Chapter 189: Chapter 192: Do You Believe in Transmigration?
Felix Preston sniffled, finally letting go of Sonia. He turned to look at little Wilder Preston, who was sleeping soundly in the bassinet.
"I wanted to check on him, but you’re my priority, so I didn’t look at him right away."
Sonia Quincy tilted her head, gazing intently at the little one in the bassinet, a tender look filling her eyes.
"Then go get a good look at him now. He looks just like you."
Felix Preston nodded, visibly a little nervous.
"Okay."
He used the hospital bed to support himself as he stood up, then tiptoed over to the bassinet and carefully sat down in the chair beside it.
The little rascal was sleeping soundly, his tiny eyes gently closed. His mouth twitched now and then as if he were eating something delicious in his dreams.
The corners of Felix Preston’s lips curved up. He felt his heart melt at the sight of Wilder Preston’s adorable, peaceful appearance.
"Wilder..." he whispered Wilder’s name, carefully reaching out to touch Wilder’s face with his finger.
A newborn’s skin was softer than tofu. Felix Preston only touched him once before pulling back, afraid he might somehow damage the fragile little thing.
"Isn’t he cute?" Sonia Quincy asked.
Felix Preston nodded, his voice unconsciously dropping to a whisper. "Very cute. And he looks a lot like you, too."
Sonia Quincy said, "He may be cute, but he’s still a little rascal who’s going to be a handful..."
Felix Preston looked up at her, his eyes full of adoration. "Let me handle the little rascal. Sonia, you just focus on resting."
"Hmph." Sonia Quincy raised an eyebrow, a playfully proud look on her face. "Giving birth to your son nearly killed me. If you don’t take care of him, who will?"
Felix Preston said, "You’ve been through so much, Sonia. We’re not having any more after this."
"Really?" Sonia Quincy was still a little skeptical.
Felix Preston let out an almost imperceptible sigh, the smile in his eyes instantly replaced by fear. "Childbirth is a life-or-death trial for a woman. When I heard your agonizing screams from outside the delivery room today, I made my decision right then and there."
"I won’t let you have any more. I don’t want you to go through that kind of pain and heart-stopping fear a second time. As long as you can be here safely by my side, I’ll be content."
Sonia Quincy asked, "But... didn’t you say you wanted a daughter?"
Felix Preston shook his head. "As long as it’s our child, I’ll love them whether they’re a boy or a girl."
"Oh..." Sonia Quincy pouted.
Felix Preston looked at her with a serious expression. "Sonia, I’m serious. We’re not having any more children. Having you and Wilder is enough to make my life complete."
"Okay." Sonia Quincy gave a faint smile.
Felix Preston, completely content, grinned and turned back to look at his son.
"Honey, should we give Wilder a nickname?"
"Sure." Sonia Quincy slowly straightened her legs and turned to lie on her side. "Do you have any ideas?"
"Hmm..." Felix Preston thought for a moment. "What do you think of the name ’Sandy’?"
"Sandy?" Sonia Quincy frowned slightly.
Felix Preston explained, "Yes, Sandy. Like a sandy shore—peaceful and calm. I hope his life will always be smooth and easy."
"I love it!" Sonia Quincy gave him a thumbs-up. "Let’s call him Sandy, then."
"Sandy..." Felix Preston began to murmur the nickname. "Sandy... do you know your name is Sandy?"
Sonia Quincy was exhausted. Although the doctor had told her to wait a little longer before sleeping, she couldn’t help but close her eyes to the sound of Felix Preston repeating "Sandy" over and over.
The day had been chaotic and intense, and this was the first moment of rest Sonia Quincy had gotten.
Felix Preston wanted her to sleep well, so while she slept, he didn’t let anyone else in to disturb them, sitting there and watching the baby by himself.
Regarding Sonia Quincy’s parentage, their two families had agreed not to tell her for the time being.
Sonia Quincy had just given birth and was extremely weak. It wasn’t a good time for her to experience any major emotional swings.
Although the Shaw Family was eager to officially welcome Sonia Quincy back, they decided to hold back for now, considering her physical condition. They would wait until after her postpartum confinement period to slowly break the news to her.
...
Sonia Quincy’s livestream had sent Aethelburg into an uproar. The names Ethan Lockwood and Cecilia Quincy had been trending on the hot search lists for a full day and night without coming down.
Many entertainment reporters, desperate to get more gossip, had rushed to the hospital where Sonia Quincy had given birth, carrying their cameras and blocking the hallway outside her room.
Felix Preston had no choice but to call Jasper Linden and ask him to find someone to drive the reporters away.
"Felix Preston?"
Just as he hung up, Renee Sinclair’s voice suddenly sounded from behind him.
He put away his phone, turned around, and frowned at Renee Sinclair, who was standing at the bottom of the steps.
Renee Sinclair was carrying several bags, and a nervous smile was on her clean, makeup-free face.
But Felix Preston didn’t immediately try to send her away as she had expected. Instead, he even gave her a slight smile.
"Are you here to see Sonia?"
"Yes..." Renee Sinclair replied in a low voice. "I came to see Sonia and bring her a few things. I had a nutritionist pick them out; they’re meant to help Sonia recover."
"Thank you," Felix Preston said mildly. Then he asked, "If you’re here to see Sonia, why are you taking the stairs?"
Renee Sinclair shrugged helplessly. "The elevators are full of reporters. I didn’t want to get swarmed the moment I showed up, so I had to take the stairs."
"I see." Felix Preston didn’t say much more. After hearing her explanation, he turned and headed straight up the stairs.
"Felix Preston!"
But Renee Sinclair suddenly called out to him again.
"Yes?" He turned back and asked softly, "Is there something else?"
Renee Sinclair said, "Felix Preston, I want to ask you a question."
"What question?" Felix Preston turned to face her.
She hesitated for a few seconds before speaking slowly. "Do you believe... that transmigrators exist in this world?"
"Transmigrators?" Felix Preston had heard the term before. "You mean, like the kind you see in TV shows?"
"Yes." Renee Sinclair’s gaze was firm. "Exactly that kind of transmigrator! For some reason, they are forced to travel from one world to another. Do you think it’s possible for a transmigrator like that to exist in this world?"
"I don’t know," Felix Preston said honestly. "The existence of transmigrators is too fantastical. I don’t know if they exist or not. But personally, I don’t believe in that kind of thing."
"...You don’t believe it?" The light in Renee Sinclair’s eyes instantly dimmed.
Felix Preston said, "I don’t believe in such ethereal things. I only care about the people and things right in front of me, the ones I can hold on to."
With that, he turned and left the stairwell, leaving Renee Sinclair standing there alone.
"Sigh..." Renee Sinclair sighed. ’If you don’t believe in transmigration, then Sonia will never be able to confess her secret to you.’
[Congratulations, Host. You have successfully earned eight favorability points. Your current favorability balance is negative thirty-two.]
A mechanical female voice suddenly rang out, and Renee Sinclair froze.
