Chapter 231: Chapter 231: If You Want to Die a Fast Death

Matteo gently rubbed his thumb across Adrian’s hand.

"Tony called me this morning."

Adrian’s expression immediately turned attentive.

"What happened?"

"Kevin is ready to apologize to you," Matteo said, the warm water cascading over their shoulders as he kept his arms looped loosely around Adrian’s waist. "Tony wanted to know how I wanted to handle it."

He paused for a moment, letting the steam rise around them before continuing in a softer, more reassuring tone.

"I told him I wasn’t going to make that decision for you. The apology is meant for you, so I wanted to hear your opinion first."

Adrian’s relaxed posture instantly stiffened at the mention of the name. He looked up, his fingers gripping Matteo’s wet forearms as his expression grew cold.

"You seriously don’t have to seek my opinion on this, Matteo. Whether he’s dead or alive, I don’t care."

He swallowed hard, his eyes locking onto his boyfriend’s.

"I just don’t want to see his face anywhere near me. In fact, I don’t even want him to know where we are."

Matteo rubbed his thumbs soothingly against Adrian’s hips, understanding the lingering trauma.

"I understand, Adrian. But Mark insists the apology should be done properly. He wants Kevin to apologize to you in person."

"Well, I don’t want to see him," Adrian replied flatly, a stubborn edge masking the sudden spike of anxiety in his chest. "Maybe he can do a video apology instead. But I don’t want him coming anywhere near this estate, and I definitely don’t want to see him in person."

Matteo studied Adrian for a moment and immediately understood. Adrian wasn’t being stubborn, he simply didn’t want to face someone who had caused him so much pain.

Deciding to protect his partner’s peace of mind, he nodded. "Alright. I’ll tell Tony to have him record an apology video instead."

A wave of visible relief washed over Adrian’s face, his shoulders finally dropping. "Thank you. That’s perfect."

Seeing that Adrian had relaxed, Matteo decided to change the subject and steer his thoughts away from Kevin. He pulled him a little closer beneath the warm spray of water, a faint smile tugging at his lips.

"Let’s focus on our bath for now," he said. "So tell me, teacher, what exactly are we making for breakfast?"

Adrian’s eyes lit up again, the playful brat instantly returning. "We are going to make a very simple breakfast. Since it’s your first time, I have to start you off with something easy."

He poked Matteo’s damp chest like a strict instructor.

"You really need to learn how to cook, baby. Nothing would make me happier than waking up and eating something you made for me."

His expression softened. "And honestly, I wouldn’t even care if it tasted terrible. I’d still eat every single bite because you made it for me."

Matteo chuckled, his hands moving up to rest securely on Adrian’s shoulders. "Alright. If I manage to make this morning’s breakfast without burning the kitchen down, then I promise I’ll learn more recipes."

"Seriously, cooking for the first time doesn’t have to be perfect," Adrian encouraged, leaning up to peck Matteo’s wet chin. "You just have to keep trying, okay? That’s how you get better."

Matteo’s chest swelled with affection as he looked down at him. "Alright, love."

With the tension between them finally gone, they finished rinsing off and stepped out of the shower. After drying themselves and changing into fresh outfits, they headed downstairs together, making a beeline for the kitchen.

As soon as they stepped into the main hallway, Selene stepped forward and bowed politely.

"Good morning, Boss. Good morning, Sir Adrian. Breakfast is fully prepared and ready to be served. Today, the kitchen has made—"

"Stop, it’s okay," Adrian interrupted immediately, raising a hand.

He glanced at Matteo before smiling proudly.

"Today, my baby is cooking."

"Take it all away," Matteo said calmly, his deep voice leaving no room for argument.

Selene blinked in surprise, stopping mid-sentence.

Beside him, Adrian tightened his hold on Matteo’s arm, a pleased smile already forming on his face.

Matteo’s gaze shifted to the kitchen staff gathered nearby.

"Everyone is to leave the kitchen immediately," he ordered. "Clear the entire area and stay out until I say otherwise."

The staff exchanged confused glances but quickly nodded. "Yes, Boss."

Their boss had never stepped into the kitchen to cook before, let alone ordered an entire team of professional chefs to leave.

But everyone knew Matteo never repeated an order.

They quickly composed themselves and moved to obey.

Selene bowed low. "Understood, Boss." She quickly gestured to the remaining junior staff, and they all filed out of the kitchen in an orderly, silent rush, leaving the two lovers completely alone.

Matteo walked into the space with Adrian guiding him.

The mansion’s kitchen was enormous, looking more like a professional culinary studio than a family kitchen. Sleek marble countertops stretched across the room, while high-end stainless steel appliances gleamed beneath the lights.

Rows of spotless copper cookware hung overhead, and a spacious walk-in pantry occupied an entire section of the room.

Matteo stood in the middle of the gleaming kitchen, looking completely out of his depth. The mafia boss who could dismantle a weapon in seconds stared at the stoves, entirely unsure of what his first move should be.

He slowly turned his head to look at Adrian.

"What exactly do I need to do first?"

Adrian giggled softly and walked over to a hook near the pantry.

"First of all, you need an apron."

He pulled down a dark apron and stepped closer to tie it securely around Matteo’s waist. Once he was done, he playfully patted his stomach.

For the next hour, Adrian completely shed his usual stubborn, childish persona. He became patient and attentive, taking his role as Matteo’s teacher surprisingly seriously.

He genuinely wanted Matteo to learn, making sure not to overwhelm him or discourage him from ever stepping foot in the kitchen again.

"We’re going to make simple scrambled eggs with toasted brioche and seasoned avocado," Adrian explained as he laid out the ingredients.

He handed Matteo a bowl and a carton of eggs.

"Cracking the eggs is easy. Just give them a sharp tap on the edge, then press your thumbs in. Try it."

Matteo frowned, hitting the egg a little too hard against the edge of the bowl. Tiny pieces of shell immediately fell into the yolk.

His jaw tightened.

"I ruined it."

"Hey, no, you didn’t," Adrian said quickly, his voice warm and encouraging.

He picked up a larger piece of eggshell and used it to scoop out the smaller fragments.

"See? Problem solved."

Adrian smiled up at him.

"You did great for your first try. Now grab the whisk and move your wrist in a circle, like this."

As they continued, Adrian praised every success no matter how small.

"Look at that!" he exclaimed when Matteo toasted the brioche to a perfect golden brown. "That’s exactly what we’re looking for, baby."

And whenever Matteo got something wrong, Adrian never criticized him.

Instead, he stepped in and guided him, gently placing his hand over Matteo’s larger one to adjust the heat or correct the seasoning.

Meanwhile, in the servants’ quarters, Selene suddenly clutched her stomach, her face paling.

"I have a terrible stomach cramp," she groaned to the junior staff. "I need to use the restroom immediately. Keep an eye on the halls. I’ll be right back."

Without waiting for a response, she hurried off toward the nearest restroom.

The moment Selene disappeared around the corner, the junior staff relaxed and immediately gathered together in hushed whispers. They were still reeling from the shock of seeing their intimidating boss standing in front of a stove.

"I still can’t believe it," one of the junior maids whispered, shaking her head. "The boss cleared out the entire kitchen just so he could cook for Sir Adrian? He would literally do anything for him."

Bella, one of the newer staff members, crossed her arms and scoffed.

"Well, if you ask me, I don’t like Sir Adrian at all," she said, her expression twisting with disapproval. "He’s always bossing the master around and demanding things. I honestly can’t stand him."

Valery, a senior maid who had worked for Matteo since his previous estate, immediately shot Bella a sharp warning look.

"Keep your opinions to yourself, Bella. I like Sir Adrian, and honestly, I don’t care if he bosses the master around. Ever since Sir Adrian came into his life, the boss has changed for the better. He’s calmer. He’s happier. Anyone with eyes can see that."

Bella rolled her eyes.

"Well, I still don’t like him," she grumbled stubbornly. "He does way too much. A grown man acting like a spoiled, dramatic child every single day? I can’t stand it. Gosh, I hate it."

The rest of the maids quickly chimed in, shaking their heads at Bella’s bitterness.

"We don’t hate him," one of them said. "Sir Adrian is actually very sweet to us, and the boss loves him fiercely. Besides, it doesn’t matter what we think. They’re completely in love."

Bella rolled her eyes again.

"That’s because none of you are willing to tell the truth," she argued. "You’re all too scared. Honestly, I don’t understand why the boss is so obsessed with him. I hate the way he acts. He’s always pouting, always sulking whenever something doesn’t go his way. He’s a grown man. He should act like one."

Valery’s expression hardened immediately.

"If you want to die a fast death..."
