Chapter 264: Chapter 264: Before the Wedding Bells

Time passed quickly, and before anyone knew it, the morning of Maya’s wedding had arrived.

Early that morning, the room was bathed in a soft, dim dawn light. Adrian woke up first, shifting slightly on the mattress to turn toward Matteo’s side of the bed. Propending on one elbow, he lay there quietly, his eyes washing over Matteo’s sleeping face in absolute admiration.

Wow, my baby is just too handsome... Adrian thought to himself, a warm, soft smile gracing his lips.

He looked at Matteo’s sharp jawline and his little messy hair. Unable to resist the temptation, Adrian reached out a hand, his fingertips feather-light as he gently touched Matteo’s smooth cheek, tracing down to the bridge of his straight nose.

His fingers wandered down, lightly brushing against Matteo’s broad chest, feeling the steady, comforting rise and fall of his breathing. Finally, Adrian’s thumb came to rest on Matteo’s lower lip, tracing the plump contour.

"Oh my god," Adrian whispered under his breath, his smile widening. "His lips are so soft." He tilted his head, a wicked little thought crossing his mind. "I should steal a kiss before he wakes up."

Slowly, Adrian leaned closer to Matteo’s face. He shifted his weight with absolute caution, barely breathing, trying his absolute best not to wake the sleeping man. But the very second his lips hovered a fraction of an inch away from his target, the trap snapped shut.

Matteo’s large hand suddenly shot up, clamping firmly around the back of Adrian’s neck. Before Adrian could even gasp in shock, Matteo crashed their lips together, stealing the kiss completely.

Adrian’s eyes widened in pure surprise at the sudden trap. Matteo didn’t give him room to think, pinning him down securely and deepening the kiss with a possessive, heavy hunger that immediately turned Adrian’s knees to jelly.

"Mmh... babe, stop," Adrian murmured weakly against his mouth, his hands pressing against Matteo’s chest. "That’s cheating..."

Matteo didn’t stop. He only let out a low chuckle into Adrian’s mouth, continuing to swirl his tongue deep inside, dominating the exchange until Adrian completely gave up his resistance. Melting into the mattress, Adrian wrapped his arms around Matteo’s neck and began kissing him back just as deeply.

When they finally pulled apart, both of them were breathless.

Matteo looked down at Adrian, his dark eyes sparkling with adoration. "Good morning, baby."

"Good morning, my love," Adrian pouted, his cheeks completely flushed.

Matteo smiled, his thumb caressing Adrian’s jawline. "Now, how exactly is that cheating, babe? You wanted to steal a kiss from me, but I was just faster than you. So tell me, how does that make me a cheater?"

Adrian rolled his eyes playfully, huffing. "Fine, you win."

Matteo’s gaze softened into pure devotion. He leaned down and pressed a soft kiss to the tip of Adrian’s nose. "But you win my heart."

Adrian’s heart gave a familiar flutter. He let out a soft, contented sigh before leaning forward to rest his head against Matteo’s broad chest.

They remained like that for a long, peaceful moment, wrapped in each other’s warmth, listening to the quiet rhythm of the morning.

Finally, Adrian broke the comfortable silence.

"Baby."

"Yes, Rian?" Matteo answered, his fingers lazily running through Adrian’s hair.

"I’ll have to leave soon," Adrian murmured reluctantly. "Maya should be getting ready by now, and I need to be there with her. As her brother, I have to be there early."

"I completely understand," Matteo replied, pressing a gentle kiss to the top of Adrian’s head. "I’ll have my men escort you to the venue safely. Then I’ll join you there later."

"Alright, babe," Adrian said.

Matteo pulled him even closer, hugging him tightly against his frame as if trying to memorize his warmth before they parted.

"Baby..." Adrian murmured after a moment, tilting his head to look up at him.

"Hmm?"

"Can I ask you something?"

Matteo looked down at him with a small smile.

"Go ahead."

Adrian’s lips curved into a sweet, teasing smile, his eyes sparkling with mischief.

"If I were a woman... would you still love me? Or would you love me even more?"

Matteo immediately rolled his eyes, a dramatic groan escaping his lips as he shook his head.

"Oh, here we go again..."

Adrian giggled, looking at him expectantly.

Matteo let out a helpless sigh before cupping Adrian’s face in both hands.

"Listen to me carefully, Rian," he said, his voice soft but unwavering. "If you were a woman, I’d still fall in love with you."

He smiled faintly.

"If you had been born a woman, I’d have loved you as a woman. If you had been born a man, I’d have loved you as a man. It was never about whether you were male or female."

His thumb brushed gently across Adrian’s cheek.

"I fell in love with your heart, your kindness, your stubbornness, your smile, the way you laugh, the way you care for people... I fell in love with you."

Matteo leaned forward until their foreheads touched.

"So no," he murmured with a smile. "I wouldn’t love you more if you were a woman."

His eyes locked onto Adrian’s.

"Because I already love you with everything I have. There isn’t any ’more’ left to give."

"Besides, I like you exactly the way you are... a little stubborn, ridiculously emotional, and currently resting on my chest asking me impossible questions at six in the morning."

Adrian fell silent, carefully taking in Matteo’s answer. After a long moment, his brows drew together as another thought crossed his mind.

"But... does that mean you’d actually love me if I were a woman?" he asked, looking genuinely puzzled. "Isn’t that technically cheating? The real me is a man, Matteo. Why would you accept a female version of me so easily?"

Matteo sighed, shaking his head with a fond smile. "I knew you were going to overthink this."

"Babe," he said patiently, "I love your soul. That’s what I fell in love with. Whether you were born a man or a woman wouldn’t change that. Your gender doesn’t define you. You’re still you... And you’re the only person my heart has ever wanted."

"But—" Adrian started, wanting to argue the logic further.

Matteo didn’t allow him to finish. He leaned forward and captured Adrian’s lips in a lingering kiss to shut him up. Pulling back just an inch, he murmured against his lips, "The wedding starts at ten. I should quickly order us some breakfast so you can eat and take your medicine before you leave."

Adrian smiled, the distraction working perfectly.

"That sounds nice. I should get up and take a shower then."

"Go ahead," Matteo said with a smile.

Adrian reluctantly eased himself off Matteo’s chest. He stole one last quick kiss from his cheek before climbing out of bed and heading toward the en-suite bathroom.

As soon as the bathroom door closed behind him, Matteo reached for the landline phone and placed an order for breakfast.

Ever since Maya’s bachelor and bachelorette celebration, he hadn’t returned to his estate. With the wedding venue only a short distance from the hotel, staying there had simply been the more practical choice than driving back and forth.

More importantly, Adrian was still recovering. After everything that had happened, Matteo refused to put him through any unnecessary strain. As long as Adrian was comfortable, getting enough rest, and close to the wedding venue, that was all that mattered to Matteo.

Inside the bathroom, Adrian took his time under the warm shower, letting the water soothe his aching muscles. Once he stepped out, however, he immediately shifted into high gear.

He didn’t bother changing into the custom suit he had planned to wear to the wedding because it wasn’t at the hotel.

Earlier, he had asked Leah to take it directly to the wedding venue, knowing he would change into it there instead. So, he slipped into a comfortable set of casual clothes, ate a light breakfast, and took his medication.

By the time he finished, the morning was slipping away. He gave Matteo one last tight hug, grabbed his essentials, and hurried downstairs, where the waiting car was ready to take him to the venue.

The drive to the wedding venue wasn’t long. Within minutes, the car rolled through the grand entrance and came to a gentle stop outside.

Adrian stepped out immediately, not wanting to waste another second. Spotting Leah waiting for him, he walked over, and she quickly led him to a private dressing room.

Working efficiently, Leah helped him into the custom suit Adrian had chosen for the wedding. She carefully styled his hair, straightened his jacket, adjusted his tie, and made a few final touches until she was satisfied that everything looked perfect.

"You’re all set," Leah said with a smile.

Adrian thanked her before leaving the dressing room and making his way through the corridors toward the bridal suite, where Maya was getting ready for the ceremony.

The moment Adrian stepped inside...
