Chapter 191: Chapter 194: A Belated Slap in the Face

"Sandy, are you answering Daddy?" Even though she knew it was just a coincidence, Sonia Quincy couldn’t help but be thrilled.

She raised a hand and gently tapped Sandy’s nose, her eyes soft and her smile radiant.

The corners of Felix Preston’s lips lifted as he watched her, his gaze gentle, his eyes filled with an intense, unadulterated love.

The group teased and played with the little one for a while longer. Seeing it was getting late, Mrs. Preston took him from Sonia Quincy’s arms and moved to a corner of the hospital room to lull him to sleep.

Brianna Bell wanted to watch her grandson, so she followed them, helping Mrs. Preston soothe the baby.

"Bloom, your fans are really worried about you. Do you want to post a video to reassure them?" Mina Jennings asked, sitting by the hospital bed and looking at Sonia Quincy.

Sonia Quincy blinked in confusion. "Reassure them about what? Don’t they all know I’ve already had the baby?"

Julia Dawson said, "They do know you’ve had the baby, but as an influencer who just blew up, you have to ride this wave of popularity and personally let your fans know you’re okay!"

"Oh, I see..." Sonia Quincy frowned, looking as though she’d just been taught a valuable lesson.

Julia Dawson walked over to the hospital bed and sat down next to Mina Jennings. "Bloom, you’re a major influencer now with over six million fans. You have to take those six million fans seriously. They’re the key to whether you can make money or not."

Julia Dawson was a veteran influencer with over four years in the game. When it came to making money from social media, she had plenty of experience and her opinion carried weight.

Sonia Quincy listened intently. As soon as Julia was done, she immediately pulled out her phone and said dutifully, "Alright, come on, help me take a few pictures. I’ll post a video to reassure everyone now. And while I’m at it, I’ll turn down a certain company’s job offer."

"A job offer?" Felix Preston didn’t know about this and was a little taken aback. "Who sent you a job offer?"

Sonia Quincy gave a wicked grin. "That clueless Ethan Lockwood sent it. He didn’t know I’m Bloom Preston, so he had someone send a private message to my account’s DMs, asking if I’d consider joining the Lockwood Group as an official jewelry designer!"

"And how did you reply?" Felix Preston instantly sat up straighter, visibly tense.

Sonia Quincy said, "I told them I’d think about it. Then I just left them hanging. I still haven’t given them a definite answer."

"Oh..." Felix Preston nodded, instantly letting out a sigh of relief.

Mina Jennings said, "But Bloom Preston’s identity is out in the open now. Ethan Lockwood must know you’re her, so he probably wouldn’t dare hire you anymore."

"Hmph..." Sonia Quincy scoffed, curling her lip in disdain. "I don’t care if he’d dare to hire me. Either way, I’m going to publicly reject him today and give his already swollen face a few more hard slaps!"

"Do it!" Lynn Preston was all for it. "Sonia, I’m with you!"

"I’m with you, too!" Felix Preston chimed in.

"Alright, let’s start shooting." Sonia Quincy struck a pose and had Julia Dawson take a few flattering photos. Once they were done, she uploaded the pictures to her social media account, creating a new post.

She wrote the caption herself. It was in two parts.

—"The delivery went smoothly. The baby and I are both safe and sound. Thank you, everyone, for your concern."

—"And I just remembered there’s one more thing I needed to do, so I figured I might as well take care of it with this post."

Above the caption was a slideshow video she had made with four photos.

The first two photos were selfies of her flashing a peace sign, and the last two were her response to Ethan Lockwood.

The first of the response photos showed her holding up her phone while making a silly face. In the other, she was giving her phone the middle finger.

Sharp-eyed followers noticed something on her phone screen and zoomed in for a closer look.

And that’s when they saw it: the job offer from the Lockwood Group.

With the job offer exposed, one look at the middle finger in Sonia Quincy’s last photo was all it took for everyone online to understand exactly what she meant.

NotFeelingIt: [AHAHAHAHA! YES! THIS IS SO FUCKING SATISFYING! MORE SATISFYING THAN BINGE-EATING FIFTY BAGS OF SPICY KONJAC STRIPS!]

BloomPrestonsLegHair: [HOLY SHIT, THIS IS SO DRAMATIC! ETHAN LOCKWOOD ACTUALLY SENT A JOB OFFER TO HIS OWN EX-GIRLFRIEND!]

LetsPoopTogetherSometime: [AHAHAHA! SO SONIA QUINCY FORGOT TO RESPOND, AND THEN SUDDENLY REMEMBERED TODAY AND DECIDED TO MAKE A WHOLE POST JUST TO DRAG THAT SOCIAL-CLIMBING EX?]

ColdTossedToes: [HAS TO BE! THAT SOCIAL CLIMBER IS SO DISGUSTING, HOW COULD BLOOM PRESTON POSSIBLY LET HIM OFF EASY? IF SHE DIDN’T SLAP HIS ROTTEN FACE SWOLLEN, I’D THINK SHE HADN’T HAD HER DINNER!]

WhoDoYouThinkYouAre: [THAT MIDDLE FINGER IS ABSOLUTELY EPIC! IF I WERE THAT SOCIAL CLIMBER ETHAN LOCKWOOD, I WOULD LITERALLY DROP DEAD FROM ANGER RIGHT NOW!]

The comment section was buzzing, with tens of thousands of users creatively roasting Ethan Lockwood.

Sonia Quincy cackled as she read. Laughing by herself wasn’t enough, so she started reading the comments aloud, making everyone else in the hospital room laugh along with her.

"Oh my god, these people online are so clever! I could never think of stuff like this in a million years!"

Hannah Sutton was laughing so hard her entire face flushed red.

Lynn Preston leaned on her shoulder, weak with laughter. "If Ethan Lockwood is getting roasted this badly," she said, catching her breath, "I can only imagine it’s even worse for Cecilia Quincy."

"Hmph..." Sonia Quincy let out a scornful little laugh. ’She brought this on herself. No matter how bad it gets, she’s the one who has to live with it...’

BZZZ—

BZZZ—

The burner phone under her pillow suddenly began to vibrate. Cecilia Quincy flinched, her daze instantly broken.

BZZZ—

BZZZ—

The rhythmic buzzing continued from beneath the pillow. Cecilia Quincy turned her head stiffly, her gaze fixed on the pillow.

...

After several seconds of stunned silence, she reached out a trembling hand, pulled the burner phone from under the pillow, and stared at the glaring, unfamiliar number on the screen.

She’d never seen the number before, but she could guess who it belonged to. She also knew exactly why they were calling.

For the past few days, calls like this had been driving her to the brink of madness. Now, just the sound of a phone vibrating sent waves of uncontrollable panic and dread through her.

And yet, as if torturing herself, she answered the call.

"Hello, is this Miss Cecilia Quincy?"

A gentle woman’s voice came through the receiver.

...Cecilia Quincy didn’t dare to speak.

"Hello?" After a few seconds, the woman’s voice came again.

"Is this Miss Cecilia Quincy?"

"...Yes." Cecilia Quincy answered cautiously, her lips dry.

...

The other end of the line was quiet for a moment, then a fierce shout suddenly erupted.

"Cecilia Quincy, your mother’s dead!"

"You goddamn bitch, you have no fucking shame! First a whore, then a homewrecker, and now a villain! What are you, fucking schizophrenic?!"

"You’re so full of drama, why don’t you go join The Southern Opera Troupe and put on a show? You fucking bitch, I command you to go jump off a building right now!"
