Chapter 368: Staff of the Enigmatic Wrath
’A staff... hmm, interesting...’ Dhruv thought, inspecting his new weapon.
Talking about the weapon, it didn’t look rare from any angle. It seemed like it was made from a really old tree branch. If Dhruv couldn’t see the powerful mana stored in the staff, he might have mistaken it for an ordinary branch.
Looking at the staff, he couldn’t help but feel a bit weirded out. Being the kind of guy who jumps on monsters directly, he didn’t exactly know how to use the staff properly... or if he could even use it to its full potential.
’Let the future Dhruv worry about it...’ Thinking this, Dhruv watched as the description of the item revealed itself in front of him.
[Item: Staff of the Enigmatic Wrath
Rank: Epic
Tier: V
Type: Weapon]
’Hmm! So this one is epic... better than the last one, at least...’ Looking at the rank, Dhruv instinctively compared it with the spear that had come out of the same diamond box.
He was about to open the description when a realization struck him.
’No... why am I comparing the two... or even any reward for that matter? Isn’t the value of each diamond chest... is!? What is their value? It’s something I can’t even understand...’
’I mean, in the first chest, I got the creation stone... which could count as truly invaluable. Then, in the second box, I got the throne and the blueprint... whose combined value can’t be measured yet, and currently the crown... which is literally made out of seven divine beings...’
’Even when all of them are this powerful... none of these have given a direct boost to my offense... and I can’t really tell which one is better...’ Knowing this was something worth pondering over, Dhruv thought about it for a moment.
He was thinking, but the moment his gaze landed on the staff, he remembered it. Reminding himself to think about it later, he clicked on the description of the item.
[Staff of Enigmatic Wrath: It is an epic artifact, revered for its profound enchantments that make it a beacon of power and destruction. Nothing is known about its creator other than that he loved destruction so much.]
’A craftsman who loves destruction... now that’s a dangerous combination,’ Dhruv thought, looking at the latter part of the description.
[Enchantment: Monstrous Allure, Killer, Arcane Surge, Thor’s Wrath, Pierce]
’Hmm, five enchantments... not bad...’ Smiling, he clicked on the first enchantment.
[Monstrous Allure: A passive enchantment that will constantly radiate a hostile aura, irresistibly drawing mindless creatures toward the wielder. Within 30 meters, the aura is strongest, after which it will slowly deteriorate.]
Understanding the enchantment, Dhruv couldn’t help but start stroking his chin. ’Isn’t this the perfect enchantment for monster hunting?’
He thought about how much better it would have been if he had this staff during his dive in the oceanic dungeon... maybe then he could have cleared two dungeons.
’Sigh! There is no point crying over spilled milk.’ Nodding his head, he moved to the next enchantment.
[Killer: A powerful enchantment that amplifies the damage inflicted upon both core and soul-based beings. When the staff strikes a core-based being, its damage output increases by 20%. Against soul-based beings, the staff’s attacks are enhanced by 10%.]
’Core-based beings... meaning monsters, and soul-based beings... meaning humans, right? So this enchantment will deal extra damage to both of these, but why is the damage done to soul-type beings half compared to core-based ones?’
Getting himself caught in the web of thinking, Dhruv tried to come up with the best answer. In the end, he could only come up with one.
’Is it that targeting the soul is much harder than the core...? Hmm, this is probably right. After all, the core can be easily located and damaged with anything, but to damage the soul, one has to have certain elements...’ Making up his mind to ask Aurora about this, Dhruv moved to the next enchantment.
[Arcane Surge: A passive enchantment that will bestow a surge of magical power upon its wielder. It increases the wielder’s magical potency by 30%, allowing spells to be cast with greater intensity and effect. Additionally, mana regeneration is accelerated by 20%, ensuring that the wielder doesn’t run out of mana.]
’Straightforward but good nonetheless...’ Reading the description, Dhruv couldn’t help but think of something that had always bugged him.
’How exactly are these enchantments increasing the potency of spellcasting?’ he thought, remembering the numerous times he had seen the same thing mentioned.
From weapon enchantments and skills to all the way down to organs, it was mentioned everywhere.
After thinking for a while, Dhruv couldn’t help but accept his defeat, understanding he had no expertise to even begin tackling these questions.
Impressed by the craftsmen who understood these things and could craft them, he moved to the next enchantment.
[Thor’s Wraith: It’s an area-of-effect enchantment with immense destructive power. When invoked, the staff conjures a tempest of raw thunder that engulfs a vast area, annihilating everything within its radius.]
’It isn’t mentioned how powerful the tempest will be, but considering it is epic... the effect shouldn’t be disappointing...’ Not having to think much here, Dhruv moved to the last enchantment.
[Pierce: Unlike the fourth enchantment, this one is focused more on single-target spells. Fueling the mana while activating the enchantment will turn any elemental mana into a pure concentrated beam of energy. Any spell augmented by Pierce will ignore all defenses, providing true damage to the target.]
’Ignore defense... delivering true damage... Now... this is something interesting.’ Dhruv thought, sparing no effort in understanding the enchantment. Spending a few minutes reading it again and again, he finally felt satisfied.
’So this enchantment will send a laser of sorts... including the properties of that element... well, this will be fun to use.’ Smiling, he closed the description and looked at his guardians.
’Looks like they are done with their own weapons as well...’ Dhruv thought, looking at the rewards they had gotten.
He couldn’t see what Alaric had got, but he could see a pretty sword in Vexar’s hand and a grimoire of sorts in Azarex’s hands.
Moving to them, Dhruv began learning about their rewards when he felt the temperature decrease around him.
’She is here...’ he thought, looking at the Ice Empress approaching from the sky.
