Chapter 140: Mud VS Future Sight
"Use my ability?" Erin quietly repeated.
"What? Can’t use your ability, Pure scum?" Duke sneered.
She bit her lip, unsure what to do, or what to say. How could she even fake her ability now? She had the thought of placing ice in her dimensional storage before, and taking it out to ’prove’ her original ability was still there, but it was still obvious that there was a shadow over the ice.
Nathan glanced at Duke, then to Erin, and sighed. "I hate to admit it, but it looks like you were right, Duke."
"But wait—" Erin blurted out, "How could I have faked my ability in the beginning?"
Nathan barely nodded, "Perhaps Pure had found out a way to temporarily inject their members with MC, just enough to infiltrate the school."
Pure was always working on some sort of way to cure abilities, often leading to them being strangely the ones who know the most about how MC cells worked. It didn’t seem out of the possibility that they could’ve temporarily given someone an ability through their knowledge.
"How am I an agent of Pure? I answered the lady, she said I wasn’t part of Pure!" Erin pleaded.
Sweat formed on the back of her neck. Throughout this entire time, Erin was messaging Quinn, telling him to get to Layla, and find a way out of this.
"It could be a trick of Pure," Duke coldly stated.
"Well, she does bring up a point. So far, truth detecting abilities haven’t failed us before," Nathan noted.
"If they are constantly researching ways to remove abilities, then they would’ve figured out a way to block them," Duke asserted.

"Must I mind you," Nathan firmly stated, "that I am an expert at blocking abilities. I would’ve known about this."
"Yes, but that is the result of your ability," Duke shot back, "Just as she temporarily gained an ice ability to join us, she could’ve temporarily used a copy of your ability to block our truth detector."
Nathan sighed in frustration, "Fine, just to prove you wrong, I’ll block her ability, and have the investigation start again."
With how the situation was going, it was clear that Duke was pushing for a specific result, and she had to speak up.
"But I’m not part of Pure! I’m just a normal student. I want to beat the dalki more than anyone!" she repeated, frustration building within.
Nathan raised his hand, and a strange grey-like bubble formed around it.
"If that is true, then you should have nothing to worry about."
Walking over to the girl, Nathan made the bubble grow more and more around Erin’s body, sending an uncomfortable shiver down her spine.
Once the bubble had completely enveloped Erin, she felt a strange tingly feeling throughout her body, as if there was a foreign energy draining her own.
[Your MC and energy levels are being drained!]
[Unable to block the ability]
She tried to keep her body upright, but collapsed over the table, exhausted. Just as the system said, her energy was gone. Double checking her other stats, her MC had gone down as well.
[MC 0/100]
"Now that is done, let the true interrogation begin," Duke declared.

Mono stood there, annoyed by the sudden appearance of Quinn.
’What’s this useless trash doing here?’ Mono scorned, then glanced at Quinn’s watch, ’A level 4? How did he improve his ability so fast?’
De-summoning his soul weapon around Layla, then re-summoning it into his hands, Mono whipped it around, threatening the two first years.

"I’m not letting either of you get past here!"
Immediately, Quinn saw Layla’s wounds begin to heal from the corner of his eyes, and summoned an earth wall to block Mono’s vision.
"Go! I’ll cover you," Quinn commanded.
Layla nodded, and Quinn pushed the wall towards Mono.
Lashing his soul weapon onto the wall, it broke into a million pieces, spreading dust everywhere. Checking his future sight, Mono smirked as he dodged several tri-spikes shot his way, avoiding each and every one.
Then, he lashed his whip out towards the direction of the spikes, and he already knew it was wrapped around his intended target.
"Got you!"
He yanked the whip, intending to bring his target closer, but paused.
’No, it can’t be!’ Mono frantically thought, checking his future sight.
In the next 2 seconds, Mono found that he couldn’t see anything at all.
Just as predicted, the dust surrounding him had spun, then coalesced around his face, obscuring his vision.
Gritting his teeth, Mono let loose his whip to do his attacking. Even if Mono couldn’t see, his soul whip shared the ability.
In Quinn’s perspective, just as he had sent the wall towards Mono, he quickly formed his earthen armor right afterwards. It had turned out to be the best move for him as the soul whip had latched onto his waist, but due to his increased weight, he barely budged.
’Why isn’t he using his beast whip from before? Did he not think to bring it?’ Quinn thought, ’At least he was too distracted to notice Layla.’
Either way, Quinn controlled the dust around the entrance to go to Mono’s face. Due to him now leveling up to level 4, Quinn was able to control earth he wasn’t touching to a much more finer degree.
Then, he charged at Mono. At the same time, the whip lashed against Quinn’s armor, breaking apart some of the rocks.
His fist connected with Mono’s chest, and the second year stumbled back. Quinn tried to throw another bunch, but he side stepped it.
Unbeknownst to Quinn, Mono had figured out that when he moved quickly enough, the dust around his head took a second to catch up, allowing a brief glimpse to see what was going to happen.
As Quinn threw fist after fist, Mono kept jerking his head around, forcing Quinn to use a bit of his concentration to cover his vision again. Although the punches landed most of the time, Mono was able to dodge a few of them. At the same time, the soul whip was restricting Quinn’s movements, cracking his armor.

Eventually, a chunk of the chest piece fell off, and the whip lashed onto the exposed part immediately. Quinn hissed, taking a step back, losing concentration on the dust.
That had given Mono the opportunity to grab the soul whip, and pull harder, completely restricting Quinn.
"Just face it, you’ll always be a weak level 1," Mono spat out.
Despite his situation, Quinn smiled, "A weak level 1, huh? How about I use a "weak" level 1 trick on you."
Mono raised an eyebrow, but stepped back as Quinn attempted to headbutt him. In the same moment, he stomped his foot to control the dust in Mono’s eyes. The second year was able to avoid these attacks, but not fast enough to retaliate.
The tip of the whip loosened to try to attack the dust, but all it did was swat at it uselessly. Now with a tiny bit more room, Quinn opened his pouch, and sent out several pounds of mud around Mono’s legs, making sure to steer clear of his vision.
Before he knew it, Mono found himself unable to move. He looked down, and saw that mud had completely overtaken his lower body.
"You think this will contain me? You’ll still need to deal with my soul weapon!" Mono hissed.
"If that’s so then..." Quinn glanced over Mono’s shoulder, "You won’t be able to see it."
Right as he said that, Quinn skidded his foot back, causing a large wave of mud behind Mono to crash onto him. It fully covered his body, then hardened. A moment after, the whip around Quinn disappeared signaling Mono was defeated.
Ever since his first fight against Mono, Quinn had done some research into the future sight ability, and found that one of its other weaknesses was that it functioned on the basis of its user’s vision. It was why he focused so much on obscuring Mono’s sight.
He let out a massive sigh of exhaustion. That fight took a lot out of him, but it meant Layla was now in the school building, finding the best person to help.
