Chapter 623: Chapter 433 Failed Ambush_2
Because undead creatures had just appeared, Dong Tianyu, who wanted to keep a low profile, couldn’t purchase the corpses of undead creatures as he did at Saxon County Camp. It would definitely attract the attention of others, which didn’t align with his character. Therefore, in order to speed up the upgrade of the Cave, Dong Tianyu had to personally go out to hunt those undead creatures.
Unlike their predecessors who would burrow underground to hibernate during the day, the undead creatures that emerged from the hexagonal prism portal could move about normally during daylight, seemingly unaffected by any need to burrow or similar skills.
Furthermore, these undead creatures encountered a Wizard Wraith right after they walked out of the portal.
The Wizard Wraith wasn’t particularly perturbed by being suddenly transported to this plane since most of them, having been well-known mages before their transformation, paid little mind to the concept of traversal.
After all, once they became Wizard Wraiths, they needed to enter the Realm of the Undead and survive there for a long period before they could possibly participate in the wars against other planes of existence.
It was only at this moment that they had a chance to return to the world inhabited by normal creatures.
In fact, for the mages transformed into Wizard Wraiths, a certain emotion, trait, or desire in their spirit was usually amplified to no end.
However, after the transformation, their bodies, now that of Wizard Wraiths, were incapable of satisfying their inner desires, which led to their personalities becoming extreme and filled with a desire for destruction over time.
Because their own desires could not be satisfied, many Wizard Wraiths’ personalities became extremely unpleasant.
Dong Tianyu, using his Divine Sense, found a group of undead who, under the leadership of the Wizard Wraith, had started to cut down trees to build the fundamental Necromantic tower for the Undead Race.
As the most basic structure for the Undead Race, the Necromantic tower’s purpose was simple: once built, it would gradually corrode the vital essence of living creatures around it, converting it into dead energy, eventually draining all life force within its range and transforming it into an energy suitable for the activities of undead creatures.
Besides transforming the life force, the Necromantic tower could also strengthen the frequency between the surrounding undead and the plane of the Undead, allowing those in the Undead Race with summoning skills to cast spells at reduced mana cost and increase the number of undead summoned.
Watching the undead swiftly complete one Necromantic tower, and the second one nearing completion, Dong Tianyu’s face turned rather unsightly.
To be honest, even though Dong Tianyu wasn’t yet aware of the functionality of the completed Necromantic tower, the dark green light radiating from the tower instinctively repulsed him.
Confronted with this situation, not just Dong Tianyu, but any living creature stumbling upon it would naturally feel aversion to something that converts vitality into dead energy.
Just as Dong Tianyu was approaching the area, he suddenly felt a sharp sting.
Although the pain wasn’t too intense and was within Dong Tianyu’s tolerance, he could feel that the pain did not originate from his physical body, but was acting directly upon his soul.
Upon discovering this, Dong Tianyu didn’t withdraw his Divine Sense immediately but scanned the undead’s location even more carefully, eager to understand what had injured him.
When the second sting arrived, Dong Tianyu located the culprit attacking him—a Wizard Wraith hiding within the Necromantic tower.
As Dong Tianyu found the Wizard Wraith, the dark green gem on top of its staff had just changed color, and Dong Tianyu felt the attack on himself.
Having confirmed the attacker, Dong Tianyu didn’t approach but instead pulled out an RPG from his Storage Space and fired directly at the Necromantic tower where the Wizard Wraith was located.
Regarding this attack, whether the target was hit directly or if the fired missile was knocked down by the Wizard Wraith’s magic, Dong Tianyu was actually prepared to accept either outcome.
However, what Dong Tianyu never expected was that as the missile flew towards the Wizard Wraith on the Spirit Tower, suddenly a skeleton flew up from the ground and directly collided with the missile.
Due to the collision with the skeleton, the missile exploded prematurely and shattered the intercepting skeleton in mid-air.
Dong Tianyu watched his exploratory attack being instantly neutralized, and that too in such a manner that it virtually cost no magical power.
Dong Tianyu felt at a loss no matter how you looked at it, especially since most of the armories had been shut down, and even the few that remained open were producing meager amounts daily. The Imperial Court’s own guard hadn’t even reached the standard full complement of weapons and Ammunition, let alone those that ended up on the Black Market.
There’s a saying that war is fought with money, just like Jaden Leo in the Three Kingdoms, although White Horse was strong in righteousness, after Hugh cut off his supplies, he was still defeated miserably and ultimately had to flee in tears.
Dong Tianyu currently had enough Ammunition in Storage space for several saturation strikes, but using up resources in such a manner for simply ’cleaning’ the battlefield, though seemingly satisfying, was normally avoided since missiles could destroy valuable items belonging to the enemy; hence aerial support was rarely called for under normal circumstances.
The missile that Dong Tianyu launched took out only one skeleton, a trade-off that seemed highly unfavorable no matter how he looked at it.
While Dong Tianyu was still wrestling with whether the value of the exploded missile was justified, the explosion had already caused the Undead Creatures in the vicinity to become much more tense.
Unlike those dimwitted local skeletons that burrowed underground to hibernate at night, the Undead that came through the hexagonal portal, even if I didn’t know whether their potential was higher than the local Undead, were definitely far smarter by several degrees.
Looking at the weakest skeletons in the camp, all clad in armor, Dong Tianyu knew, without need for an actual test, that these skeletons were quite powerful.
But when he saw the appearance of all the Undead Creatures in the camp, Dong Tianyu had a sudden sense of déjà vu.
When Dong Tianyu tried to recall where he had seen these creatures before, he couldn’t help but complain, "Shouldn’t the Undead Disaster feature the Undead Race from Warcraft? Why is it the Undead Race from Heroes of Might and Magic?"
Compared to the Undead Race in Heroes of Might and Magic, Dong Tianyu would actually have preferred to face the Undead Creatures from Warcraft, because aside from the Frost Dragon, the rest seemed rather underwhelming.
However, the Undead Creatures from Heroes of Might and Magic were a different story, with none of them feeling like mere filler.
As Dong Tianyu was lost in his random thoughts, the Vampires in the camp transformed into Bats and flew towards his location.
Watching the swarm of Bats draw nearer, Dong Tianyu took out his seldom-used, BUG-level close-combat weapon from his Storage space.
When they saw Dong Tianyu produce a canister out of thin air and then ignite the burner on top of it, even the Undead remaining in the camp sensed the despair of the skeletons that were about to approach Dong Tianyu.
As the Flamethrower sprayed out fierce flames, many of the Vampires hadn’t even managed to shift back to their humanoid forms and were incinerated to ashes in their Bat shapes.
The other Vampires, although they managed to transform and escape being turned to ashes while Dong Tianyu was using the Flamethrower, found themselves on equal grounds under the fiery assault of the Flamethrower.
When Dong Tianyu turned off the Flamethrower, the obscured scene ahead finally became visible to everyone.
A large fan-shaped area in front of the Flamethrower’s nozzle was scorched to a crisp, and facing this situation, everyone felt astonished, for even Dong Tianyu himself had not realized the Flamethrower could be so powerful.
But who could have imagined, only after a real usage, that such an understated weapon could unleash such devastating lethality.
