Chapter 290: Chapter 290: A Dangerous Obsession New Target

"Who said I’d leave any trace of what I’m planning?" he asked, a chilling smile spreading across his face.

The driver tightened his grip on the steering wheel before speaking cautiously.

"Boss... I hope you’re not planning to kidnap him or do something reckless."

Owen scoffed. "How am I supposed to get to him?" he sneered. "Matteo keeps him locked away like a precious treasure, surrounded by bodyguards every second of the day."

A dark smile slowly spread across his face. "But sooner or later..." he murmured, "...Matteo will leave for work."

He leaned back against the leather seat, his eyes turning cold. "Imagine him coming home... only to find Adrian’s corpse waiting for him."

The bodyguard’s blood ran cold. He slowly turned to stare at Owen, unable to hide the shock on his face. "Boss..." he said quietly. "What exactly are you planning?"

Owen leaned forward, his eyes burning with a dangerous obsession as he gripped the back of the passenger seat.

"Find me someone from Matteo’s inner circle," Owen said. "One of the servants. A maid, a chef... anyone with access to the house. Someone greedy. Someone who can be bought. I don’t care how much it costs, I’ll pay whatever it takes."

His expression twisted with hatred. "I want Adrian dead. No one has ever humiliated me the way he did today. He crossed the line, and he’s going to pay for it with his life."

The bodyguard fell silent.

He knew trying to change Owen’s mind would be pointless.

After a long, heavy silence, he gave a reluctant nod.

"Understood, boss," he replied quietly. "I’ll see what I can find."

Owen narrowed his eyes as he stared out at the passing city lights, a cold, twisted smile slowly spreading across his face. "Charles isn’t my target anymore," he said quietly. "Taking Adrian away from this world... that’s what will finally satisfy me."

"Understood, boss," the bodyguard replied before turning back to face the road.

Back inside the lounge, the heavy tension had finally begun to fade.

"But Owen didn’t have this kind of influence before," Frank said, shaking his head. "Years ago, I remember beating the hell out of him. How the hell did he suddenly build this much power around himself?"

Adrian let out a quiet sigh. "He has the money, Frank. And with that kind of money comes power. People like Owen start believing they can have anything they want because they can pay for almost anything."

Charles lowered his gaze to his hands before speaking softly. "Knowing the kind of person he was, I’m honestly not surprised. Owen has always been toxic. His obsession just kept getting worse until it reached this point."

Before Frank could respond, Adrian’s phone suddenly vibrated on the table.

He glanced at the screen, and the stern expression on his face instantly melted into alarm.

"Matteo," he breathed.

He quickly looked down at his wristwatch. "Oh my God... is it really this late?" He immediately pushed his chair back and stood up. "I have to go. Matteo should be home by now."

Frank chuckled, shaking his head with an amused smile. "Adrian, you really surprise me these days. Who would’ve thought you’d end up this whipped?"

Adrian smiled proudly, his eyes softening with genuine affection. "I’m deeply in love with the right man, so of course I have to behave." He let out a quiet laugh. "Besides, he treats me the same way."

Charles couldn’t help but smile. "Look at you," he teased. "You’ve turned into a total loverboy."

Adrian laughed as he adjusted his shirt.

"Look who’s talking," he shot back playfully. "Come on, let’s head out together."

As Charles and Frank picked up their belongings and got to their feet, Adrian’s phone rang again.

A smile immediately spread across his face.

Without hesitation, he answered the call and lifted the phone to his ear.

"Hello, Daddy," Adrian said sweetly, his voice instantly turning soft. "I’m on my way."

Matteo’s deep, velvety voice came through the speaker. "I’m home already. I’m waiting for you."

Adrian smiled even wider. "Okay, Daddy. I love you."

"I love you too, baby," Matteo murmured.

"I’ll be home soon." With that, Adrian ended the call, the bright smile on his face refusing to fade.

Charles and Frank looked at Adrian with knowing smiles.

Adrian rubbed the back of his neck shyly before letting out a small laugh.

"What?" he asked. "I love him."

Charles and Frank exchanged a glance before answering in perfect unison. "We know."

The three of them burst into laughter as they stepped out of the warm lounge and into the cool evening air.

They made their way across the parking lot toward their cars.

Just as they were about to reach them, a sleek black car glided smoothly into the parking lot.

The vehicle came to a stop, and the doors opened.

Mark stepped out first, with Tony close behind him.

Mark’s eyes immediately searched the group before softening the moment they found Charles.

He smiled warmly before turning to Adrian.

"Hey, Adrian."

Then he nodded politely toward Frank. "Frank."

Frank returned the greeting with a nod.

Adrian smiled brightly and lifted a hand in greeting.

His smile widened as he caught the unmistakable love in Mark’s eyes when he looked at Charles.

For a brief moment, Adrian remembered the promise he had made to himself, to teach Mark a lesson for hurting Charles in the past.

But not tonight.

Matteo was already waiting for him at home, and nothing was going to stop him from getting back to his man.

As they exchanged greetings, Adrian noticed Tony watching him with his usual calm, unreadable expression.

A mischievous grin spread across Adrian’s face.

He flashed Tony an exaggerated flying kiss.

"What’s with the staring, Tony?" Adrian teased. "Don’t tell me you’ve become obsessed with me now."

Tony rolled his eyes heavenward, a look of pure exasperation crossing his face. "Please don’t even start, Adrian."

Adrian burst into a bright, carefree laugh.

One of Matteo’s bodyguards stepped forward and opened the rear door of the car for him.

Adrian turned back and waved at Mark, Charles, and Frank one last time.

"Goodnight, everyone!"

"Goodnight," they replied almost in unison.

With a satisfied smile, Adrian slid into the back seat. Moments later, the car pulled smoothly out of the parking lot, its taillights soon disappearing into the night.

Left behind, Mark, Charles, Frank, and Tony exchanged a few final farewells before heading to their own vehicles. One by one, they drove out of the parking lot, each going their separate ways.

Inside the quiet comfort of their luxury car, Mark and Charles settled into the back seat as the driver steered them into the night traffic. The events of the day had left both of them mentally and physically drained.

Charles turned to look at Mark, his eyes filled with quiet concern. He gently reached over and placed his hand over Mark’s. "How was work, honey?" he asked softly. "Were the meetings stressful?"

Mark smiled faintly and turned his hand over, intertwining their fingers.

"I’m okay, baby," he replied. "The meetings were a little stressful, but I’m fine now that I’m with you."

A relieved smile spread across Charles’s face. "I’m glad."

Mark gently squeezed his hand before looking at him more closely.

"What about you?" he asked. "How was your day? Did you have a good time with Adrian and Frank?"

Charles’s smile slowly faded.

He lowered his eyes for a brief moment before speaking. "It was nice..." he said quietly. "But Owen showed up."

The atmosphere inside the car changed instantly.

Mark’s entire body tensed. He turned toward Charles so quickly that concern flashed plainly across his face.

"What?" he asked, his voice suddenly sharp.

Without another thought, he carefully ran his hands over Charles’s arms and shoulders, checking him for any injuries. "Did he hurt you? Are you okay, Charles?"

Charles quickly shook his head and placed a reassuring hand on Mark’s chest.

"No, I’m okay," he said gently. "I promise."

He let out a quiet breath. "Adrian was there with me, and Matteo’s bodyguards stepped in before anything serious could happen."

His voice grew quieter. "I just... Hope he never comes near me again. I hate seeing him anywhere near me."

Hearing that Adrian and Matteo’s bodyguards had stepped in eased the immediate panic gripping Mark’s chest, but it only strengthened his determination to keep Charles safe.

He slipped an arm securely around Charles’s waist and gently pulled him closer.

"You don’t have to worry about him anymore, pretty," Mark said softly. "He won’t come near you again. From now on, I’m going to protect you even more. I won’t give him another chance to get anywhere near you."

Charles rested his head against Mark’s chest and let out a slow, contented breath.

"Thank you, baby."

A comfortable silence settled over them as the car glided through the evening traffic.

After a while, Charles turned his attention to the view outside, quietly watching the city lights pass by.

Then something caught his attention.

His brows knitted together.

The familiar route leading back to Mark’s house was nowhere in sight.

He sat up slightly and looked through the windshield.

"Honey?" he asked, puzzled. "Did the driver miss the turn? We’re going the wrong way."

Mark didn’t even look up. A faint, knowing smile tugged at the corners of his lips as he kept his arm wrapped around Charles.

"He’s going the right way."

Charles frowned, curiosity flickering across his face as he turned back to Mark. "Then where are we going?"

A soft smile tugged at Mark’s lips...
