Chapter 865: Chapter 454: Chance Encounter with Beckett Wright (Part 2)
--------------------------------Divider----------------------------------------
Avery Jane thought about buying some things at the supermarket after getting off work. Recently, she’d been walking home since it was quite close to the company, treating it as a form of exercise.
The bodyguards in black not far behind her always maintained a certain distance, ensuring they were not too close to make her uncomfortable, yet never too far, ready to rush in front of her to block any danger at any moment.
Although she didn’t like it, she understood that Joshua Hughes had a special identity, and a man as wealthy as him would surely have enemies, so she acquiesced to having bodyguards follow her.
The supermarket in this area stocked items with steep prices. All sorts of delicious foods from around the world and some everyday products were displayed here. After Emma White visited with her once, she never came back; a single piece of cheese could eat up half of her monthly salary, making her exclaim she couldn’t take it. In truth, Avery didn’t buy much; she just enjoyed casually strolling, feeling happy seeing all the fresh, colorful fruits and vegetables. Besides, there were fewer people here, and she didn’t like noisy places.
The cherries, freshly in season, all had a reddish-purple hue. Avery picked up a small box, placed it in the tiny shopping cart, and then looked down to spot strawberries she loved eating, so bright red they made her eyes light up. Just as she was about to reach out, someone exclaimed in surprise: "Avery Jane?"
Avery turned around. Behind her stood a tall, thin man, gentle and handsome, looking at her with eyes full of surprise, as if he had found a treasure.
Beckett Wright thought he must be mistaken, but no, it was Avery Jane, her slender figure, long black hair, and a face as beautiful as the bright moon. Just as he was about to take a step forward, two tall, strong men blocked his path. One of them pressed against his chest to prevent him from getting closer, eyes fierce.
"Avery Jane, it’s me, I’m Beckett. What’s wrong with you?" He couldn’t be mistaken; this woman had appeared in his dreams countless times. She stood right in front of him, her appearances and disappearances always so astonishing.
"Do I know you?" Avery took a step back. Joshua had once told her that because of his identity, even if their marriage was concealed, someone might know about it. After all, there’s no impenetrable wall in this world, so she had to be especially cautious when approached by strangers; otherwise, she could easily encounter danger.
What happened to her? Beckett knew she had returned to Joshua Hughes, as Nora Thompson had told him, though what exactly had happened, even Nora didn’t know, as she hadn’t had the chance to get close to Avery anymore. Now it seemed Avery had forgotten the past, not even remembering him.
"Of course, Avery Jane, we’re good friends, we even worked together. Did you forget?" Beckett took out his phone, flipping through the photo album, filled with photos of them shooting advertisements, eager to show them to Avery, but the man in black intercepted him. "Please leave immediately." Then he turned to Avery and said, "Miss Jane, it’s late now, you should go home." His words were polite, yet upon closer examination, they were cold and devoid of any warmth.
Beckett extended his phone, the screen showing him and her standing against a white backdrop. Though they weren’t standing very close, nor had intimate poses, they both smiled contently. Avery looked at the photo, her heart skipping a beat, confident she knew him. Indeed, she wouldn’t take photos with a stranger. He must be her friend, and Avery was thrilled to the point of madness, like finding someone in a vast sea of people to talk about the past. She desperately wanted to know everything about her past; without any memory of it, she felt like a fool, more accurately like a newborn baby, urgently wanting to know how she lived before.......
"Don’t be like this, I’m sure I know him." Avery frowned. What was this? Did she not even have the right to talk to a friend? Ignoring the two men’s obstruction, she walked up to Beckett. "We really know each other?" Her eyes sparkled, like the brightest star in the sky.
"Of course, you’re the spokesperson for my jewelry." Beckett eagerly tapped the photo album on his phone, filled with stunningly beautiful photos, even though most were side shots or starting from just the mouth, none were front views, but Avery knew it was her. Did she also shoot commercials? Joshua never told her any of this.
"So, your name is Beckett Wright, right? Do you have time? Can I treat you to dinner? I really want to know about my past. Don’t laugh at me; after I fell, I forgot everything." Avery embarrassedly stuck out her tongue, feeling ashamed to discuss it.
"Of course, but allow me to treat instead." Beckett’s face carried a gentle smile, certainly willing. No matter what she became, he hoped she was doing well and wanted to help her in any way, hoping to be the one to protect her. Even if he couldn’t have her love, just being a friend was enough. Should she find out his love would burden her, he’d choose to hide it forever, existing only as a friend.
The men in black exchanged glances swiftly, with one sticking close behind her while the other stood back slightly, picking up the phone and dialing out.......
