Chapter 32: Psionic Weapons
Joren knew very well that the purchasing power of Military Merit inside Antares Command was far more terrifying than outside money.
Some things could not be bought with money at all.
He closed the profile page, slid his finger across the screen, and opened the [Internal Store].
A dazzling list of goods instantly filled the light screen.
Genetic serums, firearms, cold weapons, exoskeleton armor.
Everything was there.
Joren did not waste time browsing. He typed a keyword directly into the search bar.
Psionic weapon.
As a Psionic Master, ordinary blades and swords could still be used, but they could not bring out the strange and unpredictable advantages of Mental Force.
The light screen flickered.
Dozens of entries were filtered out.
[S 1 Type Hornet Sting psionic needles, set of nine: Price 100 Military Merit.]
[S 3 Type Gyro psionic dart: Price 200 Military Merit.]
...
Joren’s gaze swept through the list quickly before stopping on a uniquely shaped throwing knife.
[S 2 Type psionic throwing knife, Nightshade]
[Material: Forged from the spinal bone of the Rank Three Voidbeast Black Gold Python fused with memory metal.]
[Special property: Extremely high Mental Force conductivity. Comes with Silent Flight effect, producing no sound while flying.]
[Specification: Set of six, includes magnetic thigh sheath.]
[Price: 500 Military Merit.]
"This is the one."
Joren took a liking to it immediately.
It was expensive, yes, but the Silent Flight property was practically made for ambushes.
Paired with a Psionic Master’s object control, it would be a killing tool.
Without hesitation, Joren tapped purchase.
[Payment successful.]
[Military Merit balance: 100.]
[This item is in stock at the Norcrest branch. Your item has been shipped and is expected to arrive at your room within ten minutes.]
After handling his equipment, Joren drew in a deep breath and sat cross legged on the bed.
"System."
He called out in his mind.
The translucent panel visible only to him appeared before his eyes.
[Host: Joren]
[Mental Force: 100 Rank One Psionic Master]
[Combat Rank: Mortal 20/20]
[Bloodstars: 160]
[Combat Arts: Solar Crucible Method 0/100; Antares Bladecraft 0/80]
[Talent: Bladeborn Frame Green, Lithe Form Green]
One hundred and sixty Bloodstars.
Just enough.
"Add points."
With a thought, Joren split the Bloodstars evenly.
"Consume 80 Bloodstars to improve [Solar Crucible Method]."
"Consume 80 Bloodstars to improve [Antares Bladecraft]."
Boom!
As the numbers were deducted, a surge of heat began cycling through his body.
The essence of [Solar Crucible Method] flowed through his mind in an instant, as if he had cultivated this method bitterly for decades.
Vital Force washed through every inch of flesh in his body.
Pain.
Joren could clearly hear cracking sounds from inside himself.
His once white bones gradually grew denser and harder, giving off a faint metallic sheen.
Then came his skin.
Scalding Vital Force seeped into his skin and membrane. His pale skin turned red in an instant, and every pore began expelling gray black impurities.
When the heat faded, his skin returned to normal.
But with a close look, a faint bronze glow could be seen moving beneath the surface.
Iron bones.
Bronze skin.
[Ding! Points added.]
[Current panel updated:]
[Host: Joren]
[Combat Rank: late stage Rank One]
[Combat Arts: Solar Crucible Method 80/100 Greater Mortal; Antares Bladecraft 80/80 Mortal Perfection]
Joren opened his eyes sharply.
For an instant, a bright glint seemed to flash through his pupils.
He lowered his head and clenched his fist.
The air in his palm popped with a crisp sound.
That feeling of power was almost intoxicating.
Late stage Rank One.
For an ordinary Awakened Warrior to cultivate from Mortal to late stage Rank One, even with decent Talent, it would take at least three to five years of steady effort.
He had done it in an instant.
More than that, countless memories of Bladecraft had appeared in his mind.
The Mortal Perfection understanding of [Antares Bladecraft].
"The current me, even without using psionic power, could beat my old self to death with one punch."
Joren jumped down from the bed and moved his limbs.
His joints cracked all over, like coffee beans popping in a pan.
Ding dong.
The doorbell rang.
"Your delivery has arrived."
Joren walked over and opened the door.
A small silver drone hovered outside, carrying a black metal box underneath.
He took the box and opened it.
Six throwing knives, thin as cicada wings and black from tip to hilt, lay quietly inside, giving off a cold gleam.
Joren moved his mind.
All six throwing knives rose into the air at once and slowly revolved around him.
They truly made not the slightest sound as they cut through the air.
Like ghosts in the night.
Joren looked at the dark night beyond the window, a trace of anticipation passing through his eyes.
He hoped he could give Corren a little surprise tomorrow.
...
The first ray of morning sunlight pierced the clouds, but it failed to disperse the faint pressure hanging over Norcrest.
Joren casually picked up the Antares Command plain clothes on the table and put them on, then hid the six Nightshade throwing knives close to his body.
He had just opened the door, ready to head straight to the fifth underground floor and trade blows with that demon instructor.
Then.
Wooo!!!
A shrill alarm tore through the quiet morning without warning.
The sound was sharp and piercing, as if it drilled directly into the brain and stirred wildly.
Right after that, the tactical watch on Joren’s wrist began vibrating like mad. Its screen turned a glaring blood red.
[Level One Combat Readiness Alert!]
[Level One Combat Readiness Alert!]
[Norcrest northern defense line is under assault by a large scale Beast Tide!]
[All registered Antares Command personnel, cancel leave immediately and assemble!]
[Repeat! This is not a drill! This is not a drill!]
Before Joren could react.
Rumble!
The ground beneath his feet trembled slightly.
That was the roar of countless heavy armored vehicle engines starting at the same time.
It was also the aftershock of artillery firing from the distant defense line.
The hallway broadcast came alive at once, the mechanical female voice urgent and cold.
"All combat personnel, proceed to Building One plaza and assemble immediately!"
"Move out at once!"
Joren’s eyes tightened.
Beast Tide?
