Chapter 458: Chapter 488: Fighting a Goose

It was hard to tell if the big goose understood, but it flapped its wings and ran all over the yard.

The big German shepherd nearby even barked its support.

Xiao Shi and Xiao Cheng squatted on little stools, cheering for Shen Yi.

Shen Yi was in a bind.

Tonight, one way or another, only one of them—him or the goose—would be left standing!

In the end, Shen Yi finally managed to defend his dignity and claim victory. He still got bitten twice by the goose, but luckily his clothes were thick enough that his skin wasn’t broken.

Back inside, Qin Jiao checked him over. She breathed a sigh of relief when she saw the skin on his elbow wasn’t broken, but then she doubled over with laughter.

"Shen Yi, oh Shen Yi, how did I not know you were so childish?"

Getting into a fight with a goose, of all things. Are you aging in reverse?

Shen Yi looked up and saw Qin Jiao’s radiant smile, her eyes dancing with amusement. A sudden impulse struck him, and he pounced, pushing her down.

Without another word, he kissed her. "That’ll teach you to laugh at me!"

Their relationship had been growing stronger recently, so Shen Yi was getting bolder.

Normally, he would, at most, sneak a quick kiss—a touch-and-go so fast she’d barely register it.

But this time was different. They could faintly hear Qin Zhonghui and Mr. Du outside, talking about how the weather was too cold and they needed to move the flowers indoors.

Meanwhile, the two of them were locked in a passionate kiss.

It wasn’t that Qin Jiao didn’t want him to kiss her, but she was worried her father and Grandpa Du might see them. She tried to push him away, but he wouldn’t budge, dead set on getting his revenge for her teasing.

After who knows how long, Shen Yi finally stopped, though he clearly hadn’t had enough. He wanted to do more, but he was genuinely afraid of getting a beating.

Seeing his smug look, like a cat that got the cream, Qin Jiao gave him a sharp kick without hesitation. Shen Yi dodged it quickly and said with a wronged expression, "Honey, you can’t kick there. Otherwise, you’ll have to get a new husband."

"Then I’ll get a new one! Who’s afraid of you!"

"I am," Shen Yi said, sidling up to her ingratiatingly. He squeezed Qin Jiao’s hand. "Jiao Jiao, I was wrong. Please forgive me."

’This guy was nothing if not adaptable,’ she thought. ’He was always quick to mess up, but even quicker to apologize. Then, once forgiven, he’d do it all over again. She really had no idea when he’d gotten so shameless.’

Qin Jiao kicked him off the bed. "Go out and help my dad and Grandpa Du move the flowers!"

"Alright." Shen Yi walked out with some regret, rubbing the spot where she’d kicked him. ’Suddenly, he was starting to regret having Jiao Jiao learn Taekwondo.’

’Because she was using it all on him...’

With so many hands to help, the New Year’s preparations went quickly. In the blink of an eye, it was New Year’s Eve. The sound of firecrackers began to ring out early in the morning.

Shen Yi had been a real handful last night; Qin Jiao had almost been tempted to kick him into another dimension. She shoved him. "Get your arm off me. You’re crushing me."

Shen Yi just pulled her closer into his embrace. "It’s not even light out yet, Jiao Jiao. Let’s sleep a little longer."

"No way. There’s too much to do today. I have to go help my mom and the others."

’It was the New Year, after all, and there was so much to do. They still had to put up the couplets and the ’fu’ characters for good fortune. With so many windows and doors in the courtyard house, it was a big job. That kind of manual labor was, of course, a job for Shen Yi.’

Realizing he couldn’t keep hugging his wife, Shen Yi scrambled out of bed as well. After they both washed up, they went their separate ways to start their chores.

Qin Zhonghui and Sun Jianhua were already outside hanging couplets. Shen Yi immediately ran over and took on all the tasks that required climbing.
