Chapter 90: Into Hell. Part-1.

After one night of rest, the duo immediately set off on their journey without delay.

Passing through the mining tunnels, Xinran led Zephyr to a dead end, then used mana to dispel an illusion placed on the ground.

Once the illusion was dispelled, a heavy circular metallic lid appeared on the ground that seemed like it was an entrance to an underground bunker.

Opening the lid with a float spell, Xinran jumped inside decisively with practiced ease.

Seeing her enter, Zephyr didn’t hesitate either and jumped inside right after her.

To his surprise, the sewer entrance was several meters deep, and there was actually a rusty metal stair embedded in the wall that could be used to climb up or down.

’Well, jumping down is indeed much faster and with our physique there’s no need to worry about fall damage...’

After a momentary thought, Zephyr didn’t waste time and quickly followed in Xinran’s footsteps.

’It’s much cleaner than I expected...’

Zephyr was expecting the sewers to be filled with horrible stench and rotting garbage, but to his surprise, the place was surprisingly clean, which was odd in itself.

Thinking about this odd scene, Zephyr raised the question in front of Xinran, to which she replied in a complicated tone.

"I have travelled through this passage quite a few times, and since I already knew that I would be using it frequently, I used cleaning spells and purification spells to make this sewer easier to traverse."

Xinran’s words dispelled Zephyr’s doubts, and he breathed a sigh of relief, but then he suddenly imagined the scene of a high and mighty vampire princess cleaning the sewers and almost burst out laughing.

Thankfully, he had high self-control over his body, and he managed to hold back his laugh; otherwise, he felt that Xinran would have definitely been angry.

After staying with Xinran for several days, Zephyr had already realized that the identity and pride of being a vampire princess were extremely important to Xinran.

Although she often behaved like a rogue and flirted with him like a scoundrel, she still cared about her status of being a princess of a nation despite the fact that the nation she was a princess of didn’t even exist anymore.

’Well, everyone has their own anchors that help them keep their sanity intact...’

’I am using my efforts of trying to find the mysteries of this world and a way back as a firm anchor to hold my sanity in this world too, so I am in no place to criticize her for doing the same...’

’Maybe the reason why she’s been infiltrating the capital city for so long is because she wants to find a way to save this dead nation and revive it again?’

Zephyr had seen enough drama and movies to know that ’Hope’ was an extremely powerful emotion.

Even if Xinran already knew that her nation had long been destroyed, there was no reason for her not to ’Hope’ for its revival.

Maybe that ’Hope’ was the reason why she was still maintaining her sanity.

Various speculations revolved in Zephyr’s mind, but he didn’t speak them out, as he didn’t want to appear rude by trying to meddle in her business.

*OIIIIIIIIEEEEEEEIIIIIEEEEE!!!* *OIIIIEEEEEEIIIIIIEEEEE!!!*

Just when Zephyr was busy thinking about various things in his mind while walking through the empty cylindrical sewer passages, an extremely loud and weird noise assaulted his ears and almost broke his mental defenses!

Thankfully, his ’Perfect Combat Sense’ activated almost instantly, and he reacted quickly.

The very moment the voice tried to assault his mind, Zephyr immediately used mana and wind elementals to block his ears and protect his mind.

Although the mental assault was stopped by mana, Zephyr could still hear the loud voice, which made him feel extremely uncomfortable just from hearing it!

’What in the actual f*ck!?’

Goosebumps appeared all over Zephyr’s body as if his body were telling him that there was something wrong with that voice and he shouldn’t approach the source of the voice.

Unfortunately, according to the maps and routes that Xinran had shared, they could not avoid the source of this voice, as it seemed to be coming from the place where they had to go to pass through to the next area!

"What is this voice?... The last time I came here... I thoroughly cleaned up all monsters residing in the sewers... Could it be that a new monster has settled down in the sewers recently?"

Even Xinran was unfamiliar with the voice, as she had never heard such a weird sound from any monster she had met before.

"Is it a mutated mind corrupter? But those fellows shouldn’t be existing in a place like this... no wait, we have already met quite a few odd creatures in this journey that shouldn’t be here but still are..."

"It won’t be surprising that there are more such creatures residing in the sewers..."

As if fed up with this constant interruption in the journey, a hint of annoyance and anger flashed in Xinran’s eyes; she didn’t want to waste too much time or mana on small fries, yet they kept appearing one after another as if to mock her.

This situation was definitely abnormal and extremely annoying from Xinran’s point of view.

"Let’s go; we can’t take a detour, the sewers of the city are not built as complex as the mines so there are less routes and options, if we encounter a monster, we can only confront it head on..."

Zephyr nodded his head and followed behind Xinran while trying to keep his footsteps as silent as possible.

Soon enough the duo reached the source of the strange voice near an intersection where the four sewer passages were connected to each other.

The intersection was a wide open area that seemed to resemble a medium-sized room.

But unlike the previous clean sewer passage, the room was filled with dark black filth, and weird white teeth-like structures were ground everywhere on the ground and the walls.

A poisonous dark fog lingered in the air, and most eery of all, there were dozens of humanoid creatures hanging upside down from the ceiling.

Although those creatures had humanoid body shapes, they didn’t seem human from any angle, as their entire bodies were nothing but hundreds of thousands of mouths!

The skin, the face, the legs, the arms, every inch of the creature’s body was covered in mouths of different shapes and sizes.

It was as if someone had cut other people’s mouths and sutured them all on a single person’s body; moreover, each mouth was either screaming or making some kind of weird, inhumane voice.

All these voices carried miasmic corruption, and when combined together, they could produce powerful miasmic mental shockwaves!

Just looking at those horrible creatures was enough to make a person feel uncomfortable, let alone those disturbing voices.

*AHHHHH!!!!* *I ATE IT!!! HEHE!!!* *I AM DYING!!!* *MONSTER MEAT EAT!!! EAT!!!* *MY CHILD AHHH!!!! I ATE MY CHILD!!!! AHHHH!!!!* *I KILLED MY MOM!!!!*

Each mouth was making a different kind of noise, and when combined together, it seemed like thousands of people were screaming at the same time.

"Wha-what is that creature!?"

This time even Xinran was shocked, as even she had never seen that kind of weird creature before in her life.

She had wandered in the Sea of Ash for decades and had seen many types of bizarre monstrosity, but even she had never seen such a weird organism before!

"Its soul... it has hundreds of small broken souls inside of it!? This is inhumane torture!"

"If two souls exist in the same body, they will collide with each other and cause damage to each other. Damage to one’s soul is more painful than even the worst kind of physical torture or punishment!"

"This creature has so many souls inside of it... just imagining the pain and horror contained inside of that body..."

Xinran did not have words to describe her shock in that moment.

Even though she considered herself quite cruel, when compared to this kind of torture, she was just an innocent child!

She had at most turned people into her puppets and used them to kill their own family, but even that kind of thing did not compare to this inhumane torture.

"Thousands of Sea of consciousness colliding with each other and transmitting each other’s pain to everyone else like a contagious disease affecting the mind directly..."

"What kind of... what..."

Xinran could not even find words to describe this bizarre horror; that kind of pain and suffering was beyond human comprehension.

Just when Xinran was feeling shocked, the strange creatures suddenly stopped screaming all of a sudden, and all of them turned towards Xinran and Zephyr, who were standing far away at the same time.

’Sh*t! They noticed us!’

Almost as if by instinct, Zephyr reacted instantly and, with the help of his ’Perfect Combat Sense,’ easily derived the best counter to the possible mind and sound attack!

[Shattered Firmament Martial Art: Space Type: Deity Shattering Fist!]

In a matter of a second, Zephyr took his stance and, using the space itself as his attack medium, punched in the direction of the monsters with all his might!

The spacetime fabric suddenly twisted uncontrollably, and spatial fluctuation went haywire, sending a powerful spatial shockwave in the direction of the monsters.

*BOOOOOOOM!!!!!!!!* *CRAAACKKK!!!*

A powerful explosion rang out in the area as a small crack appeared in the space-time fabric, causing all the monsters in the area to be completely erased from existence!

Seeing this scene, Xinran’s jaw almost fell on the floor from sheer shock!
