Chapter 301: Chapter 301: A Meal Meant to Kill Adrian

When night fell, the heavy tension that had hung over the estate for days finally dissipated. Matteo and Adrian retreated to their bedroom, falling asleep peacefully in each other’s arms, tangled together in a warm, comforting cuddle.

Meanwhile, back at Owen’s mansion, his patience was wearing dangerously thin.

Two of Matteo’s housemaids had already refused his offers without hesitation, hanging up on him the moment they realized what he wanted.

But Owen wasn’t ready to give up.

On his third attempt, he finally found someone willing to listen.

One of the maids inside the estate lowered her voice before speaking into the phone.

"I can get whatever you want into his food," she whispered, her tone tense but laced with greed. "But it’s going to cost you."

A slow smirk spread across Owen’s face as he leaned back in his chair.

"Name your price," he said. "If you do this properly, you’ll never have to work another day in your life."

It didn’t take long for them to agree on a staggering amount of money.

Once the deal was struck, the maid revealed the information Owen had been waiting for.

"Boss is leaving on a business trip tomorrow," she said. "He’ll be away for exactly three days."

Owen’s smile widened. "Three days..." he murmured.

"Once he’s away, I’ll have enough time to get the job done," the maid continued.

"Perfect," Owen said coldly. "See to it that Adrian finishes everything placed in front of him. I don’t want a single drop wasted."

"Okay. I understand," the maid said. "I’ll make sure it’s done."

"Perfect," Owen said coldly before ending the call.

The next morning, the bedroom was quiet. The night before, Adrian had happily helped Matteo pack his suitcase, carefully folding his favorite shirts and making sure everything was in its proper place. Now, the suitcase stood by the door, a silent reminder that it was finally time for Matteo to leave.

Just as Matteo was about to climb out of bed and get ready for his flight, Adrian swung one leg over his lap, effectively pinning him in place. Wrapping his arms around Matteo’s neck, he wore a mischievous little pout.

"Let’s have sex one last time before you leave," Adrian said with a playful grin.

He meant it as nothing more than a teasing request.

But the word "last" made Matteo’s heart skip a beat.

In an instant, Adrian’s nightmare came rushing back to him, the fear in his eyes, the way he had begged him not to leave, and the unsettling feeling that something terrible was waiting for them.

Matteo’s expression softened. He gently pulled Adrian’s hands from around his neck and brought them to his lips, pressing a lingering kiss against his knuckles.

"No, baby," he said softly, shaking his head. "Not today. My flight leaves in a few hours, and I don’t have much time left."

He smiled reassuringly.

"When I come home, I promise we’ll spend all the time you want in this bed."

Adrian whined, leaning down to press pleading kisses to Matteo’s jaw. "Please, Daddy? Just one quick round?"

Matteo chuckled before shaking his head again.

"No, baby."

He sat up and pulled Adrian into his lap, wrapping both arms tightly around him.

"I need you to stay home, behave yourself, and wait for me to come back. Can you do that for me?"

Adrian let out a disappointed huff before burying his face against Matteo’s shoulder.

"Okay, Daddy."

Matteo finally climbed out of bed, took a shower, got dressed, and finished getting ready for his flight. After fastening his watch around his wrist, he glanced at the time.

He still had a little time before he needed to leave.

Without a second thought, Matteo smiled to himself, slipped off his shoes, and climbed back into bed.

Adrian looked at him in surprise.

"I thought you were leaving."

"Not yet," Matteo replied, wrapping an arm around Adrian’s waist and pulling him close. "I still have a little time left, and I’d rather spend it with you."

Adrian’s face immediately brightened.

They spent the remaining time tangled beneath the covers, talking about nothing in particular, stealing soft kisses, and simply enjoying each other’s company until the sound of engines starting outside reminded them that it was finally time for Matteo to leave.

Adrian offered a small smile. "I’ll come to the airport with you."

Matteo gently cupped his face and shook his head. "No, baby."

He rested his forehead against Adrian’s. "I don’t want a goodbye, baby," he whispered. "I just want to leave knowing you’ll be here waiting for me when I come home."

He pressed a slow, lingering kiss to Adrian’s lips before pulling back just enough to look into his eyes.

"Stay inside the estate. Don’t go anywhere unless it’s necessary."

Adrian nodded. "I won’t."

"Good." Matteo smiled faintly. "I’ll call you the moment I land." With one last kiss, Matteo reluctantly let him go.

A few minutes later, the two of them walked downstairs together. Matteo stepped out of the mansion, flanked by his heavily armed security detail.

Adrian remained standing at the entrance, watching until the convoy disappeared through the estate gates.

True to his word, Adrian stayed inside the mansion after Matteo left, rarely stepping outside the master bedroom. He spent most of the afternoon pacing the room, sketching whenever he could to distract himself, and constantly checking his phone, waiting for Matteo’s call.

By late night, Matteo’s name finally flashed across the screen.

He had landed safely, checked into his hotel, and was already settling into his room.

The moment Adrian heard Matteo’s familiar voice, the tight knot of anxiety in his chest slowly unraveled.

They talked for nearly an hour, laughing together and promising how much they would fuck each other once Matteo returned home.

That day, Adrian ate without worry.

The first day of Matteo’s absence passed without a single incident.

The second day seemed just as uneventful.

Adrian ate his breakfast, lunch, and dinner as usual, his appetite fully restored. He spent hours talking to Matteo over the phone, laughing, teasing him, and complaining about how much he missed him.

Everything appeared perfectly normal.

The third day arrived, and the morning passed in quiet peace. Adrian ate his breakfast without a care in the world, counting down the hours until Matteo’s return the following day.

When evening fell, Selene prepared a fresh, hot dinner in the kitchen. She plated it beautifully, preparing to take it upstairs herself. However, she was stopped by Bella, who stepped forward with an innocent, helpful smile.

"I can take that up to him, Selene," Bella offered smoothly. "You’ve been on your feet all day. Let me handle it."

Selene, tired from the long day, smiled gratefully. "Thank you, Bella. Make sure he eats all of it."

Bella took the heavy silver tray, her pulse quickening as she made her way up the grand staircase toward the master bedroom. Slipping into a dim, empty hallway, she glanced around to make sure no one was watching before pulling a small vial from the pocket of her apron.

With trembling hands, she uncapped it and poured the clear, odorless liquid directly into the rich gravy of Adrian’s dinner, stirring it in quickly until it vanished without a trace.

Smoothing down her apron and taking a deep, steadying breath, Bella walked the remaining distance to the master bedroom. She knocked softly and pushed the door open.

Adrian was sitting comfortably on the bed, looking up from his tablet as she entered.

Bella walked over to the bedside table, placing the poisoned tray down with a polite, practiced bow.

"Sir, your dinner is here," she said...
