Chapter 29: A New Companion
Then Miyuki fell asleep facing the celling.
After a while, she suddenly lifted her right leg and placed it on Arya’s leg.
Before Arya could react, she quickly threw her right hand toward his face.
Smack!
Her hand hit Arya right on the face.
"...Ouch."
Arya quietly removed her hand from his face.
Then he gently moved her leg away and slowly pushed her a little farther from him.
Finally, he closed his eyes again.
But only a few minutes later...
Miyuki moved again.
This time, she started kicking her legs as if she were running in her dream.
Thump!
Her foot hit Arya again.
Arya slowly sat up.
"...Seriously?"
He pushed her back again.
After watching her move around for another minute, he realized he wouldn’t be able to sleep like this.
So he decided to sleep on the floor instead.
He placed some clothes on the floor, took one pillow, and lay down.
"I hope I can finally sleep..."
But only a few minutes later...
Miyuki rolled toward the edge of the bed.
Before Arya could notice...
She suddenly fell down.
Thud!
She landed right on top of Arya.
"Ugh..."
Arya grabbed his stomach in pain.
He carefully lifted her and placed her beside him on the floor.
Even after falling like that...
She still didn’t wake up.
Arya looked at her with a tired face.
"...How can someone sleep this deeply?"
Since he still couldn’t sleep properly, Arya finally carried Miyuki back onto the bed.
Then he climbed onto the bed himself and fell asleep.
The next morning...
Miyuki slowly opened her eyes.
She rubbed her eyes with both hands.
Then she sat up.
"Huh?"
She looked around in confusion.
She was lying on the floor on top of some soft clothes.
"I’m sure... I fell asleep on the bed."
She looked toward the bed.
Arya was still sleeping peacefully.
Because of everything that happened during the night...
He hadn’t been able to sleep properly until very late.
Miyuki walked over to him.
She gently poked his shoulder.
No response.
She poked him again.
Still nothing.
After trying several more times...
Arya slowly opened his eyes.
"What happened...?"
"Why are you waking me up so early?"
Miyuki crossed her arms.
"What do you mean why?"
"We slept on the bed."
"So why did I wake up on the floor while you’re sleeping on the bed?"
Arya slowly sat up.
He didn’t tell her what had happened during the night.
Instead, he calmly said,
"In the middle of the night, you took some clothes and went to sleep on the floor."
"I tried to wake you up, but you were sleeping too deeply."
Miyuki blinked.
"...Really?"
She still looked confused.
Arya quickly got off the bed before she asked anything else.
"Let’s freshen up."
"We’ll meet in the living room."
After saying that...
Arya quickly walked out of the room.
After both of them freshened up, Miyuki came out of her room.
The moment she entered the living room, she saw breakfast already prepared on the table.
Arya was quietly sitting on a chair, waiting for her.
Miyuki still couldn’t understand what she was seeing.
She had never seen a mage who could do things like this.
She slowly walked over and sat on the chair beside him.
Arya smiled.
"Come on. Let’s have breakfast."
Before Arya started eating, Miyuki suddenly spoke.
"I know it’s strange to ask this...But I’ve never seen a mage like you before. I know humans can use magic with mana..."
"But what you’re doing is on a completely different level."
She looked directly at Arya.
"Arya... Are you really a human?"
Arya became silent.
He knew if he told her about the System, she wouldn’t understand.
After all, the System didn’t exist in this world.
So he decided to tell her part of the truth.
"You’re right. I’m not a human."
Miyuki’s expression changed.
She stared at him in surprise.
Arya smiled faintly.
"I know you probably won’t believe me."
Miyuki gently shook her head.
"I’ll believe you. You saved my life."
"You gave me food. You protected me."
"That’s enough for me. Please tell me."
Arya looked outside the window for a moment.
"...I’m a demon. I don’t know why I look like this. But I was born as a demon child. A human family raised me. That’s why I’m different.
"As for my magic... I can’t explain it right now."
"You probably wouldn’t understand. But one thing is true..."
"I don’t have mana. Because of that..."
"My demon family threw me away."
Miyuki’s eyes widened.
"If you don’t have mana... Then how can you use magic?"
"That’s impossible."
Arya smiled helplessly.
"After I was kicked out... I awakened a special power."
"I don’t know how to explain it."
Miyuki slowly nodded.
"It’s okay. I won’t force you."
After breakfast became quiet again, Arya looked at her.
"If you want... You can stay here with me as my new teammate."
"I’m not forcing you."
"If you want to go somewhere else, I’ll take you there."
Miyuki immediately shook her head.
"I don’t want to go anywhere."
"I don’t know anyone."
"If I leave... Someone will only hurt me again."
She lowered her head.
"But... I don’t want to become your teammate."
Arya looked confused.
"Huh?"
"Then what do you want?"
Miyuki took a deep breath.
"I want to work here. As your maid."
"I can help you."
"I know how to do housework."
"I learned everything while I was a slave."
Arya frowned.
"You don’t have to live like a slave anymore."
"You can stay here. I don’t mind."
Miyuki quickly shook her head.
"Please don’t say no. I really want to become your maid."
She smiled softly.
"Before yesterday... My whole world was dark."
"But when I saw the sky... And the sunset while flying with you..."
"For the first time... My world had color again."
"It’s because of you."
"So please..."
"Let me stay by your side."
Arya looked at her for a few seconds.
Then he smiled.
"If that’s really what you want..."
"Then... okay."
The moment she heard those words...
Miyuki’s face lit up with happiness.
