Chapter 30: Baron Fredrick
In a small town near the borders of Aragon, close to the forest, a man could be seen running through the night streets.
There were hardly any lights on the street. The man had to use a crystal lamp to see the way. The lamp had two wooden square bases and four panes of glass covering all sides, with a crystal inside emitting light.
The man was dressed in a full ankle-length black robe that had a hood, but he didn't put it on. His feet stepped in water puddles on the cold stone roads, splashing water in all directions as he ran.
His breaths were heavy, but he still kept running. He went through the streets as fast as he could. After a while, a building came into view.
It was a small manor, with light crystals along the metal fence and on the building. The manor was beautiful even at night. It gave off the aura of luxury—anyone who saw it would instantly know that this was the home of a wealthy person.
The man reached the gates of this manor. He banged on it, and after a few seconds, a guard walked to the door. Dressed in simple steel armor and holding a spear in hand, he looked at the man and asked,
"What business do you have here now?"

"Tell the Baron I need to speak with him. It is a matter of urgency—one that could make him a very rich man," the man spoke with eagerness.
The guard was hesitant to let the man in, but he had seen this man here before, and he also understood how much his master loved anything that could give him more money.
"Fine, follow me," the guard said and opened the gate for the man. The man walked in and was about to head toward the manor, but to their surprise, they saw the door of the manor open, and the Baron walked out fully dressed.
He was a middle-aged man, but he was already greying. He had a neatly trimmed beard that also had grey in it as well.
He covered himself with a very large coat that had fur at the collars and sleeves. When the Baron laid eyes on the man that had come, he paused.
"Robert, why have you come here this night? I have something I am in a rush to do right now. There has been a treasure found," the Baron said.
"Baron Fredrick, that is exactly the reason I have come here," Robert said.
"Hmm, I see. Then I guess you have more details about it. I was just about to go and find out more about the treasure, but since you are here, follow me inside. Let us talk," Fredrick said and went back into the house.
Robert followed behind quickly and entered the house. The interior of the manor was grand but practical. The entrance hall had a well-polished and beautiful marble floor.
A red carpet lay there, leading to a wide staircase made of dark wood. Light crystals were mounted along the walls on golden-painted sconces, illuminating the house in a soft, eerie glow.
To the left of the hall, there was an open archway that led into a lavish parlor, with velvet chairs set around the fireplace, and a beautiful, large crystal chandelier hung from the ceiling.
To the right was a dining hall, with a well-polished long dark wood table. The table was surrounded by high-back chairs with intricate designs on them. A large cabinet against the wall displayed fine porcelain and silverware.
The smell of burning wood and aged leather filled the manor. From looks alone, one could easily tell that the Baron was a man of class and riches.
Fredrick led Robert to the parlor. He sat down on one of the velvet chairs and then stretched out his hand, signaling Robert to sit down.
After he sat down, he turned his body to face the Baron. "Baron, it all happened all of a sudden in the forest.
A treasure must have definitely been born tonight—a spirit treasure, to add. The energy spiked in the forest, unlike anything that we have ever seen before.
I had to rush down here to tell you because with the amount of spirit energy that was emitted, not only will we have to fight off the monsters in the forest for it, but the king and other nobles may have eyes on it.
But if we are able to get it first, we will be able to gain a lot of rewards from the king himself by trading it," Robert said.
Fredrick leaned back into the chair. He closed his eyes for some seconds and then opened them and spoke. "It is true that we can't keep a treasure of this magnitude for ourselves. The king will definitely want that treasure.
So we will have to milk it as best as we can. Tell Captain Lewis he should take his best men and move as fast as he can.
They should head to the location of the treasure and do anything in their power to get it, even if it means using some of their most expensive and treasured resources.
We can't lose out on this treasure. The wealth it will bring to me is massive. If you perform well, you will get that recommendation to send your son to the royal guard training academy and also a good reward.
So don't let me down, Robert. Do a good job," Fredrick said.
Robert got up immediately when he heard what he could gain. He bowed. "I'll get to it right away, Baron," the man said and walked away. He headed out, picking his lamp from beside the chair before he left.
