Chapter 157: Chapter 157 - Inheritance

The final page seemed much different from the others.

Contrary to the relatively simple property transfers, this one was filled with complicated legal terms and authorization codes.

His head hurt just from looking at it!

Only after turning the paper around did he finally find a quick summary of everything.

’’Allocation Summary.

Beneficiary Theo Lane receives 10% of Alia Shepherd’s total wealth.

Only 25% of the total monetary wealth will be accessible at first. The remaining 75% will remain locked until the beneficiary reaches the Gold Core stage.

Accessible funds will be available through the received black card.’’

That’s when his eyes suddenly froze on the number displayed underneath it.

Theo stared at it silently for several long seconds.

Then blinked again.

’’...Fifty million dollars?’1

Even just mumbling it felt ridiculous.

Theo shook his head and glanced back at the paper immediately.

But nothing had changed.

Only then did he finally believe it.

He leaned back in his chair while gripping the paper tightly.

This amount of money could completely change someone’s life, even for a hunter like him.

And yet... it wasn’t even all of the money he could get.

Theo’s gaze slowly lowered toward the bottom of the page, where a slightly more detailed version revealed itself.

’’The remaining monetary assets are protected under a secondary release condition.

Recipient Theo Lane is required to reach the Gold Core stage in order to claim the remaining inheritance.

If the inheritor passes away before reaching the release condition, all remaining funds will be reassigned to the other beneficiaries.

Secondary release amount equals the sum of 150 million dollars.’’

Theo sucked in another deep breath.

’One hundred and fifty million...?’

He slowly lowered the paper again, his mind feeling slightly dizzy.

Just two months ago, he’d struggled to earn a few thousand dollars to get his family off the streets.

And now... he had access to fifty million dollars?

It sounded absurd to him!

’’What am I even goin—’’

He stopped himself, pressing his lips together.

’’Never mind.’’

Theo knew very clearly what he’d need the money for.

Not only was he a Silver Core now, he even had a third element which he desperately needed spells for.

And if there was one thing he knew about spells... then it was that they were going to cost him a shit ton of money.

Not to mention summoning a creature for himself and raising it later on...

He clenched his fist together and closed his eyes for a moment.

’Nearly all that money is going to be used up, huh,’ he thought bitterly.

Still...

A small smile slowly appeared on his face.

For the first time since awakening, he actually had the resources to properly grow stronger.

After several more seconds of silence, Theo finally gathered the papers together again.

Then, one by one, he neatly slid them back into the envelope.

The black card followed shortly after.

Finally, his gaze lingered on the delicate handwriting one last time.

"...Thanks," he muttered quietly.

Then he carefully folded the envelope shut again before placing both of them back inside his pocket.

Theo slowly pushed himself out of his seat.

Letting out one final breath, he turned around and made his way back to the main cabin.

The moment he stepped back inside, the familiar voices immediately entered his ears once more.

’’I’m telling you that’s cheating!’’ Owen complained loudly.

Lyra rolled her eyes while holding up the phone.

’’You literally agreed to the rules five minutes ago.’’

’’That was before I realized the rules were bullshit!’’

Theo couldn’t help but shake his head slightly at the sight.

’Is this even a relationship?’

Glancing over at Iris, he paused for a moment.

She’d long been looking at him, as if judging his mood.

Then a soft and warm smile appeared on her face as she patted the seat beside her.

Theo nodded once, a smile growing on his face.

’’Is everything alright?’’ she asked, concerned. ’’You didn’t seem so good.’’

’’It’s fine,’’ he said, sitting down next to her. ’’Just needed to process some things alone.’’

Iris raised an eyebrow but didn’t ask anything else.

Likewise, Theo simply leaned back in his chair, all noise gradually blurring together around him.

The atmosphere finally felt peaceful for him.

Even after everything that had happened recently.

Theo glanced down and slowly lifted the warm necklace for a moment.

Then a faint smile appeared on his face again.

’Pay it forward, huh...’

His gaze slowly drifted out the window.

Time slowly passed by after that.

The soft humming of the airplane engines echoed throughout the cabin while clouds endlessly drifted past outside the windows.

At some point, Theo even ended up falling half asleep completely by himself.

Only for a familiar loud voice to suddenly yank him back awake again.

’’WE’RE LANDING!’’ Owen shouted excitedly.

Theo’s entire body jerked slightly.

’This idiot...’

Meanwhile, Lyra immediately smacked Owen across the back of his head.

’’CAN YOU STOP SCREAMING FOR ONCE?!’’ she snapped. ’’OTHERS ARE SLEEPING!’’

Owen rubbed the back of his head dramatically.

’’I was just excited,’’ he muttered, sulking. ’’You all haven’t seen New York before after all.’’

Seeing his best friend reduced to such a state, Theo couldn’t help but chuckle.

’Serves you right.’

That’s when his gaze drifted out the window, instantly locking onto the buildings below.

Even from this far away, he could very clearly see the massive colosseum-like arena.

’Westridge,’ he thought, narrowing his eyes. ’How much time do I have for the competition again?’

From what he remembered, there wasn’t supposed to be much time left.

But, to be fair, his schedule had kind of been thrown off by the beast tide and the unconsciousness.

After a moment of silence, he just shook his head.

’I’ll have to ask Elise later.’

The airplane slowly descended lower and lower before finally touching down onto the runway with a heavy vibration.

Rumble!

The moment the wheels hit the ground, Owen let out a relieved sigh.

’’It’s so good to be back!’’ he said, stretching his body loudly. ’’Nothing to worry about here.’’

Theo couldn’t help but shake his head while a small smile appeared on his face.

’’What are you laughing at?’’ Owen asked, shooting him an offended look.

’’Me?’’ Theo said, pointing at himself.

Then he continued with a smirk.

’’Hmm... you’ll figure that out later.’’
