Chapter 32: Storm Eater

Cole only reacted when he heard Jessica speak.

"Storm Eater Leviathan...!"

"How can that creature be here...? It’s not that time of the year yet..."

Once he heard her words, the gears in Cole’s mind turned, a few pieces of fleeting memory flashing through his thoughts.

The original Cole might have been a talentless young master, but when it came to knowledge, the fellow knew a lot of things about a lot of subjects. He had even studied this so-called Storm Eater.

Just like the Lightning Worm, the Storm Eater Leviathan was a genuine mana monster, a creature that grew endlessly by devouring lightning. The more it devoured, the bigger it became.

When his thoughts reached this point, Cole’s gaze unconsciously moved upward.

By its length, this leviathan was still young. If the records were to be believed, an adult Storm Eater Leviathan could easily reach dozens of kilometers.

At this time, Ethan turned to Jessica after hearing her speak. After confirming that she was okay, he asked worriedly,

"Sister, you might have mistaken it. How can a Storm Eater arrive here? This is called the part of the Thunder Domain with the least amount of lightning storms. Usually at this point in time, those monsters avoid this region..."

Maybe Ethan’s words annoyed her, because the next moment Jessica’s expression turned even frostier.

"Then what do you think my eyes are doing? Playing tricks or something else...?"

She wanted to continue speaking, but suddenly another bolt of lightning fell from the sky, chipping a piece of stony dirt from her shoulders.

It was at this time both Jessica and Ethan exchanged glances, both noticing something amiss. By the time Ethan realized what was happening, his expression fell.

Because the Storm Eater Leviathan had devoured most of the lightning, the frequency at which the lightning fell was greatly reduced.

"No! I need to do something!"

Ethan immediately stood up alert.

"If there is not enough lightning, we need to move deeper. The Thunder Domain has existed for an unknown amount of time. If the storm could devour all the lightning, the region would have long disappeared."

However, when he urged the fire-breathing wolves to push the chariot, they would not budge.

"Damn you bunch of ungrateful animals...! I had been feeding you all these years for nothing!"

No matter how much he cursed, the wolves simply refused to move.

Finally, after giving up, Ethan turned to Cole, the only reliable person so far.

"Customer—"

Just as he opened his mouth, Cole gestured for him to shut up.

Ethan was confused, but he still did as he was told. The next moment, he saw Cole point toward another corner of the sky.

"What is it...?"

Ethan was confused and wanted to express his grievances. Here his sister was on the verge of turning into stone, and Cole had the time to look around?

However, when he finally noticed what Cole was pointing at, Ethan felt his heart palpitate, his eyes turning wide as saucers.

"Another Storm Eater Leviathan...!"

That’s right — there was not one leviathan, but two, and the two seemed to be heading toward each other.

Cole’s thoughts surged at high speed. He had a faint inkling of what was going to happen.

We need to get out of this place fast...

He could not even begin to imagine the destruction a battle among such monstrous beings would cause. A simple aftershock might render his body immobile for a lifetime.

The next moment, things happened just as he had thought. However, one thing was completely out of expectation: the two might have been strong and huge, but they were not slow at all.

The next moment, the two moved like bolts of lightning, colliding against each other. The impact generated an expansive shockwave, sending everything flying.

Even though Cole managed to react in time, he was still flung off his feet, flying through the air. His body came to a halt only when he struck the iron rods surrounding the chariot.

As someone who was at the peak of the Nascent Trainee Realm, Cole was able to absorb the blow, but Ethan was not as lucky. After striking the chariot’s front cover, the fellow immediately fainted.

"Brother...!"

Jessica called out, her voice cutting through the chaos. There was helplessness and rage mixed in her tone. The formation was active; she could not stop the process halfway. Moreover, even if she wanted to move, she simply could not. Her entire body below her waist had already turned into stone.

Once the shockwave passed, Cole moved close to Ethan’s unconscious body. He took out the healing potion that he had just received and dropped one drop into the fellow’s mouth. Immediately, color returned to Ethan’s mouth, and he woke up the next moment.

"What just happened? Where am I...?"

Then, in between his words, he stopped, seemingly remembering everything. Without another word, he looked toward the sky, where the giants were still clashing. Their clash caused passing changes. It looked as if the sky was about to collapse, while the ground caved in for tens of kilometers.

For the first time ever since arriving in this world, Cole felt true horror.

All this time, humanity had been facing such a crisis and surviving.

Suddenly, the admiration that he felt for the saints that had made humanity survive thus far increased.

Maybe because they were no longer sucking in all the lightning, the storm regained its earlier intensity. Lightning bolts continued to fall one after another, allowing Jessica to recuperate once more.

Just then, a terrifying sound-shaking roar echoed through the Thunder Domain.

"Roar!"

Shaking both the eardrums and hearts of all those that heard it.

This time, Cole reacted a bit late, and his eardrum ruptured. Fresh blood erupted out.

Just as he was looking for a spot to hide, he noticed a faint blue ruby flash in the sky. No — it was not a single ruby, but a rain of multiple ruby-like objects.

Hmm... is that blood...?

As someone who was used to dealing with monster blood, he recognized the rubies as highly crystallized blood. When the percentage of mana in blood reached a certain level, the blood started to crystallize once it was out of the monster’s body.

The gears in his head turned.

This was an opportunity to get the blood essence of such a strong mana monster.

He was not going to miss it.

Not only could he sell the blood essence for a high price, but he could even use it for his research.
