Chapter 240: Chapter 240 - Break In
Later that day, Theo stood in front of a massive pile of food, water, and survival gear with a satisfied expression.
’I can’t fit much more inside the spatial ring,’ he thought, nodding slowly.
One corner had been dedicated to Feng’s Wind Cores. Another held various items and equipment.
The rest was stacked with enough food and water to last the group for several months.
With one final glance, Theo withdrew his consciousness from inside the ring.
Theo slowly opened his eyes before letting out a long breath.
’That should be more than enough,’ he thought.
Now there was only one thing left — and that was to leave.
Glancing at the clock, he noticed it was already getting pretty late.
’’One more round of training,’’ he muttered, stretching his arms over his head. ’’Then I’ll catch up on the sleep I missed last night.’’
Quickly making his way to his backyard, Theo tossed aside his jacket.
As he reached the center of the arena, he closed his eyes and let a deep breath escape his mouth.
Lightning mana slowly began crackling around his body.
It spread up from his legs, illuminating his veins with a bright yellow glow.
Only a second later, his hair began standing up, lightning branching between each strand.
Finally, his eyes snapped open.
Bright light shone from them, completely hiding his pupils.
His senses immediately heightened.
Every leaf drifting through the air became perfectly clear.
Even the crackling lightning around his body seemed to slow down significantly.
Theo wasn’t bothered by these changes, though.
’Divine Thunder God’s Body,’ he thought, clenching his fist. ’It’s finally at the level where I can comfortably use it.’
Without another thought, he lightly punched the air in front of him.
CRACKLE!
Lightning sparked out like a wave with insane force behind it.
A small grin appeared on Theo’s face as he lowered his body.
Then, he kicked off with all his might.
WHOOSH!
His body vanished from where he’d stood in an instant.
A second later, he reappeared twenty yards away.
Behind him, only a scorched path remained.
’’Good,’’ he said, rapidly nodding. ’’Much faster than the normal Lightning Step.’’
With the flick of his fingers, the lightning dissipated from his body.
It almost felt as though he were returning to a slower reality as the effects of the spell faded.
A heavy headache appeared instantly, forcing Theo to hold his head in pain.
’That’s the only problem,’ he thought, heading inside. ’The spell boosts every part of my body, including my senses. But when it all wears off...’
It made him feel like someone had stuffed cotton into his ears before slamming a hammer against his head.
Letting out a deep sigh, Theo began massaging his temples as he went back up to his room.
The moment Theo pushed open his bedroom door, his footsteps came to an abrupt halt.
His eyes narrowed, staring at the wide-open window.
Then his gaze lowered slightly.
A deep red envelope neatly rested in the center of his desk.
’Shit,’ he thought, summoning Feng in an instant.
The little unicorn popped out on a green cloud beside him right away.
’’Contractor,’’ he said, his tone serious. ’’He’s on the building outside.’’
Theo’s expression shifted.
Following Feng’s gaze, he dashed to the open window.
Once there, he slid to a halt, his eyes narrowed.
’’He’s up high,’’ Feng said, pointing upward. ’’There.’’
Theo’s eyes snapped up, locking onto a building far in the distance.
There, a familiar figure stood on the rooftop, waving excitedly.
Only a moment later, the man stepped backward and disappeared into the shadows.
Theo’s expression darkened.
’’Can you still sense him?’’ he asked quietly, lightning sparkling around his feet.
Feng kept staring into the distance.
Finally, he shook his head lightly.
’’No,’’ he replied. ’’He’s long left my sensing range.’’
Silence fell between the two for a moment.
Theo bit down on his lip before slamming the window shut.
Only a few seconds later, mana inscriptions lit up throughout the room, forming a solid barrier.
’He wanted me to see him,’ he thought, irritated.
That much was obvious.
’But why?’
Theo’s gaze fell on the red envelope on his desk.
Without another word, he picked it up and unfolded it.
As he began reading, a deep frown appeared on his face.
’’Dance, dance, for our night of blood is drawing near.’’
’’Run as far as you’d like. It doesn’t matter, for I take planes too.’’
It seemed more like a theatrical composition than a threat.
Even so, Theo couldn’t help but feel a heavy pressure.
That’s when his eyes landed on the final line.
’’I’ll see you in Jordan, my prey. It will be our final dance.’’
Theo gritted his teeth and crumpled the envelope into a ball.
Lightning flickered from his palm, instantly disintegrating it.
’I’m so fucking stupid,’ he thought, glancing back at his desk.
There, his computer screen was still on, with multiple articles on Jordan and Petra open.
Theo let out a frustrated sigh before pinching the bridge of his nose.
’’What am I going to do with this?’’ he muttered. ’’Now that maniac is going to be chasing us there too.’’
In fact, it seemed like the maniac was planning to end their fight there.
Normally, Theo would’ve been completely fine with that.
But his friends were coming along. Not to mention, there’d already be enough danger inside Petra as it was.
The Calamity Covenant was not something he wanted to add on.
’’How did you not sense him when he entered the room?’’ Theo asked, glancing back at Feng.
The little unicorn drifted through the air, only coming to a stop in front of him.
’’I was inside your summoning space,’’ it said lightly. ’’To track a shadow user, I need to be outside at the very least, since they leave no wind behind.’’
Theo remained silent for a moment.
He hadn’t thought about that before.
’’Whatever,’’ he muttered, shaking his head. ’’Let’s just hope everything goes well tomorrow.’’
