Chapter 190: Sacrifice for you

Taesan’s POV

The omega passes out after I force his system to shut down with my pheromones.

He falls into my arms like a rag doll and I catch him, carrying him bridal-style gently.

I take him to my car and put him in the back seat. I adjust his posture to make sure he won’t feel pain when he wakes.

I can protect him from physical pain, but I can’t do anything about the pain I just inflicted on him.

Seoha looked wrecked back there.

I get into the driver seat and grab the wheels. And as the events of the past few minutes replay in my head, I force myself to stay above the mental water swallowing me up.

Fuck.

When Ghost told me what Seoha’s parents did to my parents, I attacked him and kicked him out of my mind. What a fucking hypocrite I am.

Putting my collar on him before telling him the truth was intentional.

Yes, I wanted to chain him to me, I wanted to keep him forever with me...he can hate me while staying by my side.

Who would punish me for the way my entire bloodline has only inflicted damage on him?

"Arggh!" I roar in the car, slamming my head back against the seat.

My chest is burning with rage.

I don’t want to hurt Seoha, but I always do it anyways. I tried to tell him in a gentle way, but there’s no fucking bone of gentleness in me.

I hate it.

I hate myself.

"FUCK!" I yell, punching the steering of my car till my knuckles turn bloody and raw, throbbing with pain.

"I’m sorry, I’m so sorry Seoha, I’m fucking sorry" I bow my head, crying the words to the sleeping omega like he can hear me.

In my world, sorrys and thank yous don’t matter...but what can I give for how much I have done to him?

"I’ll win every battle for you, I promise you that, treasure" I say to the air.

I’ll do my best.

The night grows colder and darker before I finally drive away, taking the omega to his grandmother’s house.

I wipe my hands on my pants before picking him up.

I would hate to leave my bloodstains on him; I only want him with beautiful things on his skin...not blood and dirt.

The omega snuggles closer to me, instinctively seeking me out even in his sleep.

"Alpha..." he mutters in his sleep, pressing his snot-wet nose to my neck, and I growl in response.

’I’m here’ my alpha is saying, and his body relaxes as I take him in.

The girls are asleep on the mat, and I place him next to Sooin.

The moment I place Seoha down, my little girl turns around to bury her nose in Seoha’s neck, grabbing my shirt in her sleep.

This makes my reality even more...real.

They are really mother and child, they look so beautiful together...my world, my sanity, and my humanity.

"Look at you, destroying yourself" Seoha’s grandmother says from the shadow.

Her voice startles me and I slowly turn to find her there; she’s sitting on a rocking chair with a ball of wool and two knitting needles in her hands.

"I will destroy more than myself for them" I confess, and the woman starts to hum, getting up from the seat to get a first aid box.

"Come here" she says, beckoning for me to sit outside with her.

My legs move before I even give them permission to. I’m fucking tired, but I feel...free.

She takes my hand and starts to treat my injury, dabbing the fresh injuries with disinfectant soaked cotton balls.

She knows everything that’s going on, I don’t know what she did to me, but I spilled everything to her without reservations.

"Your problem is that you don’t think things through" the old woman says and I frown at the accusation.

If I don’t think things through, I wouldn’t have my empire built up in this cruel world.

"There is no denying that you are strong, but Taesan, you lack sense" she continues and I zone out.

"I don’t" I say absentmindedly, staring into the space ahead of us; I want to fucking tune her out, but I just can’t.

"If you don’t lack sense, would you hurt yourself like this? Huh? What will you tell your daughter when she sees it in the morning?"

I don’t know.

"You have an intelligent child. Sooin is a blessing, she might not be biologically yours but she’s your daughter through and through"

The woman pats my now bandaged hand and I stare at it.

"I want to win over my grandfather for them" I whisper and she smiles.

It’s the smile of a grandparent that has been here longer than I have; she has seen things, she knows things.

"Dear boy, you will win. And maybe, if you’re noble enough the divine will be on your side" she leans in and kisses my forehead.

"Come in and sleep soon, tomorrow is another day" she says and gets up, old bone cracking as she stretched her back.

"Goodnight, grandma" I say, whispering the word ’grandma’.

"Goodnight, son" she responds.

When I’m alone, I pull out my phone and make a call to my righthand man.

Junho accepts the call immediately, and I can already hear him leaving the room he’s in.

"You’re calling at a wrong time" he says.

"Minjae?" I ask and at the lack of response, I already have my answer from him.

He’s with Minjae. At least that wild squirrel is safe.

"Has anyone heard from my grandfather?" I ask, looking at the bandaged hand.

"No, boss"

"Is he planning something? Fortify security around Mountain Atelier-" I start to give order with the need to keep mine save.

"He’s hiding out of shame" Taesan says and I pause, frowning at the darkness in front of me.

"Why?" I ask.

"The guitar is at your vault. Ghost and I came up with a plan and gave Kang a fake password" Junho says and I straighten my spine.

"And you didn’t tell me?" I say with a low growl.

"I needed you to focus on your family, not this...mess" Junho says and the gentle words cause me to relax slightly as I let out a sigh.

He’s not trying to hurt me...I need to stop anticipating his betrayal. Unfortunate, Yuki’s betrayal fucked me up.

"What do we do next?" I ask, and instead of a quick response, my righthand man releases a sigh.

"We will figure it out" he says.

It means he doesn’t have a plan.

"We outsmarted him once, do you think that man will wait for us to do it again?" I ask, still studying the bandage on my hand.

"He won’t" Junho admits.

We both stay silent for a few seconds, and I hear a knock from Junho’s side of the call; Minjae is checking on him.

"Junho" I call and he hums.

"When mortals are at their end, what do they do?" I ask.

"They turn to the divine" he mutters. "Yes" I say in agreement, and I can imagine the frown etching itself onto his face.

"Are you suggesting we...pray?" he asks and I almost laugh.

I, Kang Taesan don’t pray to the moon goddess; not after I begged her for my mother’s life and got nothing in return.

"No, Jun. I suggest we ask the Gods to intervene"

"Kang Taesan. No" Junho says abruptly.

"Yes, Junho" I say.

"Damnit! Don’t think of doing anything stupid out of desperation" he advices me.

"It’s not stupid. I can’t handle him without becoming a beast, and I love Sooin and Seoha too much to be that man"

"Think, Taesan, Gods always demand for sacrifices...what are you going to sacrifice?" Junho asks.

What am I going to sacrifice?
