Chapter 457: Chapter 487: Iron Pot Stewed Goose
"You’re so good to me. You and Xiao Lan are the best people in the world to me..."
Sun Li paused, a glass of water in one hand. She placed her other hand on her husband’s back and patted it gently. "You silly goose," she said softly. "We’re family. Of course we’re good to you."
"Mmm."
Seeing her parents hugging, Qin Xiaolan tiptoed back into the living room. She picked up the phone and whispered, "Hey, I think I might be getting a little brother or sister."
Qin Jiao laughed. "Why do you say that?"
"Well, my mom and dad have been getting so lovey-dovey lately. Ugh, I feel like a total third wheel whenever I’m around them."
Qin Jiao chuckled for a moment before hanging up. She turned and told her parents that Uncle Zhonghui had already delivered the money and other items.
Su Yun asked, "Didn’t your uncle stay for dinner at the family home?"
Qin Jiao shook her head. "No. And according to Xiao Lan, he looked pretty upset when he got back. He probably got into an argument there."
Su Yun glanced over at her husband, who was in the yard prepping some pig’s feet. She lowered her voice and said, "The old man must be angry that we didn’t go back."
"But Mom," Qin Jiao said, "even if we had gone, he wouldn’t have welcomed us. It would just make him furious, and we’d be miserable. So what’s the point? It’s better this way. It also saves Dad from being caught in the middle."
Su Yun nodded. It was a tangled mess with no clear solution, so this was the only way.
In comparison, Su Yun felt that her own side of the family was so much less trouble.
As for the Qins, the items had been delivered and the money had been sent. If they still wanted to gossip and find fault, there was nothing to be done.
And as for what anyone else might say, that was even less worth worrying about.
If you spent your whole life worrying about what other people think, wouldn’t you just get worn to death?
The preparations for the New Year’s feast this year were especially lavish. As usual, Qin Zhonghui and Su Yun were the head chefs; the two of them were by far the best cooks in the entire extended family.
Qin Jiao knew how to cook as well, but her dishes were always missing that certain something compared to what her parents made.
Her aunt, Qin Na, was also lending a hand. She looked up and smiled. "Xiao Jiao, you’re already so accomplished. You know how to do so many things that we don’t. If your cooking was perfect too, wouldn’t that just be intimidating?"
"I don’t really have any special talents." Qin Jiao gave it some serious thought. ’I really don’t have any.’
’Most of what I can do is just because I was reborn and had a head start.’
Su Yun, who was in the middle of frying vegetable fritters, chimed in, "My Xiao Jiao is the prettiest, the smartest, and the best!"
Qin Jiao blushed at her mother’s praise.
Outside, Shen Yi was crouching, frowning at a large goose in front of him.
The families of the clothing factory workers raised chickens, ducks, and geese in an empty lot behind the factory. The factory cafeteria would usually buy some of them for its meals. But since it was the New Year, one of the families had specially picked out their two fattest chickens, one goose, and a huge pile of chicken and goose eggs to send over as a gift.
The chickens were manageable, but this goose was especially fierce. It had the nerve to try and take on the family’s big German Shepherd the moment it arrived.
When Qin Jiao stepped outside, she saw Shen Yi in a standoff with the big gander and couldn’t help but laugh. "Be careful, Shen Yi!" she called out, covering her mouth. "Geese are surprisingly strong. Most people are no match for them."
There was no way Shen Yi was going to look weak in front of Jiao Jiao, especially not when his rival was a goose. Without even turning his head, he declared, "Don’t you worry, Jiao Jiao! I guarantee you’ll be eating iron-pot braised goose tonight!"
"Alright!"
