Chapter 73: Chapter 73: A Tragic Fate

Chapter 73: A Tragic Fate

Yato Uchiha first reached out a hand, followed by his head and shoulders. Then, his entire body squeezed through, appearing inside the Great Spirit Book Gallery.

Behind him, Shingo Tsunayashiro had completely passed out.

Using that "External Eye" as a bridge to cast Kamui and perform a spatial teleportation placed an immense burden on the target. Not only would they fall into a deep coma, but a segment of their memory would also be completely erased.

Yato helped the Gatekeeper into a chair. The Mangekyo pattern in his eyes gradually dispersed, reverting to the standard three-tomoe Sharingan.

He looked ahead. Countless corridors emitted a pale blue light, connecting into an endless, massive spectacle.

All the history that had ever occurred in the Soul Society was recorded right here.

"With the Gatekeeper’s Spiritual Pressure intensity, even if he’s unconscious, he’ll wake up soon... I need to be quick."

Yato muttered to himself, stepping up to the query terminal.

This time, there was no one around to restrict his search parameters.

Yato rapidly entered his query:

"All connections between Yato Uchiha and the Zero Division."

After a shimmering light flashed, a line of small text appeared.

"As of this moment, there have been two connections between the Zero Division and Yato Uchiha. The first is a mention in an edict, and the second is a direct meeting."

The youth thought for a moment, knowing that this "meeting" likely referred to the day Kirio Hikifune was promoted, which was his first encounter with the Zero Division.

But an edict?

"Display the contents of that edict."

"The original document is recorded in Corridor Level 5022, Grid SS9. The following is a transcribed copy."

After a series of mechanical clicking sounds, a brief text appeared.

"Edict from the Monk Who Calls the Real Name: Yamamoto, Yato Uchiha of the Shin’o Academy may be cultivated with full effort, to await the King’s use."

Yato Uchiha furrowed his brow tightly. On the surface, there was absolutely nothing wrong with this sentence; it was merely an instruction from a superior to a subordinate.

As for "to await the King’s use"...

The youth channeled his Spiritual Pressure into the terminal and searched for anything related to Ichibei Hyosube. The result was exactly as expected—no results were displayed whatsoever.

Naturally, the Great Spirit Book Gallery had no way to directly spy on an existence of that caliber. As for why he could search the contents of the edict, it was probably because the document had been viewed by Genryusai Shigekuni Yamamoto, and thus, it was recorded.

Yato stroked his chin in thought, then changed his search angle.

"Past wielders of Multi-Stage Release Zanpakuto."

This time, the terminal stalled for quite a while. The search scope was likely too massive and the information too ancient. Just as Yato was growing slightly impatient, strings of text finally generated.

"...Twenty-four thousand, three hundred years ago, the first wielder of a Multi-Stage Release Zanpakuto, Uto Akiyama, was born. He completed his studies at Oetsu Nimaiya’s ’Kenjijuku’."

"During the war with Hueco Mundo, Uto Akiyama beheaded the enemy leader, establishing great merit. After his death, his remains were sent to the Soul King Palace by the main branch of the Shiba Clan, buried in the celestial canopy..."

"...Eight thousand, six hundred and forty years ago, the fifth wielder of a Multi-Stage Release Zanpakuto, Guren Yasoarashi, was born. She never took a master and wandered the Rukongai her entire life, yet her name shook the Soul Society with an undefeated reputation."

"After Guren Yasoarashi’s death, she was praised as ’a powerhouse worthy of remembrance.’ Envoys from the Soul King Palace escorted her remains to the Zero Division, where a sword monument was erected in eternal commemoration..."

"...One thousand, three hundred and eighty years ago, the seventh wielder of a Multi-Stage Release Zanpakuto, Furofushi Saito, was born. She later became the Captain of the 6th Division in the original Gotei 13."

"Eight hundred and fifty years ago, Furofushi Saito attempted regicide but failed. She fled to Hueco Mundo, was personally captured by the Zero Division, and executed at the detached palaces of the Soul King Palace..."

"...Twenty-four years ago, the eighth wielder of a Multi-Stage Release Zanpakuto, Yato Uchiha, appeared in the Soul Society. He is currently the 3rd Seat of the 12th Division and the head of the SRDI’s Capture Department..."

Inside the Great Spirit Book Gallery, the faint blue light reflected on the youth’s face. His expression shifted from shock to confusion, and finally to a calm stillness, leaving only his brain racing at maximum speed.

It was glaringly obvious. Including himself, there were seven others before him who had also possessed this exceedingly rare type of Zanpakuto.

And more importantly... the remains of all these wielders had been sent into the Soul King Palace!

Whether under the guise of commemoration or through the execution of a traitor, the final resting place of these individuals was inextricably linked to the Zero Division.

Is that guy, Ichibei Hyosube, collecting our corpses?

Is it just collecting corpses?

If I end up living long enough, will he lose his patience and forcibly turn me into a corpse...?

As expected, he needed to keep his guard up against the Zero Division.

Yato Uchiha sneered coldly, erasing the dense blocks of text from the screen.

Although he had the sinking feeling of being targeted by Ichibei Hyosube, the youth wasn’t particularly panicked.

Having lived in the Gotei 13 for three years, Yato Uchiha had already developed a mindset unique to Soul Reapers—

Even if the sky fell, it didn’t matter. With Akame in hand, the worst that could happen was a shattered blade and a lost life!

There were all kinds of Soul Reapers in the Gotei 13. Some were cowardly, some were insane, and some were kind and resolute. But the vast majority of them didn’t harbor an extreme fear of death.

With their Zanpakuto’s companionship, even if they died, they died together. At the very least, they wouldn’t be lonely.

In a certain sense, this was a romance unique to Soul Reapers.

Yato stroked Akame’s hilt and silently calculated the time. Knowing the Gatekeeper wouldn’t wake up for another ten minutes or so, he didn’t waste any time and pivoted to look up other information.

The vast majority of it was related to training and cultivation.

"Kido originated a million years ago, tracing its earliest roots back to the chaotic primordial era of the world. Later generations of the Five Great Noble Families collected the corresponding incantations and spells, compiling them into volumes and establishing their numbered system. Thus, when casting Kido, one can adjust their Spiritual Pressure according to the traits of the Five Great Noble Families, such as the Shiba Clan’s sand and gravel spells..."

"As for the ultimate master of Zanjutsu, the Soul Society has never reached a historical consensus. Academics believe that ’Kenpachi’ is nothing but a title for madmen who desecrate the true meaning of the way of the sword. While this view is quite niche, it is not without reason. The first essential principle of Zanjutsu is the ’Loose Grip.’ It emphasizes finesse, using the muscles of the fingers to control the trajectory of the blade..."

"Hollowfication experiments are strictly prohibited by the Seireitei. Anyone who touches upon this taboo will be treated as a Hollow and executed at the Sokyoku Hill, their soul incinerated and their blade destroyed. The mainstream view holds that Hollows and Soul Reapers are polar opposites, but a small fraction of scholars have proposed that the Quincies’ fear of Hollows does not appear normal..."

The Great Spirit Book Gallery truly was an incredible place. The vast oceans of insights into Zanjutsu, Hakuda, Hoho, and Kido, along with secret histories and core tenets from various schools of thought, vastly broadened Yato Uchiha’s horizons.

Unfortunately, as a mere 3rd Seat, he couldn’t stay here for long.

However, just as Yato was about to leave, the corners of his mouth suddenly curled up. Out of sheer curiosity, he entered a single name:

"Sosuke Aizen"

The Great Spirit Book Gallery quickly provided an answer:

"Sosuke Aizen, born two hundred and thirty-seven years ago. Currently the Lieutenant of the 5th Division. His Zanpakuto is the water-type ’Kyoka Suigetsu.’ Upon its Shikai release, it uses the erratic reflections of mist and flowing water to interfere with..."

Yato clicked his tongue, unable to help but shake his head and sigh in lament.

"How truly terrifying. Lieutenant Aizen, can you even deceive the Great Spirit Book Gallery?"

Sighing, he wiped away all traces of his searches. His eyes shifted back into the large black pinwheels of his Mangekyo Sharingan as he phased back into Shingo Tsunayashiro’s eye.

Inside the Great Spirit Book Gallery, Yato Uchiha vanished without a trace.
