood. Normally, Asher’s self-control was excellent, but whenever he faced Kenneth, he would spin out of control. He’d become completely irrational, for reasons even he couldn’t comprehend.

If one truly had to explain what lay between them, it could only be a bond from a past life...
