Chapter 18: Goblins versus the five men party
Amber helped Aric get up the tree. They went as high as possible so that they would get a vantage point and see what was happening.
They found a branch that offered them a clear sight of what was happening. There were about five humans—three guys and two ladies.
One of the guys, seemingly the leader, had on stainless steel armor and wielded a long sword. He had long black flowing hair and looked no more than thirty.
The next was the woman next to him. She also had armor on and used a greatsword. To Aric's surprise, she had a small build, yet she swung the blade without any issues.
The third man was dressed in mage garments. He held a staff and was busy conjuring fireballs, his mouth moving rapidly as he cast spells.
The second lady was also a mage, and she used lightning spells repeatedly, bombarding the goblins. The final person was a man who used a spear and a shield to fight.
The goblins, on the other hand, were large in number, pouring out of a deep hole in a large tree. Standing at just five feet or less, they carried rusted weapons and bats, raging as they attacked the humans.
The humans held up a fine formation, with the two sword-wielding people in front, the spearman at the center, and the mages at the back.
The spearman used his spear and shield to block and take out any goblin that got through the first two so they could not reach the mages.
It was a simple yet functional formation, allowing them to take out the goblins steadily. Aric became intrigued by this fight, but before he got too engrossed, he decided to check them out with appraisal.
As he thought about this, he remembered that he had not used Appraisal on Ariel. He didn't know her strength at all. He decided to do that later. For now, he would focus on the humans down there.
He looked at the man who seemed to be the leader and used Appraisal on him.

Aric read through everything. He was shocked that this man only had such stats at level nine. These stats were fairly lower than Aric's stats, and he was the one leading the team?
Was this man just weak, or did Aric not have a good understanding of the strength of this world yet?
He turned to his side and decided to test it on Ariel just to see and compare.

Aric's jaw was left open when he saw her stats. She was leagues ahead of him. They were not even close—she could kill him at any time if she wanted.
He took a deep breath and thanked the stars that he was with her and not against her. That would have been a real pain in the ass.
He tore his eyes away from Ariel and focused on the sword-swinging lady. She seemed like she would be stronger than the man.

Just as he had speculated, she was stronger. Though some of her other stats fell short, she was still quite strong. But when compared to Ariel, she would get tracked in an instant.
Aric decided to check the stats of the others since he had already started. He wanted to get the total strength of this party, so he checked the spearman next.

His stats were heavily similar to those of their leader, though with some differences due to their fighting styles, but it was still close.
Aric then looked at the fire-hurling mage. He used Appraisal on the man to get his stats as well.

When Silva saw the stats, he finally understood why they were protecting the mages. The mages were weak physically. That was basically Aric's weak stats when he arrived. Luckily, their mana and intelligence covered the gap.
The last on the list was the lady.

She was by far the weakest physically, but her mana, intelligence, and charisma were quite high.
Now that he had finished looking at their stats, he understood the strength of this party. Their dynamic was pretty good, as they actually covered each other's backs and weaknesses.
Aric decided to take a look at the goblins and see their strength to better understand this matchup. He picked a random goblin and used Appraisal on it.

"That's pretty weak. How were they able to kidnap a full human?" Aric asked himself. He shook the thought out. It was not time for that.

"So, what are we going to do?" Ariel asked.
"Hmm, I have an idea. I want to reason with those humans. I also plan to take a few of those goblins. They might be weak, but they could still help."
"What do you want to reason with the humans for?" Ariel asked. She had a frown on her face, showing how much she disliked humans.
"I understand your hate toward them. I don't like them either, but I just want to exchange a few words with them.
See where they are from and also ask them to leave the goblins. I will be needing the goblins, and from the looks of it, they have already killed quite a number. I don't want any more dead," Aric explained.
She nodded in response, not having any issue with what he said.
"Good. Alright, I'll need you to watch my back. My life is pretty much in your hands," he said with a smile and jumped down.
Immediately after she heard those words, she felt the urge to really protect him. She pulled her bow, set an arrow, and got ready for anything.
