Chapter 196: You don’t understand

Seoha’s POV

Within seconds, the door I’m blocking with my body becomes the weapon that forces me forward.

"Argh!" I let out a startled shout as Junho barges into the small space with his large body.

My lower back slams into a washbowl and Hanbin lets out an intimidating growl at Junho, shielding me with his body.

"Junho" Hanbin warns and Junho only lifts his chin, towering over Hanbin by a few inches.

"Get out of my way, Ghost" Junho says in a cold and terrifying voice.

Taesan’s anger comes with loud aggression and violence, but Junho’s anger...I’ve never seen anything like it.

Junho might be a beta, but the intimidation rolling off him is powerful enough to make my omega whimper in surrender.

"Hyung..." I whisper, gripping Hanbin’s shirt tightly.

All the confidence and boldness that I thought I had gathered with Taesan suddenly turns to ash.

"Get out of my way" Junho repeats.

My eyes zero in on the one hand resting over his jacket. From the bulge I can see, it’s very obvious that he’s reaching for a gun.

"Hyung, please" I say again.

I am already regretting my actions but I chose to keep my mating bond shut. I don’t want Taesan’s alpha to feel my fear.

"I won’t let you touch my little brother, Junho" Hanbin says, protecting me from the man who drives me around like a chauffeur.

"Seoha, tell me truthfully, how much do you know?" Junho asks, ignoring my older halfbrother.

"I don’t know anything" I say, squeezing Hanbin’s shirt even tighter.

"Lying right now can cost Taesan his life" Junho says, moving forward as he says each word and I cower behind Hanbin.

"He’s not lying" Hanbin speaks up for me.

I don’t know what to make of this situation, I’m too scared.

I just wanted to help...I just want to do what everyone else won’t do. Everyone cares about what they get from Taesan, but no one stands up for him.

"I’m not lying. Taesan was on call, he’s looking for direct contact to the people called the Gods..." I pour out the only things I know.

"What else?" Junho asks and I shake my head.

"What else, Seoha?" he asks again, pulling out his gun and cocking it in one swift motion.

"Rahh!" Hanbin roars, knocking Junho down as he jumps forward.

The beta and my brother start to fight, throwing punches and landing violent blows on each other.

"Hyung!" I shout in fear, I don’t know which one of them I’m calling out for, but I join their tangled mess.

"Hyung! Don’t!" I yell, reaching out blindly and pulling Junho out.

The beta grabs me by the throat and slams me into the wall. Pain shoots through me and I gasp as my throat closes up from the impact.

"You! You’re trouble!" he shouts in my face.

"Ever since you came into Taesan’s life, you tilted all the balance, it’s because of you!" Junho says and I shut my eyes as if it would dull the pain.

"Get your hands off him, Junho, I’m warning you" Hanbin says from behind us, holding up Junho’s gun and panting as his finger dance over the trigger.

"I don’t want to hurt Taesan" I wheeze.

"I love him too much, I just want to help..." I cry out, struggling to get the beta’s hand off my neck.

"Help by staying the fuck out of our way" he spits out before letting go.

Hanbin catches me with one hand while the other one keeps his gun held up, "are you okay?" he asks and I shake my head, feeling my neck for the effect of Junho’s attack.

"I’m not..." I say truthfully while coughing harshly.

"I-I’m sorry" Junho says as he grabs his head. The man looks frustrated as he squats in front of me.

"I’m sorry"

"You fucker!" Junho says and I have to hold on to him to stop him from attacking.

"Please...just...please..." I whisper to stop him while shaking my head slowly.

"I would never hurt Taesan, hyung" I say with a rough voice.

"You wouldn’t want to, but you will, Seoha. You don’t understand how this works" Junho says and I feel tears well up in my eyes.

"Then tell me, tell me how it works" I say and he scoffs.

"Do you know how his mother died?" Junho asks and I nod.

"Haseul-ssi was only supposed to be a breeding tool. Get married to Kang, get pregnant with his pup, die as a mother to his pup...that’s all he was meant to do" Junho starts and I brace myself.

Hanbin is still growling protectively; the sound is low enough that it doesn’t catch too much attention but it’s loud enough to keep Junho away from me.

"But Haseul was not a regular omega, he cared. He knew when Taesan’s father was struggling and he involved himself in everything in order to help. But that ’help’ led to his death"

"I’m not Haseul-nim" I say in a strong voice.

I’m not Taesan’s mother. I am Taesan’s mate.

"You think Taesan doesn’t know that?" Junho raises his voice, running his fingers through his hair again before speaking.

"You think...damnit, you don’t know the mark his mother’s death left on him. You don’t understand"

"Stop saying I don’t understand, and make me understand...please" I say, leaning my tired body into Hanbin.

"Grandfather plays a psychological game, he knows you’re Taesan’s weakness...he knows using Sooin won’t work as well as it used to. Seoha, if Taesan goes down, it might be your fault" Junho says.

"And it’s also because of you that he’s willing to give everything up. He wants to end it by calling the Gods to help...because of you"

His tone is filled with more sadness than spite for me.

"Do you hate me?" I ask in pain, chest tightening from how he’s looking at me.

"No, Seoha...I don’t hate you. I just love Taesan too much to see him give his life to the Deus family"

"Then help me, help us" I whisper without holding back my tears this time.

I’m going to save Taesan. I won’t die like his mother did. I’m going to save him, I swear I will.
