Chapter 137: The Ruling Oracle

Mira met with the cubs. She gave them their prizes and ensured all of them went back to their homes safely. After their whole adventure today, those cheetah cubs had officially become part of her little army.

They just needed to be trained to not think outside the box when it came to her, because ain’t no way one of them asked for more when she told him to lure her sister away.

Mira let out a sigh, she was alone in Ming Tao’s chambers.

After escorting each cheetah cub to their homes, she met with the adults to give them a share of the meat. Mira promised to make more tomorrow to satisfy the children’s needs but she promised to do so after the swim lessons.

And then, there was the last meeting with the cub. As Mira expected, he was safe and Hye Yang did not do anything to harm him but she also gave him a concoction.

It was firmly tied in two wooden bowls which served as the plate and a cover. It was tied at the center and looked like a large coconut. The fur tied around it smelled of fox and that was enough proof Mira needed to prove Hye Yang carried this thing that was banned in the beast world around with her.

It would not aid Hye Yang’s cause at all. Mira grinned. She did not open the plate to look inside but it has the same smell as the one in the pride land so she was sure it was made of the same thing.

Mira bent lower and dig the bowl housing the concoction underneath the bed then covered it with a lot of fur to hide it.

The cheetah home looked way too plain compared to modern houses to have a lot of hiding spots and Mira was sure this one would do.

She took a deep breath in then exhaled. She was all alone, again. No one was here to keep the other side of the massive bed warm and it seemed like she would be sleeping alone tonight again. Mira did not like this. She did not like getting used to not having company and she needed Ming Tao the most now.

No matter how much she thought about it, she could not understand her encounter with him in Hye Yang’s hide out. He was calm and seemed to protect her yet there was this contrast to his calmness. He seemed to care yet he also seemed indifferent.

Mira stood up then sat on her side of the bed. If she tried to understand her skinny cat, she feared she would run mad. She just chose to trust whatever it was that he was doing. Maybe he needed her to hang on. Maybe he was only doing this to trap her sister.

Mira fell her torso flat on the bed. The fur was a comfort to her aching body she did not know she needed. Sleep immediately dragged her eyelids.

Tomorrow, she would fight for her sister to be away from the cheetah clan but for now, she needed rest.

Mira tucked her legs on the bed and hid her body in a fur sheet. A thought made her smile. Tomorrow, her sister would probably be too occupied with passing manure all over the cheetah clan to even fight back, and that was something Mira looked forward to seeing.

The banishment of Hye Yang from every beast clan. . . . And for good.

Her eyes drifted into a complete shut.

*

The sound of feet hitting the ground violently woke Mira up first.

She could not understand why there was so much noise so early in the morning. It had never happened before.

Mira’s brows furrowed. She did not want to open her eyes nor disrupt her sleep. As far as she was concerned, it was way too early to get up from the comfort of her bed.

Mira turned to the other side of the bed, she used the fur sheet to cover her entire face, hiding underneath as she used her arm to cover her ears.

The stamping of feet on the ground did not stop, in fact, it resounded louder with every second.

It felt like. . . it was headed her way.

A loud bang on the door made Mira’s body shudder with fear. She jerked her body up the bed to sit up as she stared at where the noise came from.

Someone banged repeatedly on the door. That was so disturbing and disrespectful. Who the fuck would march into the Mighty cheetah’s home and knock so violently on his door like he was some peasant?

Ming Tao would not have any of this nuisance if he was in this room, sadly, he was not.

"What do you want?!" Mira barked. Her rage was obvious in her tone. Whoever that was had just disturbed a much needed sleep.

"We are warriors of the Ruling Oracle."

Mira felt her heart beat violently in her chest at the cold hard voice of the person behind that door. It was a man. And did she just hear ’Ruling Oracle’?

Jia Hao went there to meet them. Had something gone wrong? Was he safe? Did they need the other rulers of the beast world to aid with whatever it was and was that why they raided Ming Tao’s home?

Mira swallowed, she was unsure of what to say next nor how to respond.

The Ruling Oracle consisted of people the beast world elected to be the heads above the ruling beastmen. The ones who could stop the rulers from being tyrants if the need arose. They were that power above Mira’s husbands and they had a force that could rival that of the clan leaders. People of the beast world ensured it was so to ensure peace. And now, they sent their warriors here.

Mira suddenly did not give a shit who the heck these soldiers worked for, they were being disrespectful t the woman who would save the beast world from extinction!

"Have you no decency?!" Mira blurted out loud angrily. "How dare you march into my husband’s home, The Mighty Cheetah, and disturb my slumber?" Her face wrenched into one of disgust. "Do you have a death wish??!" Mira yelled.

For a moment, there was silence. Then, the sound of clearing throat reverberated from across the door.

"Forgive my rudeness. It was uncalled for." The man said, his voice was softer now and he sounded stunned.

Mira rolled her eyes, if she had not called them out on their bullshit, they might have acted so brute and gotten away with it like it was normal. "State your business and leave." Mira uttered, keeping her firm tone. Her voice was still laced with early morning waking up but sounded stern enough to show authority.

"We were sent by the Ruling Oracle." The man said.

"We?" Mira questioned with a raised brow.

"Me and twenty other warriors are situated behind this door."

This made Mira’s eyes widen. They sent an entire force all to come and get her? Or maybe they were here for her husband, it sounded more reasonable. "My husband is not here." Mira stated.

"We are aware of that. We are here for you."

Mira’s breath hitched. That man’s words just kept on getting thicker with things that nearly gave her a heart attack.

"What do you need me for?" Mira asked, she tried to suppress the breakage of her voice. Her body began to tremble like she was in trouble but she could not tell why.

"The Ruling Oracle had been invited to the cheetah clan to oversee matters that needs their attention." The man stated. Mira listened to him keenly, she did not want to miss a single word that left his mouth. "And it concerns you, wife of the mighty cheetah."

At this point, Mira could hear her own heart beat. It was loud and uneven and it felt like it synced with every pump of her blood.

She felt uneasy.

"Give me more details so I know how to prepare myself. I was informed of this on such short notice and did not have the splendour to organise a feast fitting for the Ruling Oracle. I need to prepare that too."

"There are no details for me to share to you for I only know what I was sent to deliver and that I have done. And please, you need not worry about that, the Ruling Oracle have told me to tell you that they would only spend a night or a short while at best. No extravagant welcoming is needed." The man said.

Mira had so many questions but she knew this man would not be able to give her the answers. She scanned the room, unsure of what to do. "How soon am I needed?" She asked.

"Immediately." The man responded.

"You woke me up from my slumber. I am not in any shape to appear in front of anyone. Please, give this woman a chance to have her bath and get ready." Mira said. Deep down, she just wanted to buy time.

There was a short silence before the man spoke again. "It is done. But we shall wait for you outside your home. We were given strict orders to not leave you alone."

Okay, this sounded serious, what on earth could it be? Mira asked herself.

"Thank you. Please step away from the door and go outside." Mira stated, she forced her body up the bed.

The man who had been speaking said a word and the others responded in a chant. It seemed like he was the one in charge.

"And please, forgive our intrusion once more." Echoed at the other end of the room. Now the sound of footsteps resounded loudly till it because distant.

Mira let out a heavy breath, what on earth was going on?
