Chapter 230: Chapter 230 - Hunted?!
Theo’s expression shifted slightly.
’Buy it?’ he asked internally, unsure whether he’d heard it correctly.
’’Trust me, Theo,’’ Feng said, its voice dead serious. ’’It’ll be more than worth whatever price you pay for it.’’
Theo didn’t doubt any further.
As the auctioneer started the bidding, he immediately raised his paddle.
’’Five million here at the front!’’ she called out brightly.
Both Iris and Jim turned to him, utterly confused once more.
But Theo paid them no mind.
’’Fifteen,’’ the auctioneer called out, pointing to the back of the room. ’’Twenty-five to the old gentleman there!’’
Theo’s paddle immediately shot up into the air.
’’Thirty at the front!’’ the auctioneer called out excitedly.
Several people scoffed loudly behind him, each shaking their head.
’Surely,’ he thought, clenching his paddle. ’I can get it with this!’
Just then, two more paddles rose into the air in the back of the room.
’’Thirty-five... forty million dollars!’’
Theo cursed internally. He’d originally wished to keep some money in case of mental protection equipment.
Even so, he still stuck his paddle into the air once more.
’’Forty-five!’’ the announcer called out dramatically.
A few seconds ticked by in complete silence.
Her gaze slowly swept through the hall, seeing no other paddles.
’’Going once,’’ she said, raising a finger. ’’Going twice...’’
’’Sold! To the young gentleman sitting in the front!’’
Theo let out a sigh of relief and sank back into his seat.
’You better not be wrong,’ he said internally. ’That thing cost me a fucking fortune!’
A soft chuckle rang out through his head.
’’Worry not,’’ Feng said proudly. ’’For that object is filled to the brim with fortune!’’
Theo paused for a moment, not quite sure if he’d heard it right.
’Filled with fortune?’ he questioned. ’What do you mean?’
The Kirin nodded its head inside the summoning space.
’’Us Kirins can sense fortune,’’ he said. ’’If an object is filled with fortune, it’s bound to be something incredible!’’
Falling silent for a moment, Theo couldn’t help but think about one thing.
’So all of this is based on fortune?’ he asked. ’And you don’t even know what that is either?’
’’Correct!’’
Theo’s expression darkened right away.
Many thoughts and curses ran through his mind.
So what if an object was blessed by fortune! If he couldn’t figure out what it was for ten years, it’d all be pointless!
’We’ll talk after this,’ he said internally.
With that, he cut off the connection to the summoning space.
As he sat there in silence, watching the next item come up, he couldn’t help but feel two burning stares from either side.
Glancing at Iris and Jim, he couldn’t help but rub his temples.
’’My instincts,’’ he said calmly. ’’They told me to buy this.’’
Jim couldn’t help but widen his eyes.
’’That’s a lot of money to throw away based on some instincts,’’ he muttered.
Theo’s expression darkened right away, not entirely happy either.
Counting all the money he had, only seventeen million remained from his initial one hundred and twenty million.
’I can’t even purchase anything else,’ he cursed, pushing himself up.
The rest of his money would go toward the basics, such as food and the maintenance of the properties he’d received.
Jim and Iris stood up behind him and followed him toward the exit.
As they left, another burst of applause rang out behind them, yet another treasure having been sold for a hefty sum.
Theo didn’t pay any attention to it.
His mind had completely shifted to his money situation.
’I might need to take on some more hunter requests,’ he thought bitterly. ’Just as a precaution.’
’’Well,’’ Jim’s voice suddenly rang out behind him. ’’I’d say that was a pretty successful day.’’
Snapping out of his thoughts, Theo glanced at both of them.
’’Absolutely,’’ Iris smiled, holding two spell manuals in her hand.
Theo also nodded, despite being unsatisfied with his last purchase.
’’Mhm,’’ Jim said, contemplating for a moment. ’’Do we all want to go here again in eighteen weeks?’’
’’My parents have already rented a VIP room for then.’’
’’I was already planning to go with my family,’’ Iris said, smiling. ’’But I’m sure they won’t miss me.’’
Theo glanced between the two for a moment.
’’Is there anything special?’’ he asked. ’’Why so specifically eighteen weeks?’’
Jim’s smile widened as he nodded faintly.
’’It’ll be the 1000th weekly Horizon Auction,’’ he answered diligently. ’’It’ll be one of the biggest events this year, with treasures a hundred times rarer than today.’’
Theo’s eyes widened, taken aback.
’’The thousandth?’’
’’Yup,’’ Jim immediately followed up. ’’It’s rumored that they’ve been preparing for this for years!’’
He paused, his voice lowering slightly.
’’Though we probably won’t do any actual bidding... I’m sure it’s a fun experience to be at.’’
Both Theo and Iris nodded right away.
’’Sure,’’ Theo said, smiling. ’’We’ll also invite Owen and Lyra then.’’
Jim nodded enthusiastically.
’’That’s the spirit,’’ he said, patting Theo’s shoulder.
With that, the three slowly made their way toward the main entrance of the auction house.
By the time they arrived, several attendants were already waiting for them.
’’Young masters, young miss,’’ one of them said respectfully with a bow. ’’Your purchases have all been prepared.’’
Several beautifully crafted boxes rested on a long marble counter.
’’As for the young master’s Wind Cores,’’ the attendant continued. ’’They shall be delivered to your address free of charge.’’
Theo thanked the attendant, then quickly checked each of the smaller boxes, just in case.
He paused for a moment on the gray stone, his hands clenching.
’You better be worth something,’ he thought, storing it away.
Just then, another employee rushed past him.
He was a young man pushing a cart loaded with auction goods.
As the two brushed shoulders, Theo suddenly felt the hairs on the back of his neck stand up.
’’Hihihi!’’
A faint but very familiar giggle entered his ears.
His instincts screamed at him, immediately making him jump back.
Yet... nothing happened.
Theo’s pupils narrowed slightly.
’What?’ he thought, confused.
The employee was nowhere to be seen anymore!
That’s when he lowered his gaze slightly.
Somehow... a small red envelope had appeared in his hand.
’I didn’t even feel it!’ he thought, a shiver rolling down his spine.
Quietly, he flipped it over.
Written across the front in crimson letters were only a few words.
’’Dance for the Blood God, my beautiful prey.’’
’’Soon... it shall be your time.’’
