Chapter 33: Improvement
With the Flameheart family’s help, the situation was under control. Although the battle continued, many started to believe that they would survive and even felt there was an exaggeration about the description of Beast Tide.
It certainly felt dangerous, but it wasn’t enough for them to feel despair. But the nobles or the commander didn’t show any excited expression; their eyes were locked on the distant mountains.
The sea of beasts didn’t weaken as it continued to spit more and more beasts, but gradually the number of stronger beasts was increasing. The increase was very slow; it didn’t appear much on the overall battlefield, but only the experienced veteran from the noble family knew what it meant.
Max didn’t know that as he looked at the horde of beasts. He just felt a weird energy within it which he couldn’t express. But his main focus remained on the battle.
He was improving quite fast as his mastery of the spear seemed to become sharper and build a unique and powerful momentum. It still couldn’t be compared to the veteran from the noble families, but his rate of improvement was lightning fast.
In just a single day, he had gone from someone who had never held a weapon before... To someone whose spear skills rivalled those of a trained soldier who had practised for years. As he continued to improve, he started to become more confident and take care of more and more beasts.
But what he didn’t know was that two people had been watching from the beginning and noticed his rapid improvement.
They were not anyone else but the commander and the female captain from the Flameheart family.
Both of them felt the ancient aura within Max, so they remembered him. At first they were kind of disappointed seeing him fight. They could clearly see he was a novice, but his strength and speed were above the rest.
But this wasn’t worth their attention, but as time passed they saw the improvement. His improvement was very fast, as he seemed to be taking this battle as a training ground to hone his skills, and surprisingly, he improved faster than they expected.
Neither of them was inexperienced. They both understood that true geniuses could grow rapidly through real combat.
But even with that knowledge... Max’s growth was still unbelievable.
From his awkward movements at the beginning of the battle, they could easily tell that he had awakened his bloodline only recently and had almost no experience using a spear.
Yet with every passing minute... His movements became smoother.
Sharper.
More efficient.
He experimented, adapted, corrected his mistakes, and improved at a speed that defied common sense.
This made them look at Max with new understanding. Flameheart family isn’t like a typical noble family that sees everyone beneath them; instead, they knew there are sometimes extraordinary people who emerge from commoners, although that might be one in ten million, but that happens.
So, if they met someone worth investing in or befriending, they usually didn’t hold back, which is also one of the reasons they remained standing tall for thousands of years.
Even the legends claiming that the Flameheart Family had mysterious connections with terrifying beings were believed to have originated from their habit of recognising and taking chances on extraordinary geniuses before anyone else.
Not only that, the ancient aura was something that only appeared on someone who awakened a bloodline at least B-rank and above. And it would remain on them for some days before disappearing.
Which is why they were shocked when they felt the ancient aura, which only the terrifying geniuses from ancient noble families in the capitals have.
The presence of ancient aura means he had at least awakened B-rank and above level of bloodline, which practically makes him one of a kind of genius in the southern region of the state of Silver River.
It is practically difficult for others to feel the ancient aura, but Flameheart clan’s bloodline can feel it due to the special nature of the bloodline power of Heartflame that reacts to such ancient aura.
And now, seeing Max’s improvement, both nodded in understanding; any person awakening such a high-ranked bloodline is never simple.
Having reached that conclusion, they shifted their attention back to commanding the battlefield. The fighting was only becoming more difficult as time passed.
Meanwhile...
Max remained completely unaware that anyone had been watching him. He had entered a strange state of focus.
A battle trance.
Every swing of his spear became more natural than the last.
He even began integrating his Blood flow boost into combat, using sudden bursts of enhanced speed and strength to experiment with entirely new patterns of attacks.
Doing so, his ability to use blood control was increasing as well. At that moment, he didn’t care about anything else, like he was in god mode and playing a video game with a killing spree.
Time continued to pass.
Three hours had now elapsed since the battle began. The number of powerful beasts continued increasing. The accumulated exhaustion finally began taking its toll.
The Bloodline Awakeners were breathing heavily. Hours of combat made the bloodline awakeners feel tired.
Even the elite bloodline awakeners from the noble family started to feel tired. But Max was still full of energy, even though he fought nonstop. He was like a perpetual motion machine that doesn’t get tired and has infinite energy.
This kind of unlimited stamina was finally noticed by others. Even among the bloodline awakeners of noble families, they had become slower to conserve their energies, increasing the pressure behind them.
But Max was still killing like a perfect machine. This also let others notice his strength and speed, which was also beyond ordinary bloodline awakeners.
And among the nobles, Ethan Silverblade also noticed this. He, throughout the battle, didn’t have to do much as the subordinate bloodline awakeners had done most of the work.
"Oh, this commoner dog isn’t bad."
