Chapter 220: Rune
Navi, who had just come out from the feast and was trying to sleep, got disturbed again by a plain voice.
"Navi, these are the cores you have asked for..." Alaric threw 50 tier 2 cores from his shadow in front of the head of the crafters.
"T-This late... You could have given it tomorrow, My lord," Navi answered as he picked up the cores from his house floor and began to pile them around in a corner.
Expecting a reply he turned around...
"..." It didn’t take him long to realize that he was once again alone in his house with nothing but his own thoughts to keep him company.
’Sigh! I should give them to Zola as soon as possible or he could literally come to my house demanding these things...’ Taking a deep sigh, Navi tried to sleep for the second time.
After going to the bathroom for the last time, Navi finally spends his night peacefully sleeping.
...
Knock! Knock!...
"W-Wh..o i...s ther..e?" Navi mumbled as he heard the sound of someone knocking on his door aggressively.
KNOCK! KNOCK! KNOCK!
"Coming... Just wait for a goddess damn second..." Shouting, Thala quickly got out of his bed and ran toward the door. Even before opening it, he had a slight suspicion about who was behind it.
"What is it?" Navi mumbled as he looked at the man in front of him.
The man who was in front of him looked more like a ghost than a man. He had the iconic messy black hair, his clothes were so messy that it looked like he hadn’t bathed in years. And most importantly his beard was having a competition with his hair.
"Navi, do you have the cores or not?" Without any greetings, the man in front of him directly got to the point.
"I have them, Zola, but what are you going to do with them this time?" Navi answered as he looked outside of his house. If his guess were to be right, it is still 4 in the morning.
"I just had a dream, hmmm! I found something that might be useful. Forget the questioning, just give me the damn cores," Zola answered as he began to peek inside his house.
"Okay, okay, wait here... I will bring ten for the time being. All of them are at tier 2. Happy." Answering this, Navi began to walk inside his house to bring the core.
"Tier 2... ten. Ten should be more than enough." Zola was so happy hearing this, that he began to repeat these words over and over again.
’Fucking weirdo... He is at it again...’
"Here are your cores, dear weaponsmith... Now, if you excuse this tiny... insignificant worm, then I want some sleep." Navi sarcastically replied as he handed over ten tier 2 cores.
"Hmmm! Please thank the lord... for me..." Saying these words, Zola began to walk toward his workshop. With his hasty steps, it took him about five or six minutes to reach his workshop.
All the crafters voted to build their workshop this far from the main part of the island so even when they decided to do anything in the middle of the night nobody got disturbed.
Reaching the workshop, Zola removed a cloth curtain from one of the multiple lumination crystals. In a matter of seconds, the entire area got bathed in artificial light.
"Shall we start..." Whispering these words, he sat on the chair beside a particular table.
Phew!...
Taking a deep breath, he placed all ten of the cores around the table and began to inspect the wooden piece that was placed on top of the table.
This wooden piece was carved in a way that resembles a normal magic staff. It was magical because the staff was specially carved from a mana tree... A [Magical wooden tree] to be exact.
Placing the wood in front of him, he picked one of the cores. Taking a pencil, Zola began to mark the size of the core on the wood. When the marking was done he began to carve out a hole in the wood to fit the size of the core.
The easiest part of this whole crafting took him about twenty minutes to do. When the hole was carved out, Zola got up from his seat and began to move toward a shelf.
From the shelf, he brought a jar, which was filled with blue illuminating liquid. He got a quill from that same shelf as well. Placing both of the items on his table, he took a deep breath... for the second again.
"Here we go..." Whispering these words, he opened the lid of the jar and dipped the quill into the liquid. After waiting for a moment, he brought it out and began to write something on the inner side of the hole... he had just carved out.
After an unknown amount of time, he lifted his head and looked at his work. If anyone beside him and some crafter were to see the writing they wouldn’t be able to understand a thing.
The reason behind this was Zola wasn’t writing that belonged to this world. He was writing runes on the staff. The same type of runes that the Goblin shaman had used.
"Looks about right..." he whispered as he compared his runes with the runes that were showing on his status.
After evolving into a [Magic Weaponsmith] at tier 2, all sorts of new weapon creation techniques had begun to show themselves in front of him. And among all these new creations, Zola found one thing that was common.
Writing runes.
Runes were something that was required in everything. This requirement wasn’t without importance as well.
A rune was the very thing that binds physical matter with magic. If a single rune were to be misplaced, then the entire craft would be worthless.
There are many ways to write runes, but the most common method consists of using pure mana. The pure mana can be directly extracted from a monster core... but the process isn’t simple either.
Just getting a jar of pure mana had Zola and his team a week’s worth of time.
"Let’s test it..." Whispering this, Zola placed the core inside the hole. When everything was perfect, he began to send some of his mana...
