Chapter 370: Chapter 370: Gu Jinghua’s Mind

Gu Jiaojiao was gratified to see that her disabled yet resolute grandnephew was so well-mannered.

"Ziquan, you’ve been through a morning of check-ups. You must be tired. We should take you home for lunch first."

"I’m not tired. Aunt-Grandmother, if you’re coming to my place for lunch, we’ll head back to the compound first. If not, then we should take you home. I hear your husband is a great cook. Are you worried I’m trying to freeload a meal?"

"That’s not it. I just don’t know if Shu Ci has gone home to cook."

’Gu Jiaojiao really missed her cell phone from her past life right now. It would be so much more convenient with a phone. If you wanted to know something, you just had to make a call.’

"So you don’t know if your husband is home either? In that case, why don’t you come to our place for lunch?"

"You’ve already had your acupuncture for today. I’ll check my schedule tomorrow and give you a call."

Gu Jiaojiao then went over some pre-surgery instructions, her voice soft and patient.

They chatted the whole way, and before they knew it, they arrived at the entrance of Gu Jiaojiao’s villa. Just as their car came to a stop, Fu Junyuan ran over.

"Sister-in-law, you’re back! Su just finished making lunch."

"Shu Ci has already finished cooking. Mu Ziquan, why don’t you get out and eat with us before you go?" Gu Jiaojiao asked politely as she stepped out of the car.

"Thank you, Aunt-Grandmother, but they’ve already cooked at my house too. It would be a waste, so I’d better go home to eat."

"Alright then, take care on the road. Drive safely." Gu Jiaojiao watched as Mu Ziquan’s car left the courtyard.

Fu Junyuan and Geng Haoyi stayed at the Su family’s home for lunch, as they had important things to do that afternoon.

During the meal, Geng Haoyi remembered what his grandfather had said and spoke up. "Sister-in-law, I think my grandfather has something important to discuss with you."

"Then after we eat, give him a call. I’ll ask Mr. Geng what it’s about."

When the call went through, Mr. Geng wasn’t home. It was Geng Haoyi’s father who answered.

"Jiaojiao, what did I do to deserve a call from you?"

"Uncle Geng, I’m so sorry. I’ve been busy ever since I came to the Imperial City. I’ll have to invite you, my father, and the others over for dinner sometime soon."

There was no need for formalities between Geng Ruixian and Gu Jiaojiao. After a few pleasantries, he launched into a detailed account of Gu Jinghua’s thoughts and plans, since he knew him very well.

Gu Jiaojiao could hear the apology in Geng Ruixian’s tone, but she told him she didn’t mind at all.

She said she didn’t care where Eldest Brother Gu wanted to work, and also mentioned that Mr. Sheng had already applied for a transfer from Qing City to a remote town in Wushi.

Geng Ruixian felt a little better after hearing Gu Jiaojiao’s words. After all, he was the one who had asked his father to help arrange Gu Jinghua’s job transfer.

He was good friends with Mr. Gu, so Geng Ruixian felt it was his duty to help his friend’s son find a job.

He never dreamed that the boy, Gu Jinghua, would be so much trouble!

"Jiaojiao, well, Uncle Geng is going to hang up now. Call me more often when you have time, okay?"

"Goodbye, Uncle Geng. I’ll call next time to invite you to dinner."

Gu Jiaojiao hung up and sat by the phone, trying to catch her breath. It would be a lie to say she wasn’t angry.

"Honey, don’t be angry. Is you being angry going to stop Gu Jinghua from wanting to go back to Qing City?"

Su Shuochi had been sitting nearby and heard everything clearly. Geng Haoyi and Fu Junyuan had finished eating and gone to wash the dishes.

"You’re right. Why should I be angry at him? Gu Jinghua going back to Qing City won’t stir up any big waves. A few small splashes won’t have any effect on us."

Gu Jiaojiao quickly came to terms with it. She knew the situation with the Sheng Family in Qing City like the back of her hand.

Sheng Shiwu also frequently came to the Su family home to freeload meals now. He was diligent and a sweet-talker, so Su’s mother was very fond of him.

So, when Gu Jiaojiao called home after dinner, Sheng Shiwu would also grab the phone to say a few words.

Gu Jiaojiao learned from Sheng Shiwu that Mr. Sheng himself had requested a transfer to a remote military unit in Wushi.

The eldest Sheng brother said that after he retired from the military, he would transfer his household registration to the Imperial City.

Mrs. Sheng was still in Yun City, under the watch of the Ren family, so Sheng Yueyue didn’t dare to go looking for her.

The second Sheng son was still at home recovering from his injuries. The third son, Sheng Shiwu, was starting school, so they hired a housekeeper to cook for him.

People in poor health tend to have terrible tempers, and Sheng Yueyue rarely returned to her parents’ home anyway.

"Su Shuochi, if you guys have things to do this afternoon, go ahead. I’m going to stay home and make some medicine pills."

"Are you really not angry anymore?" Su Shuochi asked, still unconvinced.

"I wasn’t really angry, just disappointed that he can’t live up to his potential. When Gu Jinghua goes back to Qing City, he’ll definitely help Sheng Yueyue, which is bound to cause trouble for the Gu Family."

"Grandfather and Father-in-law are both rational men. We know that from how they handled Second Uncle Gu’s family. At worst, they’ll just disown him."

"You’re right. He’s so far away that if Gu Jinghua gets into any trouble, my dad won’t be able to help him even if he wanted to."

Seeing that his wife was genuinely not bothered anymore, Su Shuochi left with Geng Haoyi and Fu Junyuan to get back to work.

’But he’d already made a mental note against Gu Jinghua. How dare he make his wife unhappy? He planned to find some time to call Xi Guodong’s father.’

And so, Eldest Brother Gu’s career path was no longer so smooth. It was only a tiny bit better than that of a low-level clerk.

If Gu Jinghua ever found out that the person he was racking his brains to build a successful career for, the person he wanted to support, Sheng Yueyue, had ultimately become his own stumbling block, who knows if he would feel any regret.

But he would never find out. He would only ever think that his own lack of ability was why he could never achieve anything great, and he would regret it for the rest of his life.

After Su Shuochi and the others left, Gu Jiaojiao made a call back to the Su family home.

’She felt that for Gu Jinghua to be so desperate to return to Qing City, he must have heard something about Sheng Yueyue.’

Sure enough, Gu Jiaojiao learned from Su Qinchun that because Mr. Sheng had left Qing City and the Ren family was no longer associating with Sheng Yueyue, Uncle Song had been tormenting Sheng Yueyue at home every day. Su Qinchun sounded animated on the other end of the line. The things she knew weren’t common knowledge in the compound.

It was because Song Qianqian was studying at a university in Qing City. She was very grateful to Gu Jiaojiao for inviting the Divine Doctor who had saved her older brother and second older sister.

Her older brother was now full of life, and her grandfather valued him greatly. Her second older sister was also pregnant.

Her parents were very happy, and she was even happier. Whenever she was in a good mood, she would find Su Qinchun to gossip about the happenings in her uncle’s house.

Seeing how much Su Qinchun loved to hear it, she spoke with even more relish.

"Sister-in-law, I heard from Song Qianqian that her uncle even made Sheng Yueyue kneel before him and admit her mistakes! When her aunt saw her uncle’s attitude, she started treating Sheng Yueyue even worse."

Gu Jiaojiao could just imagine it—Aunt Song’s arrogant demeanor, and Song Zijin wasn’t a good person either.

She hung up the phone in a rather good mood, wondering if Sheng Yueyue, far away in Qing City, had any regrets.

Regret? Of course Sheng Yueyue didn’t feel any regret. She just felt indignant and hated Gu Jiaojiao even more.

’She had gone to such great lengths back then to take Gu Jiaojiao’s place and marry Song Zijin. Was it all just so she could kneel and repent before Father and Mother Song?!’
