Chapter 161: Chapter 164: Borrowing the East Wind for Free

"I..." Miranda Morgan froze for a moment, then denied it. "Cecilia Quincy? Cecilia Ford? What in the world are you talking about?"

Sonia Quincy stared at her, a smile that wasn’t quite a smile on her face. She already had her answer from that momentary pause.

’That’s right. Cecilia Quincy sent her.’

"Sister-in-law, why did you suddenly bring up Cecilia Quincy?" Evan Yates asked, confused.

’Why...’

Sonia Quincy narrowed her eyes, thinking to herself, ’Because Cecilia Quincy is the prime suspect, of course.’

’In this world, there are only three people whose interests are opposed to mine.’

’One is Cecilia Quincy, another is Ethan Lockwood, and the last one is Renee Sinclair.’

’But Renee Sinclair is my partner now. If she suddenly rounded up Miranda Morgan and her cronies to cause trouble for me, she’d gain nothing. All it would do is piss off Felix Preston and make him dislike her even more.’

’Renee Sinclair can barely protect herself right now; she wouldn’t be stupid enough to pull something like this for no reason.’

’As for Ethan Lockwood, I don’t think he’s a likely suspect either. He’s been acting strange lately and has started to see me in a different light.’

’He’s not a faithful man, but when his affections temporarily fixate on someone, he does his best to treat them well.’

’I may have only piqued his interest a little, but even with just that, I’m confident Ethan Lockwood wouldn’t intentionally hire people to humiliate me right now.’

’Since I can rule out both Ethan Lockwood and Renee Sinclair, the suspicion can only fall on Cecilia Quincy.’

Cecilia Quincy had always hated her. Not long ago, when she went to the hospital for a prenatal check-up, she’d gotten into an argument with Cecilia. On top of that, Renee Sinclair had discovered that the family who had caused a scene at their apartment last time was also hired by Cecilia Quincy. All this made her even more certain that this latest trouble was Cecilia’s handiwork as well.

"Heh." At that thought, Sonia Quincy couldn’t help but laugh out loud.

’Interesting. This is truly interesting.’

"What are you laughing at?" Seeing Sonia’s strange smile, Miranda Morgan felt a sudden loss of confidence.

Sonia Quincy looked up at her and said bluntly, "I’m laughing at you."

"Laughing at me? How dare you laugh at me?!" Miranda Morgan’s voice suddenly shot up as she tried to cover her guilt and panic with a shrill tone.

"You’re the one who should be laughing at yourself! A married woman, pregnant no less, still messing around behind your husband’s back!"

Sonia Quincy ignored her rant. "Miranda Morgan, you know better than anyone whether I’ve been ’messing around’ or if I owe these male models of yours any money."

Miranda Morgan held her head high, looking down her nose at Sonia. "Of course I know! If you didn’t owe my boys their money, why would I have brought them all the way here?"

"Exactly..."

The old ladies watching from the sidelines whispered in agreement:

"That line of work isn’t exactly respectable to begin with. For them to come here and demand money so brazenly, they must be really desperate."

"Good heavens, I’ve really seen it all today. A woman seven or eight months pregnant, owing money to so many gigolos! Tsk, tsk, tsk... That poor man from the Preston family..."

"How disgusting. To think I live in the same building as a woman like that..."

Sonia Quincy wasn’t deaf. She heard every last one of the nasty comments, but she didn’t really care.

Her eyes remained fixed on Miranda Morgan, the mockery in them growing more intense.

"Miranda Morgan, we both know what the truth is. If you only came here today to make a scene and ruin my reputation, then congratulations, you’ve succeeded. You can leave now."

"Leave?" Miranda Morgan’s eyes widened in astonishment. "I haven’t gotten my money yet! Why should I leave?"

Sonia Quincy replied, "If you won’t leave, I will. I don’t have time to stand here and play along with your charade."

True to her word, she turned to leave.

"Sonia Quincy!" Miranda Morgan instinctively took a couple of steps to follow but was blocked by Evan Yates and Jasper Linden.

The two tall men stood before her like a wall, completely blocking her view of even Sonia Quincy’s back.

She could only shout at the top of her lungs, "Sonia Quincy, pay your debt! Why are you running away?! You owe us money!"

Sonia Quincy turned back, a brilliant smile on her face. "When did I ever owe you money? If anything, you’re the one who was desperately passing my contact info to all sorts of questionable men for a referral fee. I haven’t even asked you for my cut yet."

"I..." Miranda Morgan was rendered speechless, the words stuck in her throat.

Sonia Quincy couldn’t be bothered to argue with her anymore and left her with a parting shot. "If you’re not tired of it, feel free to stay here and keep whining. Goodbye."

"You... Sonia Quincy!" Blocked at the building’s entrance, Miranda Morgan could only watch helplessly as Sonia walked away.

"Get out of here with your boy toys!"

Evan Yates cursed at Miranda Morgan with a look of utter disgust, then headed upstairs with Jasper Linden and the rest of their guys.

"Sonia!"

The moment the door opened, Felix Preston rushed over from the balcony.

He was leaning on a crutch, yet he still managed to pull Sonia Quincy securely into his arms.

"Are you okay? Is it all resolved?"

Sonia Quincy shook her head, indicating both that she was fine and that the matter wasn’t resolved.

"They came prepared. Their goal isn’t to get money; they just want to ruin my reputation and destroy my family."

"In their dreams!" Felix Preston gripped her hand tightly, his own palm slick with a cold sweat from worry.

"As long as you still want this home, and you still want me, nothing can tear our family apart."

"Mm-hm." Sonia smiled and nodded, helping Felix sit down on the sofa.

There were still a dozen or so people standing outside, and Sonia Quincy invited them all in.

"Please, everyone, find a place to sit. Thank you all so much for today."

"No need to be so formal!"

One of the studio employees waved a hand casually and said cheerfully, "You and the boss are both great people. We’re your employees; of course we’re going to help out when you’re in trouble. It’s the least we could do."

"Yeah!" another employee chimed in jokingly. "Besides, we were getting tired of work. This was the perfect excuse to slack off a bit."

"HAHAHAHAHA!"

His joke made everyone else burst out laughing.

Sonia said, "Regardless, I have to thank you all for today. When I get a chance, I’ll treat you all to a meal. Everyone here has to come, no exceptions."

"No problem!"

The group replied in unison.

Miranda Morgan and her "boys" still hadn’t left; Felix Preston could still hear them chattering noisily outside.

He gently cupped Sonia’s cheek, his gaze soft as he looked down at her. "Sonia, how do you plan on handling this?"

Sonia answered honestly, "I don’t."

"...Hmm?" Felix didn’t understand what she meant.

Sonia didn’t explain, only saying mysteriously, "It’s a favorable wind, delivered right to my door for free. It’d be a waste not to use it."
