Chapter 153: What Happened To You?

Chapter 153

’Dammit! They’re still coming... Couldn’t they just trust him and let him go. It’s not like he was even willingly running into danger. But at the same time he also understood their plight.

Still, Alex didn’t dare to slow down. Jade had already covered the large distance between them almost immediately. Now they were only about, how should he put it, thirty meters behind him.

Another use of her void step would easily cover that small distance and appear in front of him once more. So Alex decided to create another crimson Supernova.

Then without even looking back, he fired it behind him and repeatedly used Void Step to teleport out of the blast radius and create yet another wide gap between them.

This was how it went on for a while. Whenever he sensed the familiar presence of Jade and Doris closing the distance.... He would condense another Crimson Supernova and fire it backward.

And it actually helped by a lot. Each explosion forced another evasive teleport, buying him precious seconds. But whether those extra moments would be enough to reach his destination remained uncertain.

Jade and Doris were no easy opponents. With the two of them working together they might sooner or later figure out a way to catch him.

All he just hoped for now was that with all the repeated usage of their ability, Doris and Jade’s primordial essence will drain faster, giving him a chance to finally escape.

Finally, thirty minutes soon passed, but to Alex it felt exactly like thirty long grueling years. This journey had consumed most of his stamina and energy, luckily he had managed to escape by hastily using another strategy he had come up with mid chase.

Instead of his previous method which had been to launch a ball of Crimson Supernova whenever Jade and Doris got close, he had switched to a far better approach.

Which was, every time he used Void Step to teleport the maximum distance of twenty five meters forward, he immediately left behind another Crimson Supernova, which would immediately explode once it made contact with anything in its wake.

So by the time he had already covered something like seventy five meters, three sets of devastating explosions had already detonated across his escape route.

Alex continued moving and did not dare slow down until several more minutes had passed. Only after crossing several quiet streets and taking multiple turns did he finally allow himself to glance over his shoulder.

Great. There was nobody in sight. There was no beautiful woman continuously stepping out of thin air and no petite beauty with a pair of glowing light purple eyes with clock-like design, predicting every movement he made.

A tired sigh escaped his lips.

"... Looks like they must have finally stopped chasing me. Thank the heavens."

Relief slowly began to spread across his handsome face. After everything that had just happened over the last couple of minutes, it was honestly a miracle that he had managed to get away at all.

He most definitely knew that Jade and Doris wouldn’t willingly stop chasing him unless the obvious had happened. They had no other choice.

Their primordial essence was most likely running dangerously low after repeatedly using Void Step and Eye of Chronos for such a long period.

Yeah, those abilities were powerful and all that, but maintaining them continuously wasn’t exactly free.

"I’ll make sure to apologize properly to them after this is all over," Alex muttered under his breath.

Despite all the shitty things that had happened, he still couldn’t bring himself to blame them. After all, they genuinely believed they were protecting him.

Unfortunately, protecting him and allowing him to become strong enough to protect everyone else were two completely different things.

Kade family could decide to strike before the ultimatum expired, and if that happened before he broke through, he didn’t even want to imagine what would happen.

After calming his breathing slightly from all the intense activity, Alex resumed jogging toward his destination, while wishing that if the spatial storage space had been big enough to accommodate his Lamborghini Murciélago,

he would have been able to continue his journey toward either Olivia’s or Sofia’s houses without stressing himself more.

*****

Nearly a couple of minutes later, a familiar building finally appeared in front of him. Alex came to a stop, and bent over, placing both hands on his knees as large, deep breaths escaped his mouth.

Has... Haa...

His chest rose and fell rapidly while sweat dripped from his forehead onto the pavement below. The chase had really taken far more out of him than he had expected.

Between constantly using Void Step, repeatedly creating Crimson Supernovas, and sprinting almost non stop afterward, even his enhanced physique had reached its limits.

But at least, it was a good thing that at the end, he didn’t later purchase that portion of Body Recovery Water from the system shop. Those Desire Points would certainly come in handy for very important things.

Several long breaths later, his previously fast heartbeat that had been pounding like it wanted to come out, gradually settled.

’Ah. Now I feel much better...’

Straightening himself up, Alex looked toward the familiar house. In the end, he had chosen to come here instead of visiting Sofia.

There was one simple reason for that.

For Sofia, both of them had done the full deed, but in the case of Olivia it was not so.

That was because the time he had been intimate with Olivia and he was just about to enter her, everything had suddenly been interrupted by that damned traitor Zack returning home unexpectedly. All because of his shoes!

Thinking back to that day still made Alex click his tongue in annoyance. He was this close to finally fucking her. This close!

’What terrible timing... Couldn’t he have come after I had finished the deed with the his mom, Olivia?’

Sigh. Pushing those thoughts aside, he walked toward the front door and knocked, hoping she was around.

A few seconds later, footsteps sounded from inside, before the door then slowly opened. Standing there was Olivia. Her light brown hair was tied into a loose, messy bun, with several light strands framing her smooth forehead.

A pair of elegant reading glasses rested gently before her beautiful siren-like eyes, giving her an intellectual yet mature charm, along with the strong feeling of home.

For a brief moment, what looked like surprise flashed across her face. Then, almost immediately afterward, a trace of happiness appeared in her beautiful eyes.

"Alex?"

He smiled warmly and replied. "Yeah it’s me."

"What are you doing here? I thought you would be in school or something."

"Well I had no lectures today and I was nearby, so I thought hey, why don’t I stop by for a bit and check up on my best friend’s beautiful mom."

"Y-you smooth talker. Why don’t you come in, dear." Without hesitation, Olivia stepped aside and gestured for him to pass.

Alex nodded gratefully before entering. Almost immediately, the scent of the house, mixed with her body scent and shampoo greeted him.

Nothing has really changed since the last time he visited here. Everything looked clean, organized, and carried the comforting warmth of this woman right here who genuinely cared about her home.

Olivia closed the door behind him before leading him toward the spacious living room.

"Please, have a seat."

Alex agreed and sat down on the soft, comfy couch, enjoying its softness.

Looking around, he noticed several important looking documents spread across the nearby dining table alongside a laptop that was still switched on.

He smiled and said calmly.

"I hope I’m not disturbing you."

Olivia shook her head almost immediately.

"Not at all. I was just finishing a little work. It can always wait till later."

Her eyes then carefully examined his slightly disheveled appearance now that he was inside.

"What happened to you? You look exhausted. Were you running?"

Alex chuckled awkwardly and replied.

"I guess you could say that."

Concern appeared on Olivia’s face.

"Were you pursued by someone or something?"

"Not by someone, but by a nut Job’s Tibetan mastiff. I was lucky to escape the damn bastard."

"Oh my goodness, that sounded really dangerous! Are you okay, did it bite you? Maybe I should take you to the hospital Incase of rabies." she hurriedly said while checking his body for any injury.

"Relax, Olivia, I’m fine. It did not bite me, okay."

Olivia breathed a sigh of relief before going silent with a faint blush on her cheeks. Then she suddenly said,

"Y-you must be thirsty from all the running. I’ll go get you some water."

Before Alex could even think of saying anything, she had already disappeared into the kitchen. A minute later, she appeared carrying a tall glass filled with cold water. The one with small ice cubes.

"Here."

Alex accepted it with genuine gratitude. "Thanks."

He raised the glass and drank almost the entire thing in one go. The cold water was a lifesaver. It immediately eased the dryness in his throat. After finishing the glass of water, he released a satisfied breath of relief.

"Now that’s what I’m talking about. Cold water on a hot day really hits the spot."

Olivia smiled softly and asked.

"Do you want another glass?"

Alex shook his head, saying,

"No. One is enough for me."

She nodded before sitting across from him. After a brief moment of silent, Alex casually asked,

"What about Zack? Is he still at the hospital?"

Olivia nodded sadly.

"Yes. But the good news is that the doctor said he’ll most likely be discharged tomorrow."

"I only came back home to finish a few things, prepare the meals the doctor recommended for him, and then I’ll head back."

Alex listened quietly. That schedule sounded exhausting. Working while constantly travelling between home and the hospital wasn’t easy for anyone.

He sighed softly.

"That means things must be pretty stressful for you."

Olivia gave a helpless smile.

"Yes. It has been a little stressful."

Alex looked at her sincerely and said.

"You really are an amazing mother."

The small compliment caught her completely off guard, causing a faint red blush to slowly spread across her cheeks. She lowered her gaze for a second before smiling shyly.
