Chapter 25: Caravan
There were hundreds or thousands of beasts in the horde that seemed to be also running away from something deeper in the Myriad Beast Mountains.
Every beast was at least as strong as the swift wolves, and many were stronger than that. Ten or so swift wolves trouble the max’s group, not to mention there are thousands of such beasts in this beast tide.
If they get caught in it, it would certainly mean death. Beast tides were like calamities that sweep numerous cities and leave only devastation.
Max was in pain, as his left arm still hurt like hell. His strength has also weakened after using so much blood and constant fighting. Mostly it was the mental aspect, as constant fighting and maintaining intense concentration through one battle after another made his mind more exhausted than the physical body.
But they had to continue to run, as the beast tide was just behind them; even though they created some distance, it was still within a distance of a matter of minutes.
They ran without saying words. And while running, they also met some beasts, but Max quickly took care of them with his precise blood bullets before they could slow the group down.
They ran for over half an hour.
Constantly fighting.
Constantly escaping.
Every one of them was exhausted. Max remained in the best condition thanks to his monstrous stamina and the regenerative power of the blood dragon body.
But Andrew and Mathew were nearing their limits. Their breathing had become ragged and their bodies were soaked in blood and sweat.
And the beast tide behind them has only become larger with time as it continues to raze the land.
"There is the official road nearby; we can then go to the city to take shelter," Andrew said while panting.
They needed to rest at least for some minutes. The city closest to them was called Flameheart City and had a stronger army than Blackthorn City. It might not be big like Sea Trident City, but it also has quite a mysterious history, even said to have a connection with the Duchy.
They would be safe if they entered the city.
Max simply nodded. There was no strength left for unnecessary conversation. He followed Andrew’s lead.
Several minutes later... The dense forest finally began to thin.
At last, a wide official road came into view.
Relief appeared on everyone’s faces. But as they came near, they noticed the roads were filled with beasts and even human corpses everywhere.
Blood stained the ground red. Broken weapons lay scattered everywhere. It was clear that countless people had already fought desperately to escape the beast tide.
They looked at each other but did not stop. As they moved forward, they met with some beasts. Mostly they were beasts like swift wolves, iron boars, stone lizards or similar beasts that usually stay in the outermost region of the Myriad Beast Mountains range.
But because of the beast tide, all such beasts have come out of their usual territory. These types of beasts might not be too dangerous for Bloodline awakeners, but for normal humans, they were still terrifying.
It usually required five to ten fully armed and well-trained soldiers just to kill a single one. Now they were appearing in groups of ten or more.
It was no wonder so many soldiers and mercenaries had already lost their lives along this road.
Max still had strength and fired blood bullets.
Bang! Bang! Bang!
In just a short period of time, his control over the blood had improved tremendously.
He had learnt how to use the minimum amount of blood while maximising its power to efficiently kill these beasts. His aim was perfect, and blood bullets’ power was enough to pierce through their skulls in a single strike.
After running on the official road for some time, they finally saw other humans.
However... Their situation was far from reassuring.
A caravan was locked in a desperate battle against more than a dozen Stone Lizards.
Their situation wasn’t good, as among them only one was a bloodline awakener, and the rest were mostly ordinary soldiers or mercenaries. The bloodline awakener alone was surrounded by half of the stone lizards, desperately holding them back, and the rest were attacking the human caravans protected by mercenaries.
Seeing this, Max didn’t hesitate. He raised his hand.
Bang! Bang! Bang!
And fired blood bullets from a distance, and all the people fighting heard a bang sound, and then, one after another, stone lizard skulls started exploding.
All of them were shocked as they quickly looked at the source of the noise, and they finally noticed the trio running towards them.
This immediately excited the people in the caravan as they were in desperate need for help.
Under normal circumstances, they would have remained wary of unknown strangers approaching during a journey.
But this situation was different. If those three had malicious intentions, they could have simply waited until everyone here had been killed before looting the caravan.
Instead... They had chosen to help.
That alone was enough to earn everyone’s trust. The desperate defenders couldn’t help but feel relieved.
Perhaps... Their luck hadn’t completely run out yet.
Max continued to fire; he adjusted his blood bullet power and used a bit more blood, as the stone lizards’ skins were covered in stones like hard materials and were difficult to kill.
The bloodline awakener from the caravan also didn’t let the chance go and quickly broke through as Max’s attack killed some of the stone lizards.
Max then proceeded to help the mercenaries who were facing the remaining stone lizards.
Bang! Bang! Bang!
With every shot fired, he would take a stone lizard’s life, and then quickly the group of stone lizards was completely clear.
The trio also finally arrived at the caravan. And just then, from within the only decorated horse carriage, a lady wearing a thin veil walked out.
