Chapter 365: Chapter 365: Utterly Absurd
"Yes, I know what to do."
While Shen Yi and Du Liya were discussing matters, Qin Jiao heard a noise outside and got up to see who had returned.
Because things were so busy at the new eatery, Qin Zhonghui and Sun Jianhua had moved in there for the time being. But during the day, it wasn’t just the two of them; even Su Yun and Qin Na had to be there helping out.
The ones returning now were Su Yun and Qin Na. It wasn’t convenient or particularly safe for the two of them to live at the business premises.
Qin Jiao immediately went up to them and took the things from her mom’s hands. Su Yun asked, "Have your aunt and the others left?"
"Yes. They’ve probably covered half the distance by now. They’ll definitely be home before noon tomorrow. Xiao Lan even said she’s determined to get into a university here in North City."
Su Yun nodded and sighed. "Your aunt... she has her faults, but she’s a decent person with a good head on her shoulders. Your uncle mentioned the marriage exchange for your third uncle last time he was here. I reckon your uncle will take it to heart and try to help, but if he gets involved, your aunt will definitely not be happy about it."
Beside them, Qin Na added, "I have no idea what they’re thinking. It was the right move for Third Uncle to divorce Feng Lan—she’s not a good person—but why on earth did they come up with a marriage exchange?"
None of them could figure out who in the family could possibly be part of such an exchange.
Qin Jiao said coolly, "The reason is simple, of course. No one is willing to marry our third uncle."
A man so lazy he wouldn’t even bother to right a toppled soy sauce bottle, not to mention Grandpa and Grandma have no money to speak of. All that’s left is that big house. On top of that, Third Uncle has a son and isn’t young anymore. Under circumstances like these, how could finding him a match possibly be easy!
Unless they also found him someone who’s been married before.
But even though Mr. Qin’s side of the family wasn’t well-off, their standards were incredibly high.
In truth, Qin Jiao couldn’t imagine how they intended to arrange this marriage exchange. She never expected that she would find out how just one day later.
The call was from her aunt, Sun Li, who had only just arrived back home.
Sun Li said to Su Yun over the phone, "Xiao Yun, you have no idea what those people back home are thinking. They were actually planning on using Xiao Jiao in a marriage exchange for the third brother! It’s a damn good thing your Xiao Jiao is married. Otherwise, their scheming would be enough to make you sick to your stomach!"
When Su Yun heard this, she was so furious her hands began to tremble.
"Sister-in-law, what exactly happened? Tell me everything!"
"Well, I just got home, and your older brother told me. He said the family back home had arranged a marriage exchange for Third Uncle. They had already settled things with a family in the same village, surnamed Geng. That family has a twenty-nine-year-old daughter and a twenty-eight-year-old son, neither of them married. The siblings are both apparently very picky. So, Mr. Qin got a matchmaker to go to their house and say that our family has a university student they could offer in an exchange. And the Geng family actually agreed."
"I immediately made your brother go and tell everyone back home that Xiao Jiao is already married to a wealthy local from North City. But now the Geng family is raising hell and refuses to let it go, because Third Uncle already slept with their daughter!" Sun Li was so angry just recounting the story that her chest ached.
On her end of the line, Su Yun was so enraged she was at a loss for words.
"Fine. Just fine. Even after all this, they’re still scheming against my family! I’m telling you right now: come holidays, come festivals, I’m taking my two kids, and we are never setting foot in the Old Qin Family’s home again!"
’So if our Xiao Jiao hadn’t married Xiao Yi, they would have just sold my daughter off like that?’
’And as for him sleeping with that girl, he can damn well fix his own mess!’
Qin Jiao stood by, listening, her eyes turning to ice. She knew from her past life that her grandparents and her third uncle had no shame. It was just one foolish, shameless act after another.
’But she’d never imagined they could be this absurd!’
