Chapter 232: Chapter 232: The Mafia Boss in an Apron
"You’re all too scared. Honestly, I don’t understand why the boss is so obsessed with him. I hate the way he acts. He’s always pouting, always sulking whenever something doesn’t go his way. He’s a grown man. He should act like one."
Valery’s expression hardened immediately.
"If you want to die a fast death, keep telling people how much you hate Adrian," Valery warned, her voice dropping into a deadly serious whisper. "If a single word of your bitterness ever reaches the boss’s ears, consider your life over. I don’t know why you’re so miserable about someone else’s relationship."
Bella folded her arms.
"Don’t speak to me like that. You might be my senior, but I’m older than you. It’s my opinion, and I’m allowed to say what I can’t stand."
"Quiet. Your opinion doesn’t matter," Valery snapped, her voice dropping into a serious whisper. "The boss doesn’t tolerate anyone speaking badly about Sir Adrian."
She stepped closer, fixing Bella with a hard stare.
"And whether you understand it or not, Sir Adrian makes him happy. That’s all that matters."
Valery shook her head in disgust.
"I’m sure you’ve never experienced a love like theirs before. That’s why you’re so bitter. Seeing someone loved that deeply bothers you because it’s something you’ve never had."
"And if you don’t change that attitude, I’ll personally make sure the boss hears about this. Someone who hates his partner is the last person he wants around him."
The maids were about to continue arguing, but the sharp click of heels suddenly echoed down the hallway.
The moment they saw Selene walking back toward them, the entire group fell silent.
Everyone quickly straightened up, smoothed down their aprons, and pretended as though nothing had happened.
By then, Matteo and Adrian were already finished in the kitchen. Matteo had personally carried the plates into the grand dining room, proudly serving Adrian a beautifully arranged breakfast of scrambled eggs, golden brioche toast, and sliced avocado.
Before sitting down, Adrian quickly pulled out his phone and snapped a picture of the meal. With a grin, he opened his chat with Frank and Charles and sent it immediately, adding the caption:
Breakfast made with love by my man. ❤️
Matteo watched him curiously, clearly trying to figure out what he was doing.
Noticing the look, Adrian simply smiled at him.
Only then did Adrian take his seat. Matteo sat down beside him and kept his gaze on the breakfast, waiting anxiously for Adrian’s reaction.
"Taste it first," Matteo said, his voice low and serious. His hands tightened slightly in his lap.
Adrian smiled brightly. "Alright, baby."
Before Adrian could even lift his fork, Matteo reached out, gently catching his wrist. "Listen... if the food is completely terrible, just say it. Do not force yourself to eat it just to make me happy. Your health is way more important than my pride."
Adrian reached over with his free hand, placing it comfortingly over Matteo’s broad knuckles. "Matteo, you need to have faith in yourself and be confident, just like you always are in everything else. I know you’re worried, but look at it, it looks beautiful and it smells amazing. Just let me take a bite first, okay?"
Matteo slowly released his wrist and let out a tight breath.
"Alright, love."
Adrian picked up his fork and carefully took a bite of the scrambled eggs. He pulled back and chewed slowly.
Matteo watched him like a hawk, his entire body tense as he searched for any sign of disappointment on Adrian’s face.
Noticing the anxious look in Matteo’s eyes, Adrian’s lips curved into a warm, radiant smile. He turned fully toward him.
"Baby..." he said softly. "This is delicious!"
Matteo’s eyes narrowed slightly in suspicion.
"Are you sure?"
"Yes, babe!" Adrian replied immediately. "You should taste it and see for yourself."
He nudged Matteo’s shoulder playfully. "And don’t forget, I was your teacher, so this could never truly go wrong."
Trusting his partner’s words, Matteo picked up his fork and took a generous bite of the eggs.
The moment he started chewing, his expression changed. A strong wave of salt hit his tongue, completely overpowering the rest of the flavors.
His face immediately fell. After forcing himself to swallow, he grabbed a napkin and turned to Adrian in disbelief.
"Babe... how are you eating this?" he asked, horrified. "The salt is overwhelming. It’s terrible."
Adrian let out a soft laugh, entirely unbothered. "Don’t be so dramatic, it’s just a little extra salt."
He took another bite without hesitation. "Next time you prepare this, you’ll just be a bit more careful with the shaker."
"Alright, absolutely not. Stop eating it right now," Matteo said, reaching over to pull Adrian’s plate away. "I’ll have Selene and the chefs prepare a proper breakfast for us."
Adrian immediately grabbed the plate before it could disappear.
"No!"
Matteo stared at him.
"No?"
"No," Adrian repeated stubbornly, protecting the plate with both hands. "You made this for me, so I’m eating it. If you don’t want your portion, that’s fine. But I’m eating mine. I believe in this food."
"Adrian, it’s ruined," Matteo said in disbelief.
Adrian’s expression softened.
"I believe in you, Matteo."
His voice was quiet but unwavering.
"I know for a fact that you would never give me something that could hurt me."
He glanced down at the plate before looking back at him.
"And besides, no chef in this world could put as much love into this breakfast as you did."
Adrian leaned closer, setting his fork down for a moment.
"You just don’t know how to balance the flavors yet, and that’s completely okay," he said gently. "Nobody gets everything right on their first try."
He smiled softly. "You already promised me in the shower that you’d learn more recipes, remember? So why are you acting like one mistake means you should give up?"
Reaching over, he squeezed Matteo’s hand.
"Let’s just eat this. Later this afternoon, we can let Selene make us something else, okay?"
Matteo looked at Adrian, completely stunned by the depth of love and unwavering faith shining in his eyes. His chest tightened with emotion.
Before he could stop himself, he leaned across the space between their chairs, cupped the back of Adrian’s neck, and pulled him into a deep kiss.
Adrian immediately kissed him back, his arms wrapping around Matteo’s shoulders. When they finally pulled apart, both of them were smiling.
"Just pretend I was the one who cooked it for you, and let’s enjoy our morning," Adrian said with a playful wink.
His gaze dropped to the plate.
"Besides, everything looks perfect anyway..." He grinned. "Except for the salt."
A genuine smile finally broke across Matteo’s face. He leaned back in his chair, his chest filling with an overwhelming sense of joy as he watched Adrian happily eat the over-salted breakfast with absolute delight.
Inspired by his partner’s dedication, Matteo picked up his own fork and began to eat as well, the salty taste completely overshadowed by the sweetness of the man beside him.
Once they finished every last bite on their plates, they both stood up from the table, wrapped their arms around each other’s waists, and headed back upstairs to start their day.
When they stepped back into the bedroom, Matteo turned to Adrian. "Babe."
Adrian turned around as he was already walking toward the closet. "Yes, love?"
"Do you have any important work that requires your presence at the studio today?" Matteo asked, leaning against the doorframe.
Adrian thought about it for a moment before shaking his head.
"Not really, no. Why?"
"Since we’re traveling tomorrow, don’t you think it would be better if we stayed home today and properly prepared for the trip?"
A bright smile broke across Adrian’s face.
"That actually sounds like a great idea. I’ll call Kate right now and let her know I won’t be coming in."
"Alright, babe," Matteo said, glancing at his watch. "I have a few security matters and business calls to handle, so I’m going to head downstairs for a bit, okay?"
Adrian nodded. "Alright."
Matteo walked over, cupped Adrian’s chin, and pressed a deep, lingering kiss to his lips.
Pulling back with a soft smile, he turned and left the room, his footsteps fading quietly down the hallway.
As he headed down the grand staircase, Matteo pulled his phone from his pocket and noticed a string of messages from Mark.
Amused, he unlocked the screen and opened the chat.
Mark: So, I just heard a rumor that a certain mafia boss cleared out his entire culinary staff to make breakfast for his partner. Just wanted to confirm if the world is ending.
Matteo’s lips twitched.
As he continued down the hallway, he typed back.
Matteo: News travels fast. And yes, what you heard is entirely true.
The three dots appeared almost instantly.
Mark: Poor Adrian. The food must have tasted absolutely horrible. Please tell me you had a medical team on standby.
Matteo let out a scoff, his fingers already moving across the keyboard.
Matteo: Jokes on you. The food tasted amazing, and my baby loved every single bite.
Before the message could even be marked as read, Matteo’s phone began vibrating violently in his hand as Mark initiated a FaceTime call.
Matteo answered immediately.
