Chapter 50: Chapter 50: Fog Bound Ship
After firing the second rocket, Kevin didn’t even look at the ship ahead. He went straight back to the cockpit, pulled the controls, and turned the helicopter around, heading toward the island.
Right then, a sharp and angry roar echoed from behind Kevin.
The Mist Phantom King, covered in red skin and tentacles, was now a mess, calling out Mist Phantoms to put out the fire.
Finally, just before the old sailing ship sank for good, the King saved a lifeboat.
It jumped in right away. Then it summoned two human-shaped Mist Phantoms to row as fast as they could, pulling them clear of the sinking ship.
Soon, the old sailing ship went under. A whirlpool quickly formed on the water where it had been, swallowing everything around it. Countless pieces of the ship were pulled into the sea and vanished.
The King turned to watch his ship sink. His urge to kill Kevin hit its peak. But without the ship, relying on just two Mist Phantoms and two oars, chasing Kevin across the ocean would take at least half a day.
Thinking of this, the King got even angrier. It summoned a bunch of hawk Mist Phantoms and flew straight for Kevin’s armed helicopter. This time, it didn’t care about the heavy losses. It just wanted to fight Kevin to the death.
At the same time, on the ship’s deck, Stephanie stared out the window at the flames, stunned.
Then, pure anger showed on her face. "You damn human! How did you know the weakness of the Mist Phantom race?"
Sitting in the helicopter, Kevin sneered. "If you had bothered to learn basic physics and chemistry, you wouldn’t ask such a stupid question."
Kevin’s answer made Stephanie lose it. She lunged wildly at Luna and Amelia, trying to wreck the Holy Spring where the Fish Fiend fins and claws had just been soaking.
Just in time, Amelia grabbed Stephanie’s arm. Then she spun around, lifted her leg, bent down, and threw her hard over her shoulder, knocking her out cold.
At that moment, a hint of clarity came back to Stephanie’s red eyes. A ball of blood-red mist came out of her eyes, nose, and mouth. It quickly took the shape of a skull Mist Phantom.
"Damn Survivor! Even if I leave this body, I’ll ruin your plan! You will all die at my King’s hands!" Saying that, the skull Mist Phantom charged at the Holy Spring on the ground again.
By now, it was too late for the girls to stop it.
At the last second, Celula grabbed a bottle of dark green Holy Spring and downed it.
Right after, her body started heating up fast. Her temperature shot from 37 degrees straight up to 100.
The intense heat almost made Celula lose her mind. She had to use all her willpower to keep her focus.
Soon, a cloud of light green mist came out of her pores.
That’s when Celula finally understood what power the Holy Spring soaked with Fish Fiend fins and claws actually gave them.
She held out both hands toward the skull Mist Phantom. Then, dark green mist swept out like a whirlwind. With a strong rush of air, a lot of fog from outside pushed into the cockpit.
The Mist Phantom’s body shrank fast under the heavy wave of dark green mist, and the foggy form, which had been over two meters tall, actually shrank at a speed you could see with the naked eye.
By the time the skull Mist Phantom crashed into the Holy Spring bottle on the deck, its body had already shrunk down to match the size of the bottle.
As the skull Mist Phantom watched the bottle in front of it grow larger—actually reaching its own height—it finally realized just how terrifying the power of the Holy Spring inside these bottles really was.
But just as it tried to turn and run to report this to the King of the Mist Phantoms, a sweet, flowing song suddenly filled the air.
Nova started humming a beautiful melody, and the skull Mist Phantom got completely lost in the wave of emotions the tune brought, forgetting all about running away.
Just as it stood there dazed and confused, Monchhichi grabbed an empty Holy Spring bottle and slammed it over the skull Mist Phantom, trapping it tight inside.
The sudden trap snapped the skull Mist Phantom back to reality: "Damn it! What did you do to me? Let me out, you bastards!"
But no matter how much the skull Mist Phantom screamed, the girls just stood there, completely unfazed.
Right then, Kevin had already set his armed helicopter down on the ship’s deck.
A swarm of hawk Mist Phantoms followed right behind him, quickly circling over the two-masted ship, and after their last short fight, they had learned their lesson. They didn’t rush in to attack Kevin, but instead kept up the constant pressure on him.
Kevin looked up at the swarm of hawk Mist Phantoms and grinned: "If you don’t come down now, you’re gonna miss your only chance."
He grabbed his walkie-talkie and ordered Luna and Amelia, "Drink up. Go ahead."
At Kevin’s signal, Luna and Amelia each grabbed a bottle of Holy Spring soaked with Fish Fiend claws and fins, and without hesitation, they downed the dark green liquid in one go.
Just like Celula, a light green mist soon started rising off their bodies.
At the same time, a system notification chimed in Kevin’s ear.
[Detected covenant-bearers "Luna" and "Amelia" have unlocked the temporary Talent: Deepsea Mist, which allows them to unleash up to 100 cubic meters of Eldritch fog within 24 hours and control it in battle.]
[Initiating reward merge and bonus calculation...]
[Reimbursement rate: 22x...]
[Congratulations! You’ve unlocked the temporary Talent: Deepsea Mist, which allows you to unleash up to 2,200 cubic meters of Eldritch fog within 24 hours and control it in battle.]
[Deepsea Mist: Deep Sea Stalker Race Talent. The unleashed fog features multiple effects, including corrosion, hallucinations, and fear.]
Kevin read through the messages and grinned.
As he suspected, thanks to the reward multiplier from the Covenant of the Saint, the amount of fog Kevin could control was now exactly twenty-two times his normal limit.
That meant Luna’s full unleash of Deepsea Mist could fill a sphere about three meters wide.
But Kevin’s numbers were even crazier, and going all out, his fog could easily fill a sphere ten meters across.
With the fog reserves ready, Kevin grinned: "Since you’re already here, you might as well stay."
He raised both hands, and a massive wave of light green mist poured out, and like a powerful geyser, it swept through the air, taking out a huge chunk of the hawk Mist Phantoms.
The girls on the deck all widened their eyes.
Nova was speechless for a moment. "I really didn’t expect you to have so many potion recipes. Did Captain Kevin tell you about these too?"
Luna didn’t answer Nova’s question.
She grabbed a bottle of dark green Holy Spring and held it out to Nova. "Drink it. We’ll talk after we’re done."
Nova took the bottle and frowned a little.
But thinking about the Mist Phantom threat, she didn’t hesitate and just downed it in one go.
Soon, all the girls on the deck had finished their bottles of dark green Holy Spring.
A thick cloud of Deepsea Mist drifted out from the deck, spreading fast and covering most of the ship.
Seeing this, Kevin added his own massive cloud of Deepsea Mist.
Thanks to Kevin, almost the entire two-masted ship was now buried under the fog.
The hawk Mist Phantoms still circling overhead froze for a second, unsure of how to strike Kevin.
They tried to dive into the fog, but the moment they touched it, their bodies felt like they were on fire.
In just a few seconds, their bodies shrank to half their size.
A few independent Mist Phantoms realized the danger, turned away from Kevin, and quickly climbed higher into the sky to escape.
Miles away, the King of the Mist Phantoms slammed his foot down in rage as he watched Kevin trap himself and the ship in the fog.
Right then, Kevin walked onto the deck and immediately went over to Stephanie.
He checked her over carefully, then let out a sigh. "Good news. She’s just being parasitized, not possessed. Her soul and mind are still intact. She’ll wake up fine after a nap."
Hearing that, the girls finally let out a breath and relaxed.
Celula stepped up to Kevin and pointed up at the circling hawk Mist Phantoms. "So, what’s the plan to deal with them?"
Kevin just sighed and gave a one-word reply. "Wait."
The truth was, Lord-level Eldritch Entities weren’t exactly easy to handle.
If Kevin hadn’t known the King’s weakness, he and his crew would be dead by now.
On this deadly sea, Eldritch Entities were ranked from low to high: Normal, Elite, Commander, Noble, Lord, Prince, and Monarch.
A Commander-tier entity was basically a mini-boss.
They all shared one trait: it was nearly impossible for a Survivor of the same level to take one down alone.
In Kevin’s past life, Survivors usually had to form squads of five to ten people just to hunt down a Commander.
Right now, Kevin wasn’t strong enough to fight a Commander one-on-one, and his crew was mostly just at the Elite level, so he immediately dropped any idea of a straight fight.
He glanced at Stephanie first, made sure she was still out, then turned to Celula and Monchhichi. "You guys have navigation and tracking. Let the other Survivor squads nearby know that a Commander-level entity just showed up here."
Then he looked at Nova. "Nova, please broadcast this on all the major channels. The first Survivor to kill this Commander gets a guaranteed Eldritch Artifact, plus a random chance at its Talent."
Nova’s eyes went wide instantly. "Are you crazy? If it’s such a good reward, why aren’t you going for it yourself?"
