Chapter 231: Chapter 231 - Calamity Covenant
Theo’s head snapped up from the envelope, a shiver running down his spine.
’It’s him,’ he thought, eyes darting through the room.
There was only one person whom he’d ever heard say ’Dance for the Blood God’.
And that was the Calamity Covenant member who’d fought him and overpowered him during the escape from Santa Barbara.
’That maniac...’ he thought, clenching his jaw. ’Seems like he’s coming after me again.’
No matter where he looked, he couldn’t find the man who’d placed the envelope in his hands.
Also, he couldn’t understand why he’d even done that.
’Is it that much of a thrill for him?’ he thought, brows furrowing.
Theo quietly folded the envelope before stuffing it into his pocket.
By the time he looked back up, the tension had already disappeared from his face.
Or at least... he hoped it had.
Just then, Jim turned around after accepting his purchases.
’’Theo?’’ he asked. ’’You alright?’’
Iris also looked over, immediately noticing the forced smile on his face.
’’Did something happen?’’ she asked softly.
Theo shook his head without hesitation.
’’Nothing,’’ he replied calmly. ’’I just remembered something I still have to take care of later.’’
Jim raised an eyebrow.
’’Is it a ghost? Because you look like you’ve seen one.’’
Theo let out a small, forced chuckle.
’’Maybe it was,’’ he said, shrugging lightly.
Jim blinked once, then burst out laughing.
’’Well, whatever ghost it was, leave it behind,’’ he said, slinging one of the boxes under his arm. ’’Today was supposed to be a good day.’’
Theo smiled faintly.
’’You’re right.’’
Iris looked at him for another second before quietly nodding.
’’Let’s head back then,’’ she said.
The three walked out of the auction house together.
Warm sunlight greeted them as luxury vehicles continued arriving one after another.
Hunters in black suits stood stationed around the entrance, their sharp gazes sweeping over every guest entering and leaving.
Theo’s own eyes quietly followed them.
’Not even they noticed...’ he thought.
A part of him wished to warn the Horizon Auction staff regarding the Calamity Covenant infiltration.
But who would believe him with no proof? And what if a Covenant member overheard him and took him out on the spot?
Theo silently clenched his fists inside his pocket.
’I need to grow even stronger,’ he thought. ’Strength is the only thing that can keep me safe and make people listen.’
Especially now that the crazy maniac with at least a Golden Core was coming after him.
Just then, Jim’s family car slowly pulled up in front of the entrance.
The chauffeur immediately stepped out before respectfully opening the rear door.
’’Young master,’’ he said with a slight bow.
Jim nodded before turning back to Theo and Iris.
’’Well,’’ he said with a smile. ’’I guess this is where we split up for today.’’
Theo smiled faintly.
’’Thanks for bringing me along today.’’
’’Don’t mention it,’’ Jim replied. ’’Just give me a call if you need my help again.’’
Theo nodded once.
’’Will do,’’ he said, waving.
Jim waved one final time before climbing into the car.
Moments later, it quietly disappeared into the traffic.
Several seconds passed by in silence between Theo and Iris.
Then Iris looked up at him with a gentle smile.
’’Are you sure you don’t want me to drop you off?’’
Theo shook his head.
’’No, thank you,’’ he replied. ’’I still have a few things I want to take care of first.’’
It wasn’t entirely a lie.
He still wanted to visit the property Alia had left him, as he’d be moving into it soon.
But the real reason was much simpler.
’I really don’t want them to get involved with that psychopath.’
Iris nodded in understanding.
’’Then... be careful,’’ she said softly.
Theo’s smile widened slightly.
’’I always am.’’
After watching Iris get into her family’s car, Theo stood alone on the sidewalk for a few seconds.
Only after both luxury cars had disappeared into the distance did his smile gradually fade.
His hand slipped into his pocket, brushing against the envelope.
’Soon it’ll be my time, huh,’ he thought, exhaling deeply. ’We’ll just have to see about that.’
Theo took the Shadow Cloak out of its container and put it on right away.
As he felt its cold fabric settle over him, he sent a tiny bit of mana into the cloak.
Whoosh!
In nearly an instant, his body disappeared into the shadows.
’Really convenient,’ he thought, racing through the shadows at lightning speed.
It only took minutes before the auction house had completely disappeared behind him.
As he reappeared from the shadows, he felt quite a chunk of his mana had been drained.
’I’ll probably be able to use it for somewhere between half an hour and an hour,’ he thought, nodding slowly. ’Not bad at all.’
Satisfied with the cloak, Theo stepped out of the alleyway.
He walked down the streets like a completely normal person, heading straight for the address Alia had left him.
At the same time, he opened the connection to his summoning space.
’Feng,’ he asked seriously. ’Say someone gave me an object. Would you be able to track them?’
’’If they handled it personally, yes,’’ he replied. ’’But only if they are nearby. My current strength is far too limited.’’
Theo’s eyes narrowed slightly.
’Nearby?’
’’As I grow stronger, that range will increase,’’ Feng explained calmly. ’’One day, I will be able to trace mana carried by the wind across the entire planet.’’
Remaining silent for a moment, Theo finally nodded.
’That’s fine,’ he said internally.
A swirling mass appeared beside him right away.
Slowly, the tiny unicorn drifted out of it.
’’I need you to keep track of this,’’ Theo said quietly, pulling out the envelope.
The little unicorn drifted over right away, green mana appearing all around him.
’’Its owner is not nearby,’’ Feng said. ’’But I’ll save the mana and scent in case that changes.’’
Theo nodded once, shoving the envelope back into his pocket.
Without another word, the swirling mass appeared behind Feng again.
Only this time, he flew in willingly instead of getting sucked in.
Theo let out a deep breath, slapping his face once to keep himself focused.
’’Okay,’’ he muttered. ’’Time to see my new house.’’
He paused for a moment. ’’And after that... it’ll be time for another would you rather.’’
