Chapter 91: Into Hell. Part-2.
"You are not even S rank yet and... you are already able to influence the space-time fabric to this extent!? Unbelievable!"
Xinran couldn’t help feeling shocked by Zephyr’s insane growth speed.
The last time they fought, Zephyr couldn’t even do a decent attack and barely even managed to land one or two attacks on her that did nothing at all.
But today, things were different.
In less than a week, Zephyr had grown to the extent where his attack power went from not being able to do anything to actually being able to put a small scratch!
This was massive progress! Moreover, Zephyr had done it in just a matter of a few days! His growth speed was insanely fast!
’So this is what they call Supreme Talent... if not for the fact that I am already strong, he would have left me behind in dust with his insane growth rate...’
’How terrifying...’
Although Xinran felt shocked by Zephyr’s growth speed and immense potential, she was happy that she had found Zephyr when he was still a rough gem.
’Establishing a friendship before he soars into the sky is a indeed a better choice...’
Xinran was not the type who would try to sabotage the growth of a genius just because she felt threatened by him.
Maybe in the past, when the Jauregia empire still existed, she would have tried to deal with Zephyr for the sake of preventing future chaos and troubles, but today, the situation was completely different.
Not only did the Jauregia empire no longer exist, life on the entire continent was already on the verge of collapse.
The empire had become a sea of ash where nothing grew and nothing could survive without being extraordinary by itself.
In this destroyed land, it was actually a good thing that a new talented and powerful individual like Zephyr had appeared.
Once he grows up, Xinran will have the opportunity to ask for his cooperation in many scenarios in the future just like today.
So, instead of blocking Zephyr’s path forward, Xinran was more inclined to help him go even further.
"From the looks of it, the space affinity that you awakened is very strong... this is the first time I have ever seen someone with such a powerful spatial affinity so I don’t know what the power standard is..."
"But I must say, you are very strong... much stronger than any space-time affinity user I have seen before... Also, that martial art technique is incredible. What is it called?"
Hearing that question, Zephyr smiled lightly and replied calmly,
"Shattered Firmament Martial Art, something I got during my earlier adventures!"
"Although I had it for quite some time, I only managed to actually learn it after awakening mana."
Whenever Zephyr used his skills, he only shouted their name inside his own mind, so Xinran had no way of knowing what his martial arts technique was called.
This technique was something he got from the system, so he had to make an excuse of where he had gotten it from to not only deceive Xinran but also the viewers who had been watching all along.
"Shattered Firmament? That sounds quite domineering... but seeing that it involves usage of space affinity, this name indeed seems reasonable..."
"As far as I know... the firmament likely refers to the barrier in the sky, so perhaps this art is a key to opening a way out of the barrier?... how interesting..."
Originally Xinran was still just speculating if she should support Zephyr’s growth, but now that she had found out about the peculiarity of his combat art and his powerful spatial affinity, she firmly believed that helping Zephyr become stronger was a must.
’Maybe in the future... if this place really becomes completely inhabitable due to miasma... With Zephyr’s help I can open a way out through the sky and leave this place completely...’
"By the way... you are quite fast at reacting; you have a really powerful intuition... maybe even more powerful than me."
Even back when the two of them were fighting for the first time, Xinran was shocked when Zephyr had managed to land an attack on her despite the fact that the rank difference between the two of them was simply too high to ignore.
Although her strength has declined from Rank ’S’ to ’A+’ due to decades of malnutrition and various other reasons, she was still insanely strong when compared to an ordinary person without mana.
Zephyr only awakened mana when he took the trial of the obelisk; during the first battle he had no mana, and he still managed to land a blow or two on Xinran.
Although those attacks did nothing to Xinran, it was already an insane feat for an unawakened being to achieve something like that.
’The more I observe him, the more interesting he seems...’
Feeling Xinran’s overbearing gaze, Zephyr replied calmly,
"That’s a secret; you can’t possibly be expecting me to tell you about my secret abilities, right?"
At those words, Xinran nodded her head; she herself had a secret power that she didn’t often like to use unless pushed to the corner, thus she could understand Zephyr’s reason to hide his own powers.
"Let’s go; we have already wasted enough time on these weird creatures... let’s hope that similar ones do not appear again..."
Zephyr also nodded his head as he walked forward with Xinran,
"Yeah... I have a feeling that I do not want to know about the origin of these weird monsters... the secrets behind their existence might not be pleasant..."
Zephyr could actually already somewhat guess that those weird creatures were likely created by miasmic corruption or the Vessel of corrosion using living people and transplanting their souls into one single body.
It seemed hard to believe, but miasma is an extremely powerful force, and just like mana, it can do almost anything if it wants; even manipulating the powers of the ’Laws’ of the ’Universe’ is not that difficult for it.
"Hey... it may seem presumptuous of me, but can you tell me how the flourishing nation of Jauregia, which had both magic and advanced technology, ended up the way it has now...?"
"What is the ’Sea of Ash’? Where did it come from?"
These three questions had been bugging Zephyr for a long long time now.
Ever since he came to this world, he has wanted to find out about the origin of this mysterious Desert of Ash.
Originally, he had no way of finding the truth, but now that he had a cooperation agreement going on with Xinran, it was possible to find out answers to his questions from Xinran.
"That... Sigh... I knew you would ask this sooner or later but.... Sigh..."
A look of helplessness appeared on Xinran’s face after hearing Zephyr’s questions, and she could not help but shake her head in dismay.
"Some things are better left unknown... There is knowledge in this world that can harm you and corrupt you just by knowing about it..."
"Just knowing this kind of knowledge will make you a high-risk target of miasma and you would be living a life of constant running like me..."
"It is better if you don’t know about this kind of knowledge..."
Xinran looked into Zephyr’s eyes and spoke in a rare solemn voice.
"Become an S-ranker first, then I can tell you about all this without worries..."
Hearing those words, Zephyr felt quite helpless,
"Sigh... S rank?... I am not even half-way there yet; It might take years to reach it at my current pace, sigh..."
Xinran could not help but smile wryly at Zephyr’s careless words.
"Being able to reach rank S in just a few years is already an insanely amazing feat, you know? It took me almost a decade to do the same, you know?"
"Back in the days when the Jauregia Empire was at its peak, rank S was revered by people like they were divine beings!"
"S-rankers are considered the absolute ceiling of individual combat power in this world, you know? If you can reach it in just a few years, you would be the most talented individual to have ever been born in this world!"
Hearing those words, Zephyr asked in confusion,
"Is there nothing above S rank? Is reaching rank S really the end of individual combat power?"
Xinran shrugged her shoulders at those questions and replied in an uncertain tone,
"I don’t know, I have never met anyone or anything stronger than rank S... I have no idea if anything really exists above the boundary of this rank..."
"But I must say, back when I was at the peak of rank S, I did vaguely feel the existence of a higher realm, but then all the things happened and now my power has declined..."
"That’s also why I am so eager to drink your blood, you know... I can likely recover to my peak again if I eat you, hehe~"
Hearing those words, Zephyr replied calmly,
"Hmph, no way am I letting you make me your puppet, keep dreaming!"
Xinran pouted at those word and replied in a resentful tone,
"Hmph! You are so stingy; letting me have one bite won’t hurt, hmph! Meanie!"
