Chapter 229: Birthday date!
Seoha’s POV
It’s almost seven p.m. and I am nervously kicking at the stones in front of me.
It’s just ten minutes left before he gets here for his birthday date. I check the weather app on my phone again. It’s all clear.
No rain.
"Good, good, good" I say to myself to ease my nerves.
Minjae was no help when I asked him for a date idea. Every time I called, there’s either the noise of skin slapping, wet sucking or loud moaning.
Really, what kind of stamina does that pregnant omega have to be doing ’that thing’ all day?
And even if he’s doing ’that thing’ all day, why was he choosing to accept my call and traumatize me?
I shudder and force myself to forget about it.
Minjae is such a wild cat, this is the first time I’m agreeing with Taesan on that.
Later in the day, when I realized that Minjae was not stopping any time soon, I checked the internet for a date idea.
Everything that came out in the result was nice and pretty, but they were too expensive. I was tempted to use Taesan’s black card, but I changed my mind.
If I use his own card to celebrate his birthday...wouldn’t that be exactly as if he’s the one celebrating himself?
I messaged Minjae again and his response was; celebrate a birthday in a birthday suit.
Really, is there a best friends refund store?
"Six more minutes" I mutter, running my hands over my side to smooth out my clothes. I’m wearing my old white hoodie and a pair of black pants. It’s the clothes I wore during our first meeting.
I want to be myself for him today.
My clothes are completely mine even though they are old, washed and stretched out. The only things on me that aren’t mine are his collar and my phone.
I check the time and it’s already two minutes after seven.
My nervousness spikes, but I just walk down the beach, humming a line of BLACKPINK’s Stay to ease my mind.
’Alpha?’ my omega asks after three more minutes of walking alone and feeling the night breeze.
"Alpha would hate this, wouldn’t he?" I say to the river in front of me, but my words are drowned by the cars driving over the bridge.
"No, he won’t" I answer my own question. I try to encourage myself, but my attention is stolen by a particularly pretty car that has its roof down.
The red car reminds me of a certain redhead, and at the thought of that redhead, I look at the bag in my hand.
It’s a nylon bag, and in it I have an orange juice box, a chocolate bar, and a pack of gummy bears...isn’t this just embarrassing?
What was I thinking? Is it too late to change the date? I can lie that I fell sick and couldn’t carry out the date.
If Jaemin was the one planning a birthday date, I’m sure he’d do something grand since he’s richer than me, and since he even knows Taesan more than I do.
He knows what Taesan likes, he knows who Taesan’s sister is, he knows Taesan’s birthday...
It’s better to go back home and save myself from being embarrassed.
I dial Taesan’s phone, but he doesn’t accept the call. Five more minutes has passed and he’s not here yet...I guess he’s not coming too.
My fingers hover on the screen of my phone, and as I am about to type a text to tell him the date has been canceled, his call comes in.
"Hello?" I say, and I can hear the noise of cars from his end of the call.
"I’ve been waiting for a certain omega in white to find and rob me" he says and I turn around quickly to find him.
My anxiety is completely gone just from the sound of his voice, and excitement is in its place.
"W-where are you?" I ask and he hums, "I didn’t have to tell you where I was on that night, did I, little thief?" he asks.
He’s here.
"You looked so worried...did you think I would miss a chance to be with you?" he asks and I turn around again.
"I found you" I grin at him. He’s standing at a small distance from me with his phone pressed to his ear. He’s wearing the suit he left home in.
"How long have you been there?" I say softly and his eyes show a hint of a smile even though his lips aren’t smiling.
"Long enough to know you went to that store to buy an orange flavored juice box" he says, taking slow steps towards me.
In no time, he is here and hugging me tightly.
"I thought you wouldn’t come" I confess, hugging his waist tightly and pressing my ear against his chest.
"If I didn’t come, then someone might have kidnapped, but then I would have killed them and found my way to you" he says and I frown.
I can never get used to how graphic Taesan is.
"Uh..." I say and pull away from him. He looks down at me with warmth in his dark foxlike eyes as I hold up the bag of juice and snacks.
"Happy birthday, Kang Taesan" I say, blushing as he continues to stare at me. "You’re supposed to take it and say thank you" I mutter.
"Sorry, I just got older today, I didn’t realize the younger generation did it that way" he teases and I press my lips together.
"Take" I push it towards him and he takes the bag.
"Thank you, Seoha" he says and presses a kiss to the side of my head, "now what?" he asks and I drop my eyes to the sand under our feet.
"We walk and h-hold hands..." I trail off, hoping my cheeks don’t burst into flames in public.
"Come here, Bambi" he says and takes my hand in his.
My omega lets out a happy whine at the feel of the alpha’s warm hand. His wide palm swallows mine, and it makes me feel so safe.
"This is already a beautiful birthday" Taesan says, looking up at the clear sky.
"Really? Are you okay with this?" I ask and he swings our hand, that’s when I notice he’s blushing too.
"I like this. It feels natural, you and me" he mutters, looking everywhere but me.
"I’m too used to stiff offices and practiced dinner meetings, this feels freeing" he swings our hand harder, and my lips stretch into a smile.
Why does my chest feel so warm?
"I’m glad you like this" I say softly.
We walk in silence for a while before Taesan finally takes out his juice box and chocolate bar.
"You want?" he asks and I nod, smiling as the alpha opens it, giving me the first sip of the orange juice before taking it back.
"This is really...delicious" he says when he takes a small sip.
"It’s my favorite one" I grin proudly, happy that he likes my taste. "We can listen to music together" I pull out my wired earphones.
"I’ve seen this in movies" Taesan says and I tilt my head. I didn’t know the alpha watched movies. "What type of movies do you like?" I ask, putting one of the buds in and passing the other one to Taesan.
"Silly rom coms" he says and my lips form an o.
"Is this right? The earphone is too short" he says and I pout. It’s his fault for being too tall.
"We can just talk" I offer, stuffing the earphones back into my pocket and Taesan laughs. "You’re too short"
"You’re too tall" I throw at him and he ruffles my hair, that annoying habit of his.
"How is our pup, did our baby treat you good today?" Taesan asks and I nod, feeling butterflies in my stomach.
"Good" he says, taking the last sip of his juice box and dropping the empty box in the bag.
"Do you like music?" I ask randomly.
"I’m not sure, I haven’t spent any time in my life with music" he says and I feel sad for him, how can anyone not be sure if they love music?
"When we get home, I’ll show you some fun music" I tell the alpha and he squeezes my hand.
"Home" he repeats the word.
Did I just call his house ’home’?
"I like that you can call it home" he says and lifts my hand to kiss it. I release a breath of relief at his gesture.
"But we might have to go home right now" Taesan says and I blink twice, "why?" I ask and he points at the sky.
"Oh no, rain" I whine. This wasn’t part of my plan! Why can’t I do anything right?
The sky, which had been perfectly clear, suddenly turns grey, and before I can say anything else, the sky starts to pour.
"Run!" Taesan yells.
I yelp as the cold water soaks my hair, but when I look at the alpha...my heart stops. He’s laughing with the biggest smile on his face as it rains over us.
His smile is so big and so infectious that I start to laugh and run with him.
Oh, so this is what it feels like to be in love...
