Cell phones weren’t widespread yet, but the old brick phones were already being phased out. Some people had started using PHS phones, which felt more convenient than the bricks and were certainly an improvement over pagers.
But Shen Yi and Qin Jiao had both used smartphones before, so this all still felt rather inconvenient.
They had to find a phone booth to make a call, but luckily, there was one nearby.
Shen Yi’s eyes immediately lit up. "Good, I’ll go make the call right now."
When Li Xiaomei and Ji Yuehong heard this, they panicked. Li Xiaomei was actually a bit intimidated by Qin Jiao and was also afraid of Shen Yi, so she just stomped her feet in frustration, not daring to stop anyone.
Ji Yuehong, on the other hand, was meeting Qin Jiao for the first time today. She’d only heard from Li Xiaomei that this girl was aggressive and sharp-tongued. "What is wrong with you, girl? Are you just trying to stir up trouble? Why would you call a tow truck? We all know each other here. Have you no sense?"
Qin Jiao smiled. "And who might you be, old woman? I’m quite sure we’re not acquainted."
Ji Yuehong was so incensed by being called an ’old woman’ that she glared. "Who are you calling an old woman! I’m not even fifty yet!"
The reason Ji Yuehong reacted so strongly was because her prematurely aged appearance had always been a sore spot for her.
Even though her family was well-off and she could afford all sorts of high-end skincare products, for some reason her face was still plagued by wrinkles, age spots, and a naturally matronly look.
’If I hadn’t been a university student back in my day,’ she thought, ’I probably wouldn’t be living this well now.’
One moment, Li Xiaomei was worried that Shen Yi had really gone to call a tow truck. The next, she saw her cousin explode in anger after just a few words from Qin Jiao.
She quickly held Ji Yuehong back. "Cousin, don’t stoop to her level."
After saying this, Li Xiaomei turned to Qin Jiao, her eyes cold. "No matter what, Shen Yi and Ah Feng are brothers. What do you think you’re doing, fanning the flames between them like this?"
"How am I fanning the flames?"
"You’re trying to have Ah Feng’s car towed! Aren’t you just trying to cause a fight between Shen Yi and him?"
Qin Jiao laughed. "Aunt Li, have you forgotten who the real culprit is here? You’re the one who started this conflict between them, aren’t you? We’re in a hurry to leave, you refuse to clear the way, and you won’t get someone to move the car. Our only option is to ask the traffic authorities to help us move it. Is there a problem with that?"
"You!"
Li Xiaomei had long known she was no match for this girl in an argument. Meanwhile, Ji Yuehong had been thoroughly provoked. "What?"
