Chapter 163: Chapter 162: Opening the Door to a New World of Male Competition
Bai Su had looked into Bi Yue’s background. She had been fiercely independent since childhood, having grown up in the military.
She had even been a Strategic Commander, but she was a complete novice when it came to romance.
It was no surprise, then, that she had been won over by Sai’er’s sweet-talking.
Bai Su spread out the file on Sai’er.
It detailed how Sai’er had wormed his way into the Lanton Family over the years, how many females he had flirted with in the research lab, and how many noble females he’d been involved with while attending banquets in the Lanton Family’s name.
There were not only pictures and documents, but also surveillance videos and even holographic projections.
The color drained from Bi Yue’s face as she watched.
The final video showed Sai’er chatting with a male crocodile in a bar.
Crocodile: "You haven’t handled it yet? Did you really get kicked out of the Lanton Family?"
A look of annoyance crossed Sai’er’s face. "I’m still working on it. Those females are completely useless. They can’t get to Bai Su at all."
The crocodile paused, stunned. "Miss Ali, Miss Yue, and Miss Yu Yu... none of them could do it?"
Sai’er scoffed. "Ali’s father has no real influence inside the Lanton Family. Yu Yu went to the restaurant to find Bai Su a few times but never got a chance to befriend her, let alone plead my case."
The crocodile waited a moment. When Sai’er didn’t say anything, he asked, confused, "But what about Miss Yue?"
Hearing her name, Bi Yue’s heart clenched. She unconsciously pressed her lips together and held her breath.
The annoyance on Sai’er’s face intensified. "That idiot? All she knows how to do is show up and cause a scene. I’m worried that fucking moron is going to drag me down with her."
The crocodile heard this and couldn’t help but roar with laughter.
Amid the laughter, the color drained from Bi Yue’s face, bit by bit.
’Even my last glimmer of hope is about to vanish. Why doesn’t anyone like me?’
Bai Su turned off the video and looked at Bi Yue. "Need I say more?"
Bi Yue hung her head, her face burning with humiliation.
’No wonder Ali and Yu Yu were always around him back then.’
’She’d even caught Sai’er drinking with them several times.’
’Every time she confronted him, Sai’er would say impatiently, "They’re just friends." "Why are you being so sensitive all of a sudden?" "If that’s what you’re going to think, there’s nothing I can do." "If you were more interesting, I wouldn’t need to find other people to drink with." "All right, stop being angry. Do you really think you look good acting like a lunatic?"’
Bi Yue was so heartbroken she wanted to scream. Tears splashed onto the tabletop.
She tried to hide them, but the tears wouldn’t stop.
She didn’t even notice when her hands had been untied. She just sat there in silence, trying to hide her tears in an awkward posture.
’Crying in front of her enemy was worse than death.’
Bai Su pushed a box of tissues toward her. "Don’t hold it in. If you need to cry, just cry. The trash can is right there."
Bi Yue couldn’t hold back any longer. She let out a wail and started crying, pulling out a tissue to wipe her nose before tossing it into the trash.
Bai Su let out a soft sigh and shook her head. "He’s just a scumbag, isn’t he?"
Bi Yue was so angry she wanted to throw the balled-up tissue at her, but when she met Bai Su’s calm gaze, she broke down crying again. "You don’t understand anything! Sai’er... he’s different! He’s my salvation..."
The corner of Bai Su’s mouth twitched. ’Salvation? Seriously? This is just a classic case of...’
’...someone with too little dating experience latching onto a total dud and thinking they’ve found a priceless treasure.’
’How is he any different?’
’The man you think is a pearl wouldn’t even compare to a broken seashell if you tossed him on a beach.’
’If she just got out and saw more of the world, she’d realize the man she’s so obsessed with isn’t someone anyone else would even want.’
The corner of Bai Su’s mouth twitched again. ’Honestly, if the Bear Clan Tribe hadn’t always been so good to her—and if she didn’t owe Bi He a favor for bringing the tribe to help during her uterine transplant surgery—she couldn’t be bothered with this pitiful girl.’
Bai Su slid a bowl of noodles in front of her. "Tired from all that crying? Go on, eat. When you’re full, I’ll take you somewhere."
Bi Yue’s first instinct was to refuse, but the fragrant aroma of the noodles hit her, and her stomach couldn’t help but rumble loudly.
After getting out of the station, Bi Yue had a huge fight with her family.
She had no choice but to stick with Sai’er, and she hadn’t had a full meal in a long time.
Sai’er disdained her for eating too much and would glare at her during every meal.
The steamy aroma of scallions drifted relentlessly into her nostrils.
Bi Yue finally gave in, picking up her fork to eat the noodles.
The light noodles were more like springy, chewy rice vermicelli, with a wonderfully firm bite.
The cooked noodles had been rinsed in ice water before being placed in a prepared broth. The soup was a clear, dark brown, dotted with scallions, and held a soft-yolked egg nestled on top.
The broth was light, with the faint, savory fragrance of slow-cooked pork bones.
The soup also seemed to contain pepper and some kind of unknown aromatic oil.
A savory-sweet soy sauce harmonized all the flavors, which mingled together and coated the chewy noodles.
With every bite, a comforting warmth spread through her heart.
As Bi Yue ate, the gloom in her heart seemed to lessen.
Once her stomach was full, she no longer felt so conflicted and angry.
She drank every last drop of the soup, then let out an embarrassed burp right in front of Bai Su.
Bai Su asked, "Full?"
Bi Yue nodded meekly.
It’s hard to talk tough after accepting someone’s food.
She wanted to curse Bai Su out, but she wasn’t shameless enough to start screaming the moment she put down her bowl.
Bai Su said, "Come with me."
Bi Yue was suspicious. "Where are you taking me?"
But her body honestly followed along anyway.
Bai Su led her to Yan Qingya’s bar.
A VIP private room.
When a long line of exceptional, high-level males stood before them, Bi Yue was utterly dumbfounded.
Bai Su patted her on the shoulder. "Take your pick?"
Bi Yue’s face flushed beet-red. "Do you think I’m fickle like you? My heart belongs only to Sai’er..."
Bai Su gave a perfunctory nod and pushed Bi Yue toward the group of men.
The males, perceptive as they were, swarmed her, gently guiding Bi Yue to a nearby sofa.
"I heard your name is Bi Yue. Can I call you Yue’er? Your little bear ears are so cute!"
"Did you just go through a breakup? You poor little thing. Want to tell me about it?"
"How could any male bear to hurt someone as adorable as you?"
Bi Yue’s face flushed crimson. She had grown up in the military with her father.
The men in the army were all burly, straight-talking grunts. When had she ever been surrounded by males who spoke in such soft voices, their eyes crinkling with smiles, doting on her and treating her like a delicate flower?
She stammered awkwardly, "He... he didn’t hurt me, he just... just wanted to use me... and, um... h-h-he said I was stupid."
"And then he found other females to help him, and he was flirting with them..."
As Bi Yue spoke about it, she still looked wronged.
A handsome male Cat Beastman’s eyes widened in disbelief. "He actually called you stupid?"
"And he dared to cheat on you with multiple partners?"
"Females are the priceless treasures of our Federation, especially a high-level female like you!"
"He truly didn’t know how good he had it!"
"I bet he never liked you from the start. He just wanted to use you. He probably even badmouthed you to those other two females."
At these words, Bi Yue’s face grew even paler. "Really?"
A male beside her nodded with great gravity. "Of course it’s true. Think about it—you’re a female. If a male was pursuing you, would he be able to win you over instantly? It would definitely take time to get to know each other."
"Exactly. Those two other females didn’t just appear out of thin air."
"So he must have been cheating on you for a long time, using you as a stepping stone!"
"You poor little bear. What kind of blind fool would bully a cute female like you? It breaks my heart just to see it."
"Here, feel my pecs. See how fast my heart is beating? It’s because I’m so angry for you. My heart truly aches for you."
...
「The next morning.」
Bi Yue followed Bai Su out of the club. Her face was covered in lipstick marks and her neck in hickeys. She stared blankly at the rising sun, as if she were newly born.
