Chapter 296: Chapter 296: Daddy Made Breakfast

Charles wrapped his arms securely around Mark’s neck, hiding a giddy smile against his shoulder as Mark carried him out of the villa and toward the beautifully lit tent by the pool, where the real, relentless rounds of the night were waiting to begin.

Back at Matteo’s estate, the master bedroom was silent except for the soft, steady breathing of Adrian, who slept peacefully on the bed.

Matteo stood beside the bed for a long moment, quietly looking down at his partner. The warm glow of the bedside lamp illuminated Adrian’s slightly flushed face, his lips parted as he slept off the alcohol.

Although Adrian had spoken about his confrontation with Owen as though he had won, Matteo knew better. He knew exactly how petty, volatile, and dangerous men like Owen could be. Someone like Owen wouldn’t simply swallow that kind of humiliation. He would find a way to retaliate.

Matteo’s expression darkened. He had no intention of waiting for Owen to make the first move.

After one last glance at Adrian, Matteo quietly walked back to the dark leather sofa in the corner of the room. Once he was seated, he took his phone from his pocket, scrolled to Owen’s number, and pressed the call button.

The first call rang until it went unanswered.

Without the slightest hesitation, Matteo dialed again.

On the second ring, the line clicked open.

Owen’s voice came through immediately, defensive and laced with forced bravado. "Are you calling to threaten me because of your boyfriend? You should know I didn’t do anything to him. He was the one who was rude and disrespectful to me."

Matteo said nothing.

He let Owen finish speaking, his face remaining an unreadable mask of cold indifference. Even after the line fell silent, Matteo waited another moment before finally responding.

"I’m not calling to threaten you, Owen. The first reason I’m calling is to apologize. If Adrian said anything tonight that offended you, then I apologize on his behalf."

Silence answered him.

Owen sat frozen with the phone pressed against his ear, completely caught off guard. Never in his wildest imagination had he expected someone like Matteo to apologize to him.

"...What?" Owen asked in disbelief.

"I apologize," Matteo repeated, his tone as calm and courteous as before. "For anything Adrian may have said that offended you."

Matteo continued before Owen could recover.

"Now that I’ve apologized, listen carefully, because I’m only going to say this once." His voice remained calm, but every word carried an overwhelming weight. "Charles is part of my family, and anyone connected to my family is under my protection. I don’t care what history the two of you shared, and I don’t care how obsessed you are with him. From this moment forward, stay away from him."

His tone lowered another degree.

"And while you’re at it, don’t even think about laying a finger on anyone I care about. If you do..." Matteo paused briefly. "I won’t simply kill you. I’ll strip away everything you’ve spent your life building before I bury you. Your businesses, your money, your reputation, your influence... I’ll destroy every last piece of it until people forget you ever existed."

His voice never changed. "I don’t enjoy making threats, Owen. I simply make sure people understand the consequences of disappointing me."

Owen finally found his voice.

"...Are you threatening me?"

A faint smile touched Matteo’s lips, though there wasn’t a trace of warmth behind it.

"No."

He leaned back against the sofa.

"I’m showing you the mercy of a warning. Don’t make me introduce you to my cruelty."

Before Owen could even find the words to respond, Matteo pulled the phone away from his ear and ended the call, leaving the room to sink back into a heavy silence.

Back at Owen’s mansion, he remained seated in his lavish living room, his phone still clutched tightly in his hand as he stared at the dark screen. He sat there in stunned silence, struggling to process what had just happened. Never in his life had he imagined that Matteo, a man feared throughout the city, would personally call to apologize, only to follow it with a calm, merciless promise of death.

After listening to Owen recount the entire phone call, his lead bodyguard stood frozen in disbelief.

"Boss... you should let this go," he said carefully. "Matteo personally called to apologize and warn you. We can’t afford to make an enemy of a man like him."

A twisted smile gradually spread across his face before he let out a quiet laugh. "No," he whispered, his eyes gleaming with dangerous excitement. "Don’t you see? That’s exactly what makes this so interesting."

He rose from his seat and began pacing slowly across the room, the smile on his face growing wider with every step.

"Do you realize what just happened?" he asked, glancing at his bodyguard. "A man like Matteo Marcone swallowed his pride and called me himself. That alone tells me everything I need to know. He treasures that bastard more than I ever imagined."

A cold laugh escaped his lips. "I’ve finally found the one weakness of the great Matteo Marcone."

"Boss, please," the bodyguard pleaded, his voice filled with unease. "Don’t do this. You’re picking a fight with someone we can’t defeat. Matteo won’t stop until every one of us is dead."

"Shut up!" Owen snapped, spinning around to glare at him. His eyes burned with venom before the rage on his face slowly melted into a chilling smile.

He turned back to the window.

"Do you know what excites me the most?" he asked quietly. "Watching powerful men lose everything they love."

His smile widened.

"I can’t wait to see Matteo Marcone fall apart. I want to watch him break. I want to see the man everyone fears brought to his knees by the loss of the person he treasures most."

His eyes darkened with obsession.

"Only then will I be satisfied."

The bodyguard wanted to say more, but one look at Owen’s face told him it would be pointless. The obsession in his eyes had already consumed him, and no amount of reason would change his mind.

As the night slowly slipped away, darkness gave way to the quiet light of a new morning.

Downstairs, in the estate’s sprawling kitchen, an unusual sight was unfolding.

Matteo, dressed simply in a loose gray shirt with the sleeves rolled up to his forearms, stood in front of the stove. For some time now, he had been secretly learning how to cook through online cooking classes and YouTube videos, determined to surprise the person he loved.

This morning, he was finally putting everything he had learned into practice, preparing a gourmet breakfast with the calm focus and precision of a professional chef.

A faint, genuine smile rested on Matteo’s lips as he carefully plated each dish, quietly humming to himself.

Standing near the kitchen entrance, Selene, the head chef, watched him with a warm, approving smile. It warmed her heart to see a man as powerful and intimidating as Matteo willingly step into the kitchen just to prepare breakfast for the person he loved.

But not everyone shared her happiness.

A few steps behind her, Bella stood with several of the junior maids, silently watching everything unfold. Her eyes burned with bitter jealousy as she watched Matteo carefully arrange the fresh fruit before pouring a cup of tea with the same patience and care.

Her fingers slowly curled into her palms.

How can someone like Adrian be this lucky? Bella thought bitterly. A man like Matteo powerful, wealthy, respected, and unbelievably handsome, shouldn’t be doing all of this for another man. I should be the one in Adrian’s place.

He doesn’t deserve someone like Matteo... I do.

Bella scoffed inwardly, a dangerous thought quietly taking root in her mind. If getting Adrian out of the picture was the only way to have Matteo, then so be it. She would find a way. No matter what it took.

Completely oblivious to the quiet malice brewing in one corner of the kitchen, Matteo finished plating the breakfast. He carefully placed the gourmet meal alongside a freshly brewed cup of hangover tea on a polished silver tray before carrying it upstairs himself.

When Matteo stepped back into their bedroom, the curtains were still drawn, leaving the room wrapped in a warm, cozy dimness. Adrian was still fast asleep, buried beneath the plush duvet.

Matteo set the breakfast tray gently on the bedside table before quietly climbing onto the bed beside him.

The moment Adrian felt the mattress dip beneath Matteo’s weight, he let out a sleepy groan and instinctively rolled onto his other side, hugging a pillow and burying his face deeper into it, clearly unwilling to face the morning.

A soft chuckle escaped Matteo’s lips.

He slipped one hand beneath Adrian’s loose shirt, his warm palm gliding slowly over the smooth skin of his waist and ribs in gentle, soothing strokes. Leaning down, he pressed a lingering kiss against Adrian’s bare shoulder.

"Good morning, baby," Matteo murmured, his deep voice rich with affection. "Wake up."

Adrian stirred, letting out a sleepy, muffled whine.

"Mmm... leave me alone..."

Matteo smiled to himself before playfully brushing another kiss against his shoulder.

"Wake up, baby," he whispered. "Daddy made you breakfast."

Adrian froze for a second.

His nose twitched as the rich, mouthwatering aroma drifted toward him. Slowly, he lowered the pillow from his face, taking another deep breath as the delicious scent filled his senses.

"It smells so good..." he mumbled. "Did you really make it?"

Matteo smiled proudly.

"Why don’t you come and see for yourself?"

Adrian finally rolled over...
